1. 2018 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Notes:

This Cabernet Sauvignon is an inky dark plum/purple color with deeply concentrated aromas of cassis and black cherry notes with a hint of to***co and tanning leather.

The palate is rich and silky with firm but approachable tannins laced with classic vanilla and mocha notes. The finish has a touch of astringency which is akin to high cacao chocolate.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

Austin Hope is the epitome of a great wine. It is wonderful to drink and wonderful to give as a gift. It is one of the few wines I know that everyone loves once they taste it.

Although it is priced a little more than an everyday drink, it is great for those special occasions.

Austin Hope is part of the same winery that produces Liberty School, Troublemaker, and Treana. With solid wine like that in your family...you know it has to be good!

1. TYPESETTER CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Winemaker Notes:

This Cabernet Sauvignon is an inky dark plum/purple color with deeply concentrated aromas of cassis and black cherry notes with a hint of to***co and tanning leather.

This wine is ready to drink now but will improve in the cellar through 2040.
Deep cherry red color with a dark violet edge. Intense and complex aroma of ripe fruits, dark fruits jams, to***co, and leather. A full-bodied wine with a strong structure and noticeable freshness. Smooth and elegant, complemented with gentle tannins and pleasant finish.

This fine Cabernet Sauvignon was produced out of a very high end, hillside estate winery in Calistoga. It was created as a blend from 4 different blocks on the estate and blended together to make a very complex, concentrated and dense wine that is everything you expect in a $100+ bottle from the Napa Valley because this is what it is.

2.CHATEAU BARBEBELLE ROSE FLEURI​

Winemaker Notes:
Wine drinkers will enjoy the label playing on the Château name (barbe is French for beard). The wine itself is a light, freshly enjoyable blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah, ripe, and downright fruity from Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

I love a nice Provence Rose’ and this one fits the bill. It will be a great wine for the summer - around the pool or for just something refreshing! You can guarantee that there are already a few in my wine cooler!

3. BARDOS ROMANTICA RIBERA DEL DUERO​

Winemaker Notes:

Deep cherry red color with a dark violet edge. Intense and complex aroma of ripe fruits, dark fruits jams, to***co, and leather. A full-bodied wine with a strong structure and noticeable freshness. Smooth and elegant, complemented with gentle tannins and pleasant finish.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

Anyone that knows me, knows that I have a special affinity for Spanish wines. When I treat myself, I will search for a Reserva or Gran Reserva, but this Crianza is a solid drinker. It is a good Tempranillo with sufficient tannins to remind you it was from Spain.

1. 13 CELSIUS SAUVIGNON BLANC MARLBOROUGH

Winemaker Notes:

Vibrant aromatic of citrus, lychee, and sweet herbs. The crisp edge of minerality teases the refined acidity with a refreshing finish that defines iconic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

I don’t drink a lot of whites and usually not Sauvignon Blancs. But this wine does not have the strong grapefruit taste that I find in a lot of New Zealand Sauv Blancs. It is crisp, cool, and citrusy without being overpowering. A great summer wine!

2. LE CLOS DU CAILLOU COTES DU RHONE ROSE

Winemaker Notes:

This wine has a pretty brilliant color of Cavaillon melon flesh. The nose is intensely fragranced with a panel of exotic fruit aromas, Antilles banana accompanied by notes of grapefruit. The mouth is creamy and tonic, on aromas of white flesh fruits and peach, with a long finish.

I have come to really enjoy French wine. What is better than having an inexpensive wine on the hot days? This a nice Rosé really makes a wonderful treat.

3. PONZI PINOT GRIS

Winemaker Notes:

Honeydew melon, white peach, kaffir lime with spicy notes of cardamom, clove and floral aromatics of pear blossom and candied orange make this appealing nose leap from the glass. The fresh palate is defined by tangerine and kumquat acidity intermingled with apricot and green tea.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

I am a red wine drinker. But occasionally I run across a white wine that really catches my attention. This is one of those wines. Ponzi Pinot Gris is clean and not overly citrusy. It is delightful and perfect for warm weather. This white is so impressive, that many of my red wine drinking friends have ordered this white wine. And you can’t beat the CorkQueen Price!

Winemaker Notes:

Big and bold, featuring deep crimson color and aromas reminiscent of blackberry, black currant, and cassis with subtle notes of roasted vanilla and spice. On tasting, it shows opulent silky texture and juicy berry and bramble flavors that echo the aromas with just a hint of velvety oak lengthening the finish.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

When I first tried this wine, I couldn’t believe how bold, yet smooth it was. More surprising than that was the price. This is a great cab for an awesome price. You won’t be disappointed.

2. MINISTRY OF THE VINTERIOR CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Winemaker Notes:

A deep burgundy color with purple undertones. The nose is inviting with red currants, blackberries, and a hint of blackberry. In the mouth, the wine reveals a sexy mix of black cherries, blackberries, pipe smoke, and espresso tightly woven into a matrix of supple and broad tannins that layer the flavors densely and persistently on the tongue.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

This wine was the overall winner in a recent tasting. It is an easy, smooth drink with plenty of vanilla flavor. It is bold but smooth and can be enjoyed with food or by itself, and the label is pretty cool!

1. CORDERO CON PIEL DE LOBO MALBEC

Winemaker Notes:

It’s a neat, rich, and fruit-driven Malbec with clean aromas and flavors, a nice mouthfeel, and very good freshness.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

This Malbec deserves 4 stars because of the cost-benefit, low price, and decent quality. Notes of to***co, oak, and blackberries. Balanced acidity. Really nice pairing with red meat. Winemaker Notes:

The wine shows deep purple color, explosive in the nose featuring a mix of crushed red and black fruits, sweet spice-tinged with cedar. An incredible value, possessing fantastic fruit, excellent mid-palate depth, and ripe tannins.

CorkQueen Thoughts:

All the characteristics of a Tempranillo. Dark fruits blackberry, dark cherry, coffee, and leather. Nice tannins and acidity, high alcohol. Great price for a Spanish Tempranillo!
