Any of you out there lucky enough to have a bottle of the stunning Tempus Alba Cabernet Sauvignon 2013?

What a gorgeous wine. It has aged so well. We could write some lyrical prose on the velvety tannins etc but you’ll know that’s the case if you have ever tasted any of the rested Tempus Alba reds

Always the best wines. Top tips from us, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is even better and some of our clients have been buying this to lay down

Can’t wait or don’t have the space? Try the 2018 Tempranillo, Malbec or Syrah reservas. They are at the top of their game

This week we donated to World Land Trust’s “Buy an Acre” program, of which David Attenborough is a patron

One of our business priorities, aside from supplying the best Argentinian wine to the lucky people of the UK, is to reduce our carbon footprint as far as possible

And so, as we have been doing for the last 3 years, this week we sent a portion of our sales revenue to World Land Trust

No need to compromise 🌎

This Green Farming Malbec from Lagarde is completely organic with no oak ageing. So just pure top quality grapes from a vineyard first planted in 1906 in Mayor Drummond, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza

Bodega Lagarde have worked incredibly hard to attain their B Corporation certification and this superb organic wine shows the fruits of their labours

Dark bright and intense violet in colour, lovely aromas of ripe red fruits with notes of violet flowers and fresh herb. On the palate it is balanced and subtle with friendly tannins, which gives very good volume and a sense of roundness in the mouth

Lagarde shows us how superior wines can be made with the very best production ethics

For the very first time

Added to our 🇬🇧 website, only yesterday, a new single vineyard 2020 Cabernet Franc from Uco Valley based Vin Vineyards

A delicious smooth as silk stunner

Long finish, a little lighter in texture than some, dry but also smooth. Raspberry, black cheery and green peppercorn flints coming through harmoniously on the taste buds

This single vineyard is a crowd pleaser for sure and was a firm favorite at the Ruta40 blind test taste

What an Argentinian wine success story

To quote Jancis Robinson “the best Cabernet Francs combine Argentine ripeness with the sort of beautifully haunting fragrance I’m always seeking”

If you have not had the chance to try Argentine Cabernet Francs yet can we suggest you add this to your wine exploration for 2024. They are simply too good to miss

And this beauty, Barrandica 2021 from Antucura was a firm favorite with our wine tasters this weekend

Grown in prime vineyard plots, located 1,050m above sea level in the Uco Valley, the limestone soil, warm summers and low annual rainfall make for excellent growing conditions

This smooth and delicious wine with silky ripe tannins has no oak ageing to ensure that all the fruit flavours shine through

And no surprise this bottle was awarded 92 points by James Suckling. Well deserved

Well, no prizes for answering the last question unfortunately

But to somewhat answer the first, if that’s even possible, here’s a picture of one of our pre Xmas “morning afters” to show you what we are drinking right now

The night predictably kicked off with delicious Champagne and starters paired well with the Torrontes

Then we blind tasted the Margaux vs Antacura’s Blend selection with our guests. The results were split down the middle. 3 thought the Margaux was the most expensive wine, while another 3 friends thought it was the Antucura. Again no prizes for guessing which is 3 times the price of the other

All the wines were personal favourites and the port was incredible 🤩

And the next night we did it all over again with wines from Tempus Alba tough job!

Argentina’s blends…are you a fan?

This gorgeous Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot mix, almost in equal measures (a little more Syrah) was a huge hit at Oxford Wine Festival recently and it’s one of our personal favourites. It’s beautifully made, a very competitive price and delightful to drink

The Blend de Tintas 2021 is from Lagarde’s Lujan de Cuyo vineyards in the heart of Mendoza. Only half of this blend has been aged for 8 months in French oak barrels so it retains a lighter touch
A bluish red colour, with notes of spices, red fruits, to***co and smoke. Lovely and elegant in the mouth with smooth tannins, excellent structure and long smooth finish

Lagarde are B Corporation certified and this wine is vegan suitable

Excellent credentials and a wine tasters favourite 🍷

Lujan de Cuyo’s finest Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon encased in Tempus Alba’s beautifully styled new bottles

Reflecting their relationships with nature

The Rosado (Rosé), 100% Malbec, is a lively pink colour with a nose of cherry, raspberry and strawberry balanced with acidity that keeps it refreshing

It’s been selling pretty well this summer which has surprised us as rosé consumption is supposed to be down in the UK this year. Can’t think why!

Not some wild mid Atlantic Island growing lavender surrounded by steak eating sharks 🐮 🦈

Much more accessible and delicious than that 🍷

This classy Bordeaux style blend from Casa Antucura takes gaulois wine making flare to new levels

Anne-Caroline Biancheri, the French vineyard owner, uses her best quality Vista Flores grapes to produce a delicious blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon

A deep ruby red colour with medium to soft tannins and acidity. The taste explores red fruits with hints of spice and vanilla leading to a long lush finish

This wine is great to drink now but also ages so well. If you can restrain yourself, try opening one a year until until 2028 to see how the tannins mellow and flavours converge

💯% Petit Verdot

And a big hit at our recent blind tasting

Rarely a single varietal, Petit Verdot is often a component in some of the world’s top blends. However innovative Accuro have broken the mould and made an exceptional single grape wine

🍇 sourced from Maipu, Mendoza, handpicked early April, fermented in concrete vessels for 10 days and allowed to age in concrete. This is another masterpiece from master winemaker Alejandro Cánovas

Garnet red in colour with aromas of red fruits and herbal notes. In the mouth it is lighter than Malbec but has great structure and volume with smooth tannins. Dark fruit flavours, slight earthy bottom notes, an excellent freshness and long finish

We love this with slightly spicy food, gamier meats and or sausages. Would also work with vegan chili

Incredible value for money too at £16

The result is in! 🇦🇷v🇫🇷

🏆Argentina came out on top in a thrilling night of wine tasting at the .bs stadium. France fought hard but it was the high quality and outstanding value Argentinian team that won through

Wines were tasted blind to ensure fair play and fortunately there was no VAR controversy

The opening white wine competition was evenly matched. Argentina’s Lagarde Teia Torrontes showed heady aromas and pace but was equalled by Domaine Landron Muscadet Nouveau. The room was evenly split and ended in a draw. A goal-less start

Next Accuro’s Petit Verdot 2019 went head-to-head with Plaimont Cotes de Gascogne Manseng Noir 2019 billed as ‘a battle of the unusual’. 100% Petit Verdot of this quality is rare. Manseng Noir an ancient French grape being revived in South West France. Our Petit Verdot edged it to open scoring, 1-0 🇦🇷

Half time saw motivational team talks, empanadas and cheese, no oranges (or even orange wine) in sight

Second half, pressure was mounting, time to send on the Malbecs

Argentina played Antucura’s Single Vineyard Malbec 2020 seeking to land a knock-out blow against Chateau du Cedre Extra Libre. A tight contest, it was high altitude Antucura that won through. Scores stood at 2-0 🇦🇷

Assured of the win Argentina now wanted to keep a clean sheet and in the final round played the superstar blend Tempus Alba Pleno 2016

Pleno combines Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon oak aged 12 month drinking superbly right now. The French response? Elian Da Ros Chante Coucou Cotes du Marmandais 2017 a delicious blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot

Akin to Messi and Mbappe going head-to-head. In the 88th minute Pleno was the clear winner. Final score 3-0. 🇦🇷

Thanks to our fantastic Tasting Team showing stamina and skill. Clearly all trained hard for the match!

First off, have you been to Bodega Lagarde?

If you’re ever in Mendoza you must book yourself in for lunch at their Fogon restaurant. While enjoying superb wines and food you can gaze at their 100 year old vineyard while sitting on a tree shaded patio

Lagarde Malbec is the flagship wine from Bodega Lagarde winery and the grapes were harvested from vineyards of different ages (planted 1906, 1930, & 1995) in Lujan de Cuyo

50% of the Malbec grapes were aged in oak barrels for 8-10 months. This beautifully balanced wine shows great structure and complexity

Intense violet colouring with red fruit aromas and hints of vanilla and smoke complementing a long smooth finish

Awarded 90 points by James Suckling, this is one stunning Malbec

How do you like your Torrontes? 🌼

This Argentinian grape is known for elegance, medium body and a floral nose

Ruta40 showcase a handful of Torrontes from multiple regions of Argentina so you can easily select and compare your preferred style. Mendoza tends to be slightly fuller bodied with mellow flowers on the nose. Salta, arguably the home of Torrontes, produces beautiful bouquets and stunning high altitude wines

Just arrived in the UK last week, we are delighted to have a Torrontes from winemaker Alejandro at Accuro. He sourced grapes from Cafayate in Salta where there are some of the highest altitude vineyards in the world. This is a beauty, full bodied, lots of floral, herbal, and lychee notes, with lovely medium acidity

And of course Torrontes is your perfect pair for medium spicy food. Try it with Salmon teriyaki or Thai curry. Or delicious on its own

The lovely vineyards of Lagarde 🍇 And the beautiful wines they produce. Established in 1897 and, still today, using vines from that time, this is a very special place in Mendoza. We dropped by last week and met with winemaker Juan Roby Stordeur and owner Sofia Pescarmona for an informal barrel tasting. It’s a tough job! Their green farmed Malbec and Torrontes were delicious and likely to be as great as the current vintages we sell from 2021 and 2022. Lagarde’s classic Malbec is also hugely popular.
