Antler on the Mountain

Handmade Antler Art by Zack Taylor My hope is that my art imparts a veneration for the Natural World into the heart of whomever comes in contact with it.

I feel that surrounded by hustle and bustle, honks and rings, screens and pavement; we need reminders of the great outdoors, the natural wildness outside our walls. When I work with antler my mind often wanders to a couple of robust bucks snarling and hoofing the dirt with the rocky steepness of some mountain in the background. They are about to spar for the love rights to a beautiful doe who coy

ly swishes her white tail back and forth. After the dust settles, and the rut is over until next year, the bucks rub their antlers on trees until they are shed somewhere on the sloped peak. This sort of pure wildness is innate in every antler that I am blessed to work with. When we fill our homes and personal space with natural elements we get a taste of the wildness of Nature; a wildness that still lives inside of us. Deer shed and re-grow their antlers every year. I only use shed antlers which means no animals are hurt for my art.
