Grandy Creek Grocery is still hiring! Right now we are looking for someone who can do a 1 to 9:15 shift on Sunday and an 11 to 6 shift on Monday. As the season turns to spring this could roll into additional hours.

We will teach you all the tricks of running the register, making food for the hot case, stocking the over 5,000 items that rotate through the store, pumping propane, operating the fuel pumps, cleaning the restrooms (I know glamorous,right) working with the customers and sooo much more.

How much do you get for doing this? Washington State minimum wage in January is $16.28 per hour. You would be starting at that.
How do I get this job? First we are looking for someone 21 and up so we can train you to work independently. Gotta be that old to sell to***co and alcohol on your own. It limits us a bit on how we can use your awesomeness if you’re under 21. Stop by the store and grab an application, take it to your favorite spot, fill it out and bring it back. We will collect applicatitons and then set up some interviews.

Grandy Creek Grocery is still hiring! We have hired one and just looking for a couple more. We have some full or part times shifts available.

As you may have heard, Grandy Creek Grocery is in the final stages of a sale. The new owners have asked us to assist in finding some great new team members. We are looking for 2 to 3 people to cover a range of shifts. Opening, mid-day and closing. Typically shifts can range from 3 hours to 8 hours. A couple days per week or more. It just depends on how it fits within your life and schedule.

So, normally I won’t post and ask for a little community support but I was speaking with Calvin, our kindling supplier and firewood supplier as you head up baker lake road. He fills his wood box by the highway and it pretty much operates on the honor system while he is away or if it is late in the evening. Yesterday he filled up his wood box and was away for a few hours. He had over 40 bundles loaded up. Someone came in and took all of the bundles and left him one dollar. They took over $200 of firewood and left him a dollar. He was telling me that it just hurts because that $200 would buy a lot of propane this winter.  He is pretty hard working and would do anything to help someone out. That is the Calvin that we have come to know over the years. Also, I’m sure if he knew I was doing this he would not want me to. 🙂 He is pretty modest. So, if you happen to stop by the store and want to drop an extra buck or two to help replenish the wood box for Calvin, we will match up to the $200.

So today someone drove off with the nozzle on pump #1. It would not reconnect. Someone did this last week with pump #5 and I used my last replacement breakaway connector. 5 is good now. 1 will be fixed this weekend. I have done this dance over 12 times since 2020. So about 4 times per year. The breakaway parts were $65 in 2020 $85 in 2021, $100 in 2022 and now $118 in 2023. UGH!

The block bandit has struck again! But to be fair, I’m sure that he is not the same as the other times. There are multiple bandits. Now if we could just figure an easy way to put it back each time.

So this little ray of sunshine decided to visit us after hours. He stole one of the cameras from the side of the building. What he does not realize is that we have several other angles of him and he will need to become very creative if he wants them all. He used some buckets turned upside down as his step stool. Definitely needed one as law enforcement puts him at about 5’5”. Just a tiny little fellow. But, the bright yellow sweatshirt should be a give away. I know someone out there knows him, or his sweatshirt. Please share as there are some county employees that would like to have a word with him. If you know him, you can message us, call the sheriff or drop by and let us know. Thank you.

Our Story

We kicked this whole thing off on November 15th, 2005.

You see, I had worked for a local beverage company in the 90’s. I would deliver to little mom and pop stores all over the Skagit, Island and San Juan counties and I could see the stores that were successful and those that were not. I always took mental notes and I would think to myself, self, if I owned one of these, I would do things differently.

I got out of the beverage business and started and sold a couple businesses and this gave me the building blocks for what was to come. I had heard that the store may be for sale so I decided to investigate. I stopped in a couple times as a customer to check things out and then one day asked the guy behind the counter, if the store was for sale. I told him I had heard a rumor. He said, “yep, you wanna buy it?” and things progressed from there.

We really had no plan on the how, what, where and why the heck we were jumping into this other than I knew it was something that I/we felt was right at the time.
