It All Started In 1993

In 1993, a relationship, forged and nurtured by two mothers, birthed a friendship between two young men that has since served as a catalyst for an amazing life journey. During the early stages of their growth, seeds of intrigue, exploration and acceptance were planted and cultivated, yielding unbridled humanitarianism, love and appreciation of the shared knowledge, wisdom and counsel of others, regardless of their societal station in life.

This openness allowed them to receive tutelage from a gentleman named D.C. D.C. would mentor and mold them into polished and refined young men with a few wise and properly executed tips: stand when a lady enters or leaves a room, the proper way to wear a tailored suit is to check the fit of your jacket and ensure your pants “break” on top of your shoes, and be gracious tippers. One of the last things that were taught was how to order and drink your whiskey… four fingers on the rocks.

Well equipped with the zest and savoir faire needed to open doors to opportunity, they began to explore the world, extracting information and resources from every encounter; distilling and filtrating facts to their purest form to reveal a facet of their quest.

Imbibing the arts, entertainment, food and of course the fine liquors and whiskeys that the various cultures had to offer, they decided to do something few men of their generation had ever done, craft their own alcohol.

In 2016, they reached out to their childhood friend, a wine broker, and she accepted the challenge to guide them on the journey of exploring the alcohol industry. Initially, the focus was on tasting and researching Sake. The thought was that there wasn’t a saturation of Sake in the industry and that would provide a wow factor in the realm of spirits. However, they soon discovered that Sake wasn’t a spirit they could personally identify with. The decision was made! The avenue to explore was one they were familiar with and one they loved to partake of and that was American whiskey.

The process was both riveting and informative. They learned that a refined, respected whiskey, like a refined, respected man had to be cultivated. If provided with the proper materials, exposed and guided through the correct process and allowed to stow away to maturity, mashed grain, water and aromatics would evolve from a taste that is raw and brutal to one that is smooth and sophisticated. It took a while as they surveyed a variety of distillers because they wanted something that had a great taste and was smooth on the passage while enjoyed by women & men alike.

Eventually, they commissioned a distiller that met all of the characteristics they needed to create their whiskey. How fitting that the same journey required for them to become men of substance was the same journey needed to produce a distilled spirit that encompasses everything the water of life was meant to be… and all because they were open to and accepted “Guidance”

Guidance Whiskey, launched in October 2018 to be shared and enjoyed by all.

Fermented in charred white oak barrels for 2 years in Indiana & distilled in Iowa. A young whiskey that is rare and perfect for the novice & the aficionados.
