Georgie rang in the New Year with Martine Fontaine champagne 🍾 🥂 🎉! Bénedicte Ruppert and Emanuel Leroy are guiding this up-and-coming second generation producer. Originally sheep farmers, Bénedicte’s parents converted to vineyards when it was no longer economically viable to raise sheep on the land, and they initially sold the fruit to the local coop. Bénedicte started training with some of the top producers and then decided to quit her day job as a physical education teacher, and when her dad was ready to retire, she took over, converting to biodynamics.  Each cuvée is from a single vineyard and single vintage , and made in a Brut Nature method so no extra dosage. This unctuous Champagne made with 100% Chardonnay is elegant and complex with apple, citrus and quince notes, and bone dry with mineral-driven acidity.

Hello old friends - we’re SO excited you’re back! Although a native of Chavanay (next village to Condrieu), Julien is not from a winemaking family. After wine college, he travelled widely, producing wine in both the Roussillon and Spain, and worked for highly respected vignerons like Cuilleron, Gaillard and Pierre-Jean Villa. Julien and his wife returned to Chavanay, and in 2010, started crafting a range of micro-négoce wines (purchasing grapes from local sources). As the name indicates, the grapes for this Syrah come from the left bank of the Rhône River, the ‘other’ river. This is one of my favorite Syrahs – it’s a real expression of the northern pure syrah, meaty, savoury and peppery with very crunchy ripe red fruits. And his delicious Crozes-Hermitage blanc is a perfect cool weather white. It’s made from Marsanne and is rich but fresh and well balanced with floral, white fruit and toasty notes. Yum Yum to both 😋 !!

Posted • The sun is coming out just in time for ! To toast the official first day of Fall, we’re drinking Lammidia Rosso Carbo, a carbonic red wine from Italy 🇮🇹! Davide and Marco have been friends since they were 3 years old, although they took different roads until finding each other again in college, and since then have been on their journey into the world of wine. They make wine by spontaneously fermented grapes, and they don’t add anything and or take anything out. This wine is 100% Montepulciano that undergoes full carbonic maceration for a week. It’s fresh and light with wild beautiful strawberry notes, and we’re serving it for $12 a glass until it’s gone. Cin cin!

Ginger, the hair color or the vegetable, fits well with the spirit of this wine! Domaine Mas Theo Ginger, a skin contact blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, is an earthy and plump orange wine with aromas of yellow plum, apricot and mango with a salty nuttiness. Yum.

We ❤️ Bodegas Albamar Pepe Luis Albariño! Made from biodynamically farmed grapes from the sandy oceanic coast in Rias Baixas, this wine is aged in neutral French oak. The wine is a tribute to Xurxo Alba’s brother and the label is his birth certiciate. Lovely orchard fruit and a citrusy zing!.

Our ACK beach day 🏖 is SO much more fun with this liter of Gulp Hablo. A skin contact Verdejo-Sauvignon Blanc blend from biodynamically farmed grapes, this wine checks in at only 11% ABV and is juicy and zippy on the palate with notes of tea, white flowers and a citrusy zing!

Posted • It’s another HOT city summer afternoon - join us on the patio to cool off with this week’s , a chilled refreshing Alpine red blend, becuase 🥵 + 🍷 + 🧊 + = 😋! Stéphane Tissot has been the driving force behind the dramatic resurgence of Jura wines over the last 20 years and he’s seen as a hero of the region. Stéphane and his wife, Bénédicte, took over for the first generation husband and wife team and Stéphane’s parents, André and Mireille, over 30 years ago (Stéphane remembers cleaning barrels as a kid as he was small enough to get in them to do it!). They are completely biodynamic and are dedicated to experimentation, making up to 30 cuvees per year! The ‘DD’ is named after Stéphane’s father, André ‘DD’ Tissot, and is a naturally produced blend of the Jura’s top three red varietals: aromatic Poulsard, tangy Trousseau, and cherry spice Pinot Noir, all cofermwnted in 2000L barrels. It drinks like a refreshing, wild, herbal Pinot Noir! And PS - don’t miss this magnum - this 2018 vintage is considered by some to be the best vintage of this wine yet!

Winifred is the perfect friend for the heatwave coming this week! Gut Oggau is a project in the small town of Oggau in Burgenland, Austria, started by Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe in 2007. Before starting the winery, Eduard made conventional wine with his father in Styria, and Stephanie’s family owned and operated a Michelin starred restaurant. They painstakingly restored the 17th century winery that had been abandoned for 20 years, including its 200-year-old screw press. The vines’ 20-year period of neglect was fortunate, as this allowed for all pesticide and chemical treatments to be washed away and let them start biodynamic farming immediately. When they began to work with the wines in the cellar, they noticed that each wine seemed so alive with its own personality, that they decided to craft labels centered around the personality inside each bottle. Thus they created a family of wines: each wine is given a name of one family member and the artist Jung von Matt draws a face for each label. Also they famously don’t reveal the details of what grapes are in the blends. ‘Winifred’ is a fun unfiltered blend of Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt with citrus, sour cherry and wildflower notes.

Posted • is baaaack…. on the patio! If you missed last week’s, Georgie picked the iconic Tempier Rosé - she loves it as much as her (human) mama hahaha 😍! As Kermit Lynch said if any wine can be said to have soul, it’s Tempier. When Lucie “Lulu” Tempier married Lucien Peyraud in 1936, her father gave them Domaine Tempier just outside the seaport village of Bandol in Provence, France 🇫🇷. It has been an active farm in their family since 1834. When Lucien tasted a bottle of pre phylloxera Domaine Tempier Bandol, it inspired him to research extensively. Up until then, Mourvèdre had been systematically replanted to higher yielding varietals, but Lucien’s research showed not only its historical roots to the area, but that the grape was more resistant to oxidation and therefore had greater aging potential. He worked with other local vignerons to get Bandol established as its own AOC, which requires a minimum of 50% Mourvèdre in all reds. Needless to say, large-scale replanting of Mourvèdre ensued and Lucien will forever be celebrated as The Godfather of Bandol and the man who revived Mourvèdre to its former glory. The 2019 Rosé is 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache and 20% Cinsault, with floral and fruit driven flavors including strawberry 🍓 and peach 🍑 and vibrant acidity. You may have missed midweek magnum, but you can still grab a Tempier mag or it’s regular sized friends and taste what is widely accepted as the greatest Rosé of all time! And stay tuned for this week’s pick!
