🍷HAPPY NOUVEAU DAY🍷

58 tons of fruit were crushed here at 1340 5th Street, and now it’s time to celebrate with a wine that was on the vine only 3 months ago! That about sums up the spirit of our New Glou. Beaujolais may have been first to go global with the idea of bottling up a first taste of the new vintage after the long and demanding harvest, but California Nouveau is now firmly established and shows no signs of slowing down. Each year on the 3rd Thursday of November the tradition continues with Nouveau Day!

Our 2024 New Glou is chuggable, huggable delicious and vibrant. Makes an excellent pairing with seasonal cheese Devil’s Gulch! 🍷

Today 2-8pm we have $10/gl of NEW GLOU and 10% off the Devils Gulch cheese pairing 🍷🧀

Heat is on & music flowing, come hang!

This Thursday, we’re delighted to welcome Will Gondak of Gondak Cellars as our guest winemaker! Purchase a $10 glass of D&G wine for entry, and enjoy free splashes of Will’s wonderful wines, along with local cheese & charcuterie options for purchase!

Gondak Cellars strives to produce elegant wines that highlight the unique features of the vineyards involved. According to Will, it’s all about the vineyard. “The potential quality of a wine is created in the vineyard. It is the winemaker’s task to guide the expression of that quality and to shape the style of wine. Gondak Cellars might technically be a one-person show but there are too many influences, teachers, and experiences to list that all come into play. It’s a “collective effort.””

Will Gondak has been chasing the dream. Experiences making wine in Napa, Sonoma, Australia, New Zealand, France, Santa Cruz, and South Africa have broadened his view into what is possible. The wide array of hands-on experience accompanied by the study of winemaking and viticulture at both Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and Napa Valley College has yielded one curious wine nerd. Will has been calling Sonoma County home for since 2015 and is looking forward to his 18th harvest in 2025.

A full-time side hustle, Gondak Cellars was established in 2015. Will spends the majority of his work time helping make wines for several other brands while slowly building Gondak Cellars. Gondak Cellars will always remain a small brand, focused on high quality, small production wines.

We hope to see you here!

Cheers 🥂

This Thursday is coming all the way from Sonoma County as our Sip&Savor guest pour. We met most recently pouring wines side by side at the event up in Sacramento and these wines are going to wow you 🥂

Anthony Beckman and his wife Alissa Lind have been making unique, elegant wines in Sonoma County since 2014. Their journey to winemaking started in 2001, when they met as coworkers at a website design firm in San Francisco. During this time, they spent all their free time – and money – on wine, food, and trips to Sonoma County wineries. It became evident that this was their calling. So, they quit their technology jobs, and a month later Anthony found himself knee-deep in a tank of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. After graduating from UC Davis’ V&E program with high honors, Anthony spent a harvest in New Zealand at Delagat’s. Internships with Peay Vineyards and Lee Hudson in Napa Valley followed. The couple made their way to Healdsburg in 2006 where their dream of making wine in the heart of Sonoma County became a reality.

Cruess is named for William Cruess, Alissa’s great uncle. Cruess founded the Viticulture and Enology department at UC Davis, and played a key role in early California winemaking. He was a mentor to Robert Mondavi and Charles Krug, and the author of several textbooks on winemaking practices that is still used by present-day UC Davis enology students. His wife Marie created the artwork featured on the Cruess wine labels.

Cruess sources fruit from organic and/or sustainably farmed vineyards in Sonoma County, choosing to make wine only from grapes grown where they live. Anthony uses low intervention winemaking techniques like native yeast fermentation, minimal to zero fining or filtration and not using additives - producing wines that show purity, authenticity and thoughtfulness. Current wines include skin-fermented Gewürztraminer, Provençal-style Grenache rosé and old vine Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast 🥂

Tomorrow night we welcome back Don Henderson as our Sip & Savor guest! Don is bringing some new release wines to try, and there will be live music by & light snacks as well 🥂

Hendersons’ Harvest is a small family winery based in Oakland, California, founded out of a passion for handcrafted French-style wines, and based on the experiences Don had of French culture through his wife’s family. The business has grown into professionally making wine from grapes sourced in Napa Valley.

Don’s wine-making practice has evolved over the years into incorporating the styles of different French and American appellations he enjoys. He’s particularly inspired by the characteristics of the Loire, Bordeaux, and Napa regions.

Don will be releasing a new wine at this event-  Our 2023 Primitivo!  It’s not like the normal old vine Big Mouth Feel Zin. The Primitivo is more like a Pinot Noir, with delicate red berry fruit on the mouth, and a hint of oak for character...  The other wines we’ll pour are: 2023 Sangiovese Rosé, 2023 Vintner’s Melange Rosé, and the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon. And a select few will get a taste of the 2023 Pineau de Mendocino ( A work in progress)...

It’s going to be a good one! Hope to see you here 🥂

Tomorrow come drink wine from Croatia, Transylvania & Serbia while chatting up our Sip & Savor guest of 🥂

Eric spent 15 plus years working in restaurants, two years studying and working abroad (Copenhagen and Rome), 6 years working at a European cabaret meets Vaudevillian circus, and a few harvest internships (including Donkey & Goat!). Then, in 2011 he was fortunate enough to be introduced to a pioneering importer of wines from Central and Eastern Europe called Blue Danube Wine Company.

This was followed by 8 years of building the Bay Area into the largest sales channel for the company, managing parts of the portfolio, traveling to the regions, and feeding an inexplicable urge to learn as much about the people, places and wines as possible. Co-founding Danch & Granger Selections in 2019 is a chance to put all of this together and see what comes next.

Eric will be pouring an NV Edgar Brutler Sisu (Grünspitz) from Transylvania, a 2021 Negotians Vinarius Plavac from the Island of Korčula, Croatia, and a 2022 Ozkár Maurer Red Fruit November (Cabernet Sauvignon) from Fruška Gora, Serbia.

Pair these wines with our new charcuterie items & cheeses and hang with us awhile. We look forward to having you 🥂
