This 90 proof, 8 year old Kentucky bourbon is made with 74% corn, 18$ rye, and 8% malted barley. The nose is soft with notes of burley tobacco, hay, lemon, and leather. The palate is soft and fruity as well with a nice balance of rye spice and barrel spice rounding out a generally very drinkable whiskey. Sometimes a right down the middle sipper for 50 bucks is all you need, and this fits the bill perfectly.

The lowest proof of any Stagg Jr, (now just Stagg) ever released, batch 23C is filled with wild berry aromas, including grape, blackberry, and darker florals. On the palate, initial oak explodes into fruit and spice. Honey, caramel, and nougat along with the continued line of dark fruit fight it out harmoniously with the baking spices. Some fresh apple skins and apple pie cinnamon sugar to finish as well. Big, juicy, worth of the Stagg tag, but actually drinkable at full strength!

Comparing the new Chris Stapleton/Harlen Wheatley blended whiskey to OTHER blended American whiskies really isn't fair, as that category has been stuck on the bottom shelf for years, BUT perhaps this new entry at closer to $40 will spark a trend and revive a great American "blending" tradition to reform at the premium price level. At least that's the hope for distillers whose creativity is far more unbound when allowed to combine so many different types to whiskey to come up with a whole better than the sum of it's parts. Traveller is a non-age stated 90 proof blended whiskey with no age statement. The nose is fresh and fruity and inviting with feint vanilla and marshmallow notes with a touch of lemon. On the palate, my guess is some combination of Buffalo Trace ditillate with a decent chunk of vanilla sweet Canadian whiskey. Imagine the love child of Blanton's and Cariboue Crossing at 90 proof and a bit younger. That's why this tastes like with a distinct "blended" whiskey drinkability that will even appeal to a Crown or Johnnie Walker drinker.

This year's William Larue Weller was distilled in the Spring of 2011 and bottled in the Fall of 2023, making it just over 12 years old and bottled at an amazing 133.6 proof. Consider the fact that barrel entry proof is only 114 and that this whiskey was aged on the relatively LOW 2nd and 3rd floors of warehouse C, L, M, and N the angel's must REALLY like this because the barrels lost more than 66% of their original volume. Dark brown sugar and caramel with chocolate covered cherries, maple syrup and a cinnamon roll profile that will make you wonder what the heck happened to the rest of the bottle!

The combination of the realtively young age and high proof make these Handy's sweet and oily with fresh citrus notes and a zing of pine from start to finish. Though young, the the depth of oak mingled with the spice of the distillate is something to behold. On a big rock, the spice settles down and the bright young citrus and pine have their way. Make an Old Fashioned with this if you want to experience the sublime!

Striking the right balance between rye spice and barrel spice, this year's release exhibited smoked meats and smoldering oak fire on the nose with ginger, brine, and orange fruit emerging. On the palate, intensely chewy rye, bready at first, then sharp and textural. This ain't a starter whiskey. The oak is dark, but eventually lets the grain come out and play as you chew. Fruit is obliterated on the finish leaving nothing but a tingling oak sensation. Blockbuster and worthy of the name!

Meticulously blended in a "spare no expense" process that allows the "beer" to drink and age like a combination of fine spirit or fortified wine. High octane yeasts and LOTS of cask babying and blending contribute to the final unique flavor profile. Big initial fruit and malt on the nose.
