"Brighton Gin was born of a passion for gin, and a passion for the place where we live and play - we wanted to create a gin that embodied the spirit of Brighton: unusual, playful and fiercely independent.

It started with months of experimentation with different ingredients, combinations, distilling techniques and approaches, and more than one or two accidents along the way (but we lived to tell the tale!) and lots of trying out recipes on fellow gin-loving friends until we finally hit the perfect blend.

Brighton Gin is made with 100% British organic wheat spirit - super smooth, and without any of the nasties that can give you a sore and sorry head - which we re-distill with juniper, fresh orange and lime peel, locally-grown coriander seed (this first UK commercially grown coriander seed in over 200years) and milk thistle, which is indigenous to the South Downs and renowned for its kindness to the liver function...

Each bottle is filled by hand, we stick each label on and dip every one in wax ourselves: no factory production lines here. We also try to keep our carbon footprint down by delivering in Brighton and Hove on our specially adapted gin bike - that’s a lot of huffing and puffing up some of those hills!

We also found that drinking Brighton Gin neat with just ice and a twist of orange was a rather nice things to do, and many of our drinkers just prefer to do that. But it works well with a splash of quality tonic, and we recommend a slice of orange to bring out the flavour of the citrus botanicals at their very best.

Our top quality ingredients, attention to detail to make each bottle of Brighton Gin just perfect, and our small batch production make Brighton Gin a premium product. But we hope you agree that it’s well worth it"

Rakı is an unsweetened, occasionally (depending on area of production) anise-flavored, alcoholic drink that is popular in Turkey, Greece, (where it is distinctly different and comes as an unflavoured distillate, unlike its Turkish counterpart), Iran, Turkic countries, and in the Balkan countries as an apéritif. It is often served with seafood or meze. It is similar to several other alcoholic beverages available around the Mediterranean and the Middle East, e.g. pastis, ouzo, sambuca, arak, Aragh Sagi and aguardiente. In Turkey and Greece, it is considered a national drink.
There are two methods of Turkish rakı production. One method uses raisins and other grapes. Yeni Rakı is produced from raisins and Tekirdağ Rakısı is produced from grapes. Fresh grape rakı is like ouzo but has a higher alcohol content.

Its lighter on the Juniper, but it’s not completely absent. The high notes are cucumber and rose, and you’ll notice that savvy bartenders will garnish a Hendrick’s and tonic with a cucumber instead of a lime. The cucumber is a subtle taste, that blends in. It can be easily overpowered by either a strong tonic or lime juice. The rose stands out to me more. The floral notes are strong; however, not as strong as the saffron in the Saffron gin.

Because of the unusual blend of flavors and their mildness, this gin I think is best served as straight gin with tonic. I’d leave out the lime juice to fully appreciate the flavors in this bottle. But surprisingly, despite the unusual notes, Hendrick’s is surprisingly versatile. Not bad, though its best parts are obscured in a Tom Collins; the floral tones work beautiful with creme de violette in an aviation. As a martini Hendrick’s shines as well and it falls into the category of “gateway” gins, as the kind of gins that might appeal to a less enthusiastic gin connoisseur; however, unlike some of the sweeter more eccentric boutique gins, I think Hendrick’s offers enough of the things that gin drinkers like to be a worthwhile bottle to add to their collection

Overall, I love this gin, and its one of my favorites. I generally don’t have cucumber sitting around to garnish with, but in a glass of ice and tonic this gin is one of my favorite summer drinks.
