Blanchards was established in 1838 by the Blanchard Family. The first store was located in Scollay Square in Downtown Boston, which is the current location of Boston City Hall. In 1938 it was purchased by John Corey, a visionary in the liquor industry. Corey grew the company from one retail location into a chain retail stores. He also opened a distilled spirits plant and import division in the 1950’s located in Boston’s Historic South End.
