TIX AT LINK IN BIO - We may have left our greatest Spanish tasting this year to last!

Spain is unique in that it is influenced by two contrasting maritime influences. The Mediterranean, whose warmer, saltier waters imbue the wines within its reach with richer, fruiter profiles and marked saline character. The Atlantic however is a different beast entirely. Colder, wilder waters deliver wines of tension and focus with lighter bodied reds and mineral, fine whites. This months tasting focuses on the latter. This regions like Galicia, the Canary Islands the hills of Bierzo. Plus we can’t forget the great wines of Jerez where the cool Atlantic winds collide with the warmth of the Mediterranean with thrilling results.

We have some of Spain’s greatest producers on tasting so don’t miss this one.

TIX AT LINK IN BIO - While Champagne may be king, we would be remiss to not look at the growing number of brilliant sparkling wines from other corners of the world. There’s an incredible patchwork of wines falling under its purview offering a diverse world of flavor, texture, and style. Whether you enjoy the light, fruit-forward nature of Prosecco or the complex, rich character of Franciacorta, there’s a sparkling wine for every taste and occasion. Its versatility, affordability, and regional uniqueness make it just as great, if not more exciting, than Champagne for many wine lovers.

With plenty of regional expression, and quality of craftsmanship on show it’s as exciting as ever to be exploring this wonderful world. There is so much good bubbles around we wanted to showcase the incredible assortment of styles from this brilliant category. It’s an exciting line-up of ‘other’ bubbles and there is plenty there to give Champagne a run for its money without breaking the bank. The local game is stronger than ever before while stalwart players in Italy are certainly strutting their stuff. Outside of that, the world of cremant just keeps getting better and better and offers some of the best value/quality ratios going around.

We’ll have plenty on show to get you stocked up for the silly season and beyond so don’t miss out

TIX AT LINK IN BIO - 2022 is an amazingly consistent vintage. I tasted almost no poor wines. Everything was good to very good, with occasional touches of greatness. JASPER MORRIS, Inside Burgundy

What will time tell from a vintage like 2022 in Burgundy? It’s hard to say at this early stage now but one thing is for sure: in our minds, we are loving what we see. While it was back to a warmer season than the very classically styled 21s the lush fruits and warm palates are balanced by an overall freshness and vitality that give them so much early charm. The whites in particular are looking fantastic and we are excited as more of these land.

The other takeaway alluded to by Jasper Morris above is the fantastic consistency that 2022 looks to have produced. From top to bottom of the food chain there is so much to enjoy from the vintage and with smarter winemaking and grape growing becoming the norm we have been blessed with a raft of beautifully drinking Burgundy to enjoy.

So, with all this great wine coming across our desk and hitting our shores we thought it best to pick some of our favourite producers and wines from 2022, gather them up, and get you all along to see the lay of the land.

TIX LINK IN BIO.

Encompassing approximately 15,500 hectares of vineyards on Frances’s eastern border with Germany the patchwork of vineyards that makes up Alsace offers some of the most unique and fascinating drinking in the wine world. Today, it still seems that Alsace is a bit of hidden treasure with its charming spicy, and floral aromatics and enticing lush fruits a combo that wins you over with ease. It’s a wonder more people haven’t jumped on the Alsace bandwagon.

While there is no doubt that it produces some incredibly delicious and incredible value wines it also makes some of the greatest examples of white wine in the world from its set of classic varietals; Riesling pinot gris, Gewurztraminer and the much-underrated muscat. From its top producers these wines thrill with their incredible mineral drive and often powerful palates that seem to linger long after the last sip.

Protected from rain by the Vosges Mountains to the east the region is marked by a long dry and sunny growing season perfect for ripening grapes. Its medley of soils only adds to the incredible complexity and kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas from its wines. When paired with food they are a gastronomic delight!

We will be exploring this fascinating region on Saturday with a look at some of the best of the best producers to hit our shores and some of the latest vintage releases.

TIX AT LINK IN BIO.

You are going to want to pencil this one in your diaries.

Chardonnay I believe has now taken over Shiraz as Australia’s most popular varietal and it’s easy to see why. We make some incredibly special wines from this much loved grape in just about every corner of the country. It’s ability to adapt and reflect different terroirs around the globe make it the most widespread variety in the world and so it’s a great varietal to showcase head-to-head as a kind of litmus test of sorts to see who which country, which reegion and even which vineyards are the home of the greatest bottlings in the world. It was with this in mind that we decided to put together an International Chardonnay Challenge. With top quality examples from all over the world pitted against the best from our shores. The includes the heavy hitters like France and the USA of course but we hill also be pulling in wines from South America, New Zealand, South Africa and Italy to really give you a great snapshot of where Chardonnay is right now from a truly international perspective.

Join us on the evening of September 19th for our next Aperitivo! An event dedicated to wines, snacks, and good chat. From 6 to 7:30pm, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the exceptional wines of Central Otago’s Prophet’s Rock, hosted by winemaker Paul Pujol.

Paul’s winemaking journey is nothing short of impressive, with experience that spans across continents. He has honed his craft in the vineyards of France and Oregon before bringing his expertise to New Zealand’s Central Otago. At Prophet’s Rock, Paul’s dedication to expressing the unique terroir of the region has earned his wines widespread acclaim. During the event, Paul will guide you through a tasting of his celebrated wines, sharing insights from his rich career and the philosophy that drives his work. And, of course, no Aperitivo would be complete without an array of delicious snacks to enjoy alongside the wines.

TIX AT LINK IN BIO - The Barossa is back! I mean it never really left but there’s now an army of small hungry producers looking to write a new chapters in the history of what is Australia’s most internationally acclaimed wine region. The best of these wines don’t shy away from the naturally gregarious Barossan fruit, but instead take that DNA and strip back any artifice around it. Gone are th wines heavily seasoned with American oak and lighter extractions and earlier picking are the order of the day.

We now see more interesting, well-made and authentic wines coming out of the Barossa than ever before and yes, there is plenty of great Shiraz, but also Grenache, Riesling and Mataro too.

We have assembled 20 wines that we think take a brilliant snapshot of where the Barossa is now and show where it’s headed. We have added in a few neighbours too, producers from down the way that fit this group too.

TIX AT LINK IN BIO!!! Make no mistake, 2019 is one of the greatest Brunello vintages in living memory. It eclipses even those more recent superstar vintages like 2010, 2015 and 2016. These are vintages we would be happy to have on our all-time-greatest-ever list for the region, so the consensus that 2019 surpasses even these really means we are in the presence of true vinous brilliance.

The vintage is consistently great across the multi-faceted region; that’s unusual given the topographical and aspect diversity. The wines are characterised by remarkable balance – richness and bold flavor profiles are buffered by super freshness which gives the wines a vivid delineation of flavors and aromatics. They are breathtakingly beautiful wines and you should make a place for some of these in your cellar.

We are opening 10 of the best wines of the vintage in a special, limited ticket Saturday tasting on the 10th of August. Only $25 with all wines offered at 15% off on the day. Get in quickly for this one as we limiting this to 20 people max!
