Thirsty Thursday: The Proof is in the Pinot!

Our Lady of Guadalupe Pinot Noir 2021
Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara, California

93 points, Vinous Media
Dave Phinney is well-known in the wine industry for his smash success wineries The Prisoner and Orin Swift, favorites of both wine collectors and novices. His newest venture, Our Lady of Guadalupe, or OLG, focuses on Phinney’s single vineyard of the same name located in the Santa Rita Hills of Santa Barbara. He found the property in 2015 and recognized the old row crop farm as a diamond in the rough. The diatomaceous soils and cool, windy climate make for the perfect environment to grow world class Pinot Noir. He spent six years preparing the soil, selecting clones and rootstocks tailored to the vineyard site, and implementing sustainable practices. 2021 is the very first vintage of what is sure to be another successful project for Phinney. His wines are always as high quality as they are opulent and fruit-forward, but his attention to detail and the unique terroir set this project, and this wine, apart.
On the nose, aromas of black cherry, hibiscus, rose petal, and cinnamon come through. On the palate, you’ll find rich notes of raspberry, pomegranate, baking spice, with a hint of amaro. The texture is extremely silky. We recommend pairing with wild mushroom ragu over polenta, pulled pork with bourbon barbecue sauce, steak au poivre, or creole fish etouffee.

Usually priced at $84.99/bottle…

It's Whiskey Wednesday! Check out this drop ⬇

Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof Whiskey | It’s here! Our single barrel of Jack Daniels Barrel Proof has arrived. Jack Daniels operates their single barrel program a little bit differently than other distilleries. Instead of selecting random barrels to send out for picking, they instead taste through their supply of barrels until four of their distillers agree that a barrel is truly a stand out. Once that happens, they pass their barrel on to us! Even though this barrel was already heavily vetted by the top brass of Jack Daniels, we wasted no time in cracking a bottle to give you our personal tasting notes. On the nose, salted caramel, cinnamon, butterscotch budino, and oaky spice leap forward with a touch of stone fruit breaking up the warming aromas. The palate offers more dessert flavors of milk chocolate, creamy vanilla, and roasted nuts with a hint of dried hay on the finish. At 134 proof, it packs quite the punch!

WhistlePig 25 Year Single Malt | This is so ridiculously limited that they had to give it a ridiculous name just to match. Meet “The Badonkadonk” (we aren’t making this up), WhistlePig’s oldest single malt release. Aged 25 years and finished in an undisclosed amount of time in the prestigious Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. Amazingly decadent with notes of fig, butterscotch, and plum with warm cedar wood, leather, toasted almonds, and wild honey on the palate. Wow!

WhistlePig Boss Hog XI | It’s that time of year again when the very limited Boss Hog series enters our store! Each iteration is just as unique as the last with this year’s rye being finished in Thandai barrels. Thandai is a cold drink from South Asia composed of exotic nuts and spices. Expect notes of rye allspice, clove, and black peppercorn on the nose with rich orchard fruit, fennel, baking spice, and saffron on the palate. A one-of-a-kind dram that stands out in any collection.

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Greywacke is synonymous with quality in Marlborough. The 2022 vintage was rated 95 points and was on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 last year! It hasn’t been easy to get our hands on, but we got a case of the new vintage, and we want to share it with you!

Tenuta di Ghizzano ‘Il Ghizzano’ Costa Toscana 2021
92 points, James Suckling
Tenuta di Ghizzano is one of the oldest estates in the Pisan countryside. It is certified organic and biodynamic. They focus on biodiversity as well, with olive trees and forest surrounding the vineyard (truffle hunters love these woods!). This is a Sangiovese with a touch of Merlot blended in, a lovely autumnal pick.

Domaine le Galantin Bandol 2020
Bandol is a small appellation within Provence in southern France. It specializes in rich, peppery reds made mostly with Mourvèdre. Domaine le Galantin is no exception, and produces this excellent old-vine Mourvèdre. This is the perfect pairing for venison!
94 points, Decanter

Ridge ‘Three Valleys’ Zinfandel Blend 2022
94 points, Decanter; 91 points, Wine Enthusiast
Ridge has quite the pedigree: first wine released in 1962, top five finish in the Judgment of Paris in 1976, and served at a White House state dinner in 2016! Their focus on producing superb single vineyard wines has kept them highly regarded to this day.

Artesa Napa Valley Cabernet 2019
92 points, Wine Enthusiast
In 1992, Raventós Codorníu, Spain’s oldest winemaking family, started this project in Los Carneros, Napa Valley. Their knowledge of winemaking, combined with the premium Napa terroir, has resulted in high-quality wines that over-deliver for the price, a true rarity!

Discover the new flavors of Mexico's thriving wine scene with two outstanding additions to Steve’s - Junction! We’re excited to introduce Dominio de las Abejas Nebbiolo 2023 and RGMX Scielo Blanco 2023. Dominio de las Abejas is located in Valle de Ojos Negros, Baja California. The valley is perpendicular to the Pacific Ocean, which brings cooling breezes that allow for the grapes to gain complexity without becoming overripe. RGMX hails from Valle de Parras, Coahuila, in northeastern Mexico. It is the home of the Americas’ oldest winery, founded in 1597! RGMX has been around since 1998, however, and focuses on minimal intervention winemaking and uses only estate grown fruit.

Dominio de las Abejas Nebbiolo brings you notes of ripe blackberries, anise, and a hint of spice, with velvety tannins and a long, smooth finish. Meanwhile, Scielo Blanco offers crisp green apple, juicy pear, and delicate floral aromas, ending on a refreshing mineral note. These wines are a true taste of Mexico’s innovative winemaking. Try one for yourself!

Thirsty Thursday: "I Vant to Drink Your Vine" -🧛‍♂️

Opolo Viognier 2022
Central Coast, California

In 1999, friends and neighbors Rick Quinn and David Nichols started their winery, Opolo Vineyards. They started off as home winemakers in 1993, but as Rick said, the operation was “a hobby that got out of control.” 25 years later, they are still making beautiful wines out of Paso Robles, but they have come a long way from their humble roots. Their Viognier is aromatic and lush. On the nose, aromas of orange blossom and candied peaches leap from the glass. On the palate, expect notes of ripe pear, tangerine, and Meyer lemon. Bright acidity balances the creaminess as well as the very light touch of spice from a small amount of oak aging.
This Viognier is the perfect fall white, pairing with cozy dishes such as butternut squash stuffed shells or red curry. But we think this wine would really shine on the Thanksgiving table, complementing the turkey, sweet potato casserole, roasted carrots, creamy macaroni and cheese, and more!

Usually priced at $24.99/bottle…

Thirsty Thursday has returned!

Replica's 'Just Right' Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 not only delivers a rich and balanced wine experience, but also embodies the winery’s commitment to environmental sustainability. As part of their ongoing efforts to combat the global threat of colony collapse disorder, the winery works diligently to implement bee-friendly practices and reduce pesticide use, protecting vital pollinators and local ecosystems. The label features the Xerces butterfly, a poignant reminder of the species that went extinct due to pesticide use, underscoring the importance of protecting biodiversity for future generations.
This Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a flavor profile of dark fruits like blackberries and plums, complemented by hints of mocha, cedar, and spice. It’s a versatile wine that pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as braised short ribs or eggplant parmesan.

They're Heeeere 👻

Hendrick's has re-released their fan-favorite Cabinet of Curiosities Midsummer Solstice!

Fruity, floral, and absolutely delicious. Expect notes of raspberry, rose, strawberry, and a hint of juniper. This hasn't been released since 2019 and it won't last long, so don't wait to scoop up a bottle (or three).

Try it with Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic or in a spritz! Trust us, Midsummer is just as good in Autumn as in Summer.
