Join us this Saturday 1-4pm for a Sake tasting with Kayoko Abe.

She will be pouring two Hananoi sakes:

Junmai Duck-N-Sakura

This sake is made with "divine rice" cultivated naturally for ages, where ducks grace freely and uses "divine water" from Goshogomagataki Shrine in Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture, protecting a thousand-year-old forest. It's a unique creation, avoiding sake rice, and highlighting the Toji's skills.

Ortho-nasal: Sweet aroma reminiscent of Sherry wine, followed by flavors of muscat, rum raisin, vanilla, red bean paste.

Palate: A delightful sweetness and aging notes. This sake uses whole ancient grains, providing the umami richness of glutamic acid and a clean sweetness similar to syrup.

Retro-nasal: Pleasant hints of plum sake, lily flowers, mandarin orange, and a subtle touch of lime lingering gracefully.

Tokubetsu Junmai “Cat Thief“

This sake is created using edible Koshihikari not sake rice, and is aged for over two years, resulting in a harmonious and crisp profile with a dry taste, umami, acidity, and a subtle bitterness.

On the nose, Orthonezal offers aromas of roasted chestnut skin, freshly pounded rice cakes, green apples, and a hint of nutmeg. When you take a sip, you'll experience restrained sweetness, a clean, sharp, and refreshing acidity, along with the umami from the edible rice, all while a gentle bitterness lingers in the aftertaste, leaving a refreshing aroma and richness.

This Saturday, July 20th MacArthur Beverages welcomes Marina Marcarino, Owner & Wine Maker of Punset Barbaresco. A Leader and Pioneer for Biodynamic Organic winemaking In Piemonte.

As one of the first of woman winemakers in the Piedmont Marina has made an indelible mark for quality and consistency in Barbaresco. Marina founded the Vintesa Italian Wines Consortium to promote an organic philosophy, stating: “I wish to confront with the world of conventional wine, and show that we can become great while respecting nature, the environment and ourselves.” Her Barbaresco Riserva has been listed multiple times in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines.

Staff picks for the 4th... We are your cookout headquarters!

We are pleased to present some wines, spirits and beer we think will be perfect for your 4th. This is some of what we’ll be drinking on Thursday and feel free to stop by for many more suggestions (and a bag or two of ice if you need it). FYI we will be closed on the 4th, so get your order in now for speedy in-store pickup or delivery

On a side note our very own Pitmaster Phil smoked a pork shoulder for the staff Saturday. Swipe left to see a pic. It turned out pretty decent.

Phil’s tips for smoked pork shoulder (butt)

-trim the fat cap down to about an inch or take it off completely. There’s plenty of fat already on a shoulder
-Use a generous amount of dry rub -whatever you like,,,after many years of trying everything I just do good old salt and pepper most of the time!
-Smoke at 225-250… if you don’t wrap it will probably take 13-15 hours
-to speed things up you can wrap in foil once the internal temp is 165 or so and the bark is set
-once it hits 195 IT probe with your thermometer-when it slides in with almost no resistance it’s done
-rest on the counter until IT drops to at least 170 and then put in warming drawer set at 160 or wrap in foil and a towel and set in a dry cooler until ready to serve
-don’t use bear claws! If you did it right you can shred by hand using some nitrile gloves with cotton liners
-mix in some BBQ sauce and extra rub to the pan while you are shredding it up (optional step)
