EL CASTRO DE VALTUILLE GODELLO, 2022

A Godello that combines plush, soft mango fruit with a chalky, mineral-like quality. The grapes for this wine are sourced from a unique, sandy plot in the castle grounds of Villafranca del Bierzo.

Characterised by its freshness, elegance and fruit-forward expression. Its palate is layered and broad with stunning notes of nectarine, white peach and lemon, plus a lightly spiced finish from 12 months spent in French oak. The acidity is vibrant and saline, complimenting its weight and texture perfectly. A wine to both enjoy now, and lay a few bottles down for the future.

Available both in-store and at ad-hoc.uk

Domaine de Montcalmès, Terrasses du Larzac (2017)

Though it remains under the radar in comparison to neighbours and mentors, Grange de Pères, winemaker Frédéric Pourtalié has quietly established Montcalmès as one of the most nuanced and high quality producers of the Languedoc.

Syrah and Grenache from limestone and Mourvèdre grown on galets roulés soils (pudding stones, like Châteauneuf) are seamlessly blended in this superbly balanced and delicious red. Light on its feet, but with an assured density and sophisticated structure of fragrant red currant fruits, mineral, detailed tannins, and a long, balanced finish. Impeccable.

DEURIĆ PANNONIAN PET NAT 🌊🫧
FRUSKA GORA, SERBIA

Pearl: A sparkling blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürtztraminer. Fine perlage, extremely fresh and prominent on the nose, followed by Sauvignon notes of citrus fruit with more tropical notes and a hint of spice leant from the Gewürz.

Treasure: Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc made in the ancestral method with skin contact during fermentation. Its fine effervescence adds extra zip to Sauvignon’s juicy lemon and lime notes.

CHÂTEAU SIMONE ROUGE

The celebrated Château Simone rouge, a rare historical gem from Provence. Complex ‘cigar box’, sandalwood and sous bois aromas precede a rich, evolved palate of dark berries and spices with some mushroom and resinous notes - often mistaken for top-quality Bordeaux, It merits decanting, easily supports two decades bottle-age.

Roughly equal parts of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault along with a smattering of lesser-known grapes such as Castet and Manosquin. It exudes Old World terroir and finesse.

JUMI-JUMA, MOLDOVA 🇲🇩

This refreshing Chardonnay & Riesling blend is a low-intervention expression of the southern hills of Moldova, from where it hails. A daring mix of rich Chardonnay and acidic, racy Riesling, it serves as proof that outstanding quality, good value wines still exist.

Full fruited, rich and zesty, the chardonnay brings depth and the rielsing energy to this easy going blend from Moldova. A perfect white for an aperitif or a laid back afternoon.

🐖🐖 BRINDISA BELLOTA IBÉRICO HAM 🐖🐖

The Brindisa bellota ham is made from pigs of 75% Iberico breed that have fattened up on acorns on the dehesa of Extremadura for 10-12 weeks at the end of their lives.

The hams are then expertly cured in Guijuelo, Salamanca for between 30 and 36 months. Sweet and nutty in flavour with an excellent balance between the savoury and nutty elements and a long, complex finish. The perfect accompaniment to a glass of chilled off-dry Riesling, Lambrusco or any other tipple for that matter.

Badoux Vins Murailles Brut NV

The award winning Badoux estate of Switzerland is found on the steeply terraced vineyards climbing the hills behind the town of Aigle and its fairy-tale Château. Still under the watchful eye of the founder Henri Badoux, 590 hectares of vines produce wines of extraordinary pedigree.

Probably one of the most famous and recognisable wines in Switzerland thanks to its iconic Lizard label, a familiar resident known to frequent the vineyards. Their wines are some of the premier wines of the Chablais, if not the entire Vaud - and their Chasselas one of the most famous worldwide.

“Murailles” meaning “fortified walls”, refers to the steepy vineyards supported by kilometers of stone walls, some of them 8 meters high. In harvest times an army of pickers is necessary plus a helicopter to bring the grapes down to the winery.

Stone fruits and white florals abound whilst the palate posesses a distinctive character of foam banana, nutmeg, and yoghurt with a mineral edge to add complexity. This wine wonderfully approachable now, but possesses an undoubtable ability to age gracefully for several years.

Boekenhoutskloof 🇿🇦

Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon

This blockbuster Cabernet Sauvignon from one of South Africa’s oldest & most respected estates has established itself as one of the finest Cabernet’s from the renowned Stellenbosch region. The wine enjoys 18 months in French oak barrels, giving it a supple, smooth palate & delicious red fruits.  There is a dark, brooding nose of black fruits & cedar & the palate is smooth & intense, filled with dark cherry, forest fruits & vanilla oak notes.

Boekenhoutskloof Syrah

Dark fruit dominates an intense, brooding nose with its black currant, black olive, tar and graphite aromas. Luscious, sweet red and dark berries follow through onto an exceptionally complex palate with rich flavours of ripe plums, black cardamom and hints of ground pepper and sweet to***co. A serious core of cured meat and green olive tapenade add to the attractive savoury character of the structured mid-palate, with notes of milk chocolate coating the mouth. The wine is supple, medium to full-bodied, with beautiful concentration, silky-textured tannins and vibrant acidity to balance.

SOV’RAN PINOT BLANC 2022, UK

Taken from the Heartenoak vineyard, nestled in the South Downs. Known for its rich, chalky soil, Heartenoak wines are gorgeously mineral and this Pinot Blanc is no exception. Notes of lemon zest, green apple and wet stone move to a well-rounded, medium-bodied palate with further flavours of blossom and pear. A real hidden gem, and at only 1170 bottles produced, certainly a wine to savour.

SWEET NECTAR.…🍯

1. Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2013

Beautiful and intense, with a spicy nose of dried apricot, toasted rye bread and saffron. The palate is rich and silky, with ripe pineapple, mango and Seville orange marmalade notes. The acidity is fresh balancing the sweetness expertly and the finish dances between sweetness and acidity, with delicate saffron and hazelnut notes coming through alongside the fruit character.

2. Alves de Sousa Gaivosa Porto White 10 YO

This 10-year-old white Port is made from a blend of traditional white grape varieties grown in the Douro region, such as Malvasia Fina, Viosinho, and Gouveio. It exhibits a golden colour with amber reflections. On the nose, expect a rich and aromatic bouquet, combining dried fruits, nuts, honey, and a subtle hint of spices. The palate is smooth and velvety, boasting notes of dried apricots, almonds, caramel, and marmalade, creating a luscious and lingering finish.

3. Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, Domaine des Bernardins

Intensely perfumed sweet wine with aromas and flavours of apricots, peaches, honey and raisins. Delicious served chilled. Bernardins is one of the best estates in the village.

4. Curatolo Arini Marsala Vergine Riserva 1995

Light amber colour. Nutty and complex nose with dried fruit, to***co and sweet spices like gingerbread and nougat. The palate has a balanced sweetness, nutty and spicy with mature and complex flavours, almond, biscuits and plenty of dried fruit, a balanced freshness and a long nutty finish.

DOBOGÓ TOKAJI FURMINT 2009 🇭🇺

Dobogó makes a dry white from the versatile Furmint variety that deserves more attention. Medium gold in colour with a complex array of aromas including fresh notes of lime, pear, quince, herbs, chamomile and a hint of spiciness.

The taught acid structure balances the ripe fruit concentration and salty, mineral character, which lingers with an elegant finish. A young and dynamic wine, which can be enjoyed immediately or aged for several years.

Domaine De Trévallon Rouge 2014

Domaine de Trévallon is a cult wine estate with a near mythical status. It was Éloi Dürrbach who took on the monumental task of transforming (with dynamite) the property into one of France’s most fabled wine estates. Located in the Alpilles near the medieval fortress town of Les Baux-de-Provence, the property has been organically farmed since the beginning. Low intervention winemaking reigns supreme at Trévallon, where whole cluster, wild yeast ferments and used oak élevage create wines of an indelibly alluring character.

Refusing to comply with appellation regulations limiting the amount of Cabernet Sauvignon to 20%, Eloi established a cult following for his 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah.

The 2014 Alpilles Rouge is in a gorgeous place right now. Dried herbs, rose petal, mint, sweet red cherry, licorice and pipe to***co give the 2014 tremendous aromatic nuance and overall presence. The 2014 is an especially mid-weight, gracious Trevallon that is just starting to drink well and will last for years to come. Shows the results possible with gut instinct, belief, limestone and a few sticks of dynamite.

Famille De Boel France is a small family-run estate in the high elevations of Saint Joseph.

Famille de Boel France ‘Le Gras C’est La Vie’ 2022

A showstopper of a wine coming from a young plot of vines in the southern side of the Rhone Valley. This hand-harvested blend of Carignan, Grenache, and Caladoc (a cross between Malbec and Grenache) has a bright and brambly nose that leads to a palate of red and black fruits, full of spicy texture, and has just the right amount of meaty grip.

Famille De Boel ‘Je Vous Adore’ Vaucluse Rosé, 2021

Hailing from a small plot of vines planted within the Vaucluse region of the Southern Rhone. This 100% Caladoc is pale pink in colour, with aromas of citrus, flowers and stone fruit. The mouth feel is balanced and shows bright grapefruit, white-fleshed fruit, a touch of saline and lavender. Zippy acidity with a long finish!

Super crisp, white Saumur produced from Chenin Blanc on the chalky soils of Anjou (Loire Valley). A refreshing, fruity, bon marché crowd-pleaser perfect for this heat.

Fresh & zingy. Great lemon and citrus nose with a touch of gun smoke. On the palate, it’s fresh and full of orchard and citrus with good minerality and a lovely crisp acidity. Ideal as an aperitif, or to pair with seafood.

Chilled reds are back on the menu…

Fattoria di Sammontana Alberese IGT Toscana 2022

A blend of Sangiovese and Trebbiano, fermented together with a very brief time on skins, and then aged in steel tanks. The result, a beautifully light-bodied, energetic and juicy wine. The red fruits mingle with a typical Tuscan earthiness and finish off with grippy tannins and notes of cherry and pepper.

The perfect red for a warm day or night. Available in-store and online at ad-hoc.uk & pouring by the glass this week 🍷

Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie: Jean-François Baron 2022

There’s Muscadet, and then there’s Muscadet. This zesty, palate-tingling wine is the latter. Bone dry, pale in colour with a slightly saline ‘sea breeze’ scent and life-affirming acidity- makes a bracing aperitif and goes down a treat with oysters, mussels and other ‘fruits de mer’.

Beautifully adorned by Quentin Blake’s illustration too, making this bottle a very attractive proposal.

Tempo al Vino Alese Negroamaro del Salento

Negroamaro, grown almost exclusively in southern Italy, in particular Puglia where the warm Mediterranean climate allows the drought-resistant, heat-loving grape to ripen easily. Known for producing wines very deep in colour with bold flavour.

This young, un-oaked version from the Schola Sarmenti vineyards in Salento is a lustrous ruby-violet colour with a warm, charmingly complex aroma of ripe red fruit and a smooth wash of ripe plum, subtle spice, vanilla and coffee. Rich, velvety and easy drinking from start to finish.

Domaine de Montille Puligny-Montrachet

Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates, founded in the mid-18th century, this family-owned estate is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or, with ninth-generation Etienne de Montille now at its helm.

Very much at the top of his game, producing wines of exceptional quality: scintillating, proper Burgundies, across both reds and whites. The combination of erosion and their biodynamic farming have made the vines roots dive deeper into the original terroir. This gives the Puligny-Montrachet a density and an unusual complexity.

On the nose, the wine has notes of citrus oil, white flowers, fresh pastry and beeswax. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, layered and succulent, combing charming stone fruits with mineral nuance.
