Y’ALL. We finally we have a winery in the shop from right here in north Georgia! Not just one that is ‘good for Georgia’, but a winery making seriously great wine, run by awesome folks. Like us, perhaps you have been following the story and progress of up in Cleveland, GA over the last for several years. Well now you can enjoy their wines without leaving Athens! They are bringing their years of experience abroad back to these vineyards, making wine inspired by Europe, but very much an expression of North Georgia’s unique terroir. We have their Albariño, Petit Verdot, and theliterally brand new Emilia (we have the honor of being the first place you can buy this wine), a sparkling red made from Chambourcin that just might be our current fave in the shop right now.

The hits just keep on coming!!
We are so excited to welcome THE Mary Taylor of Mary Taylor wines back to the space for a French Wine Happy Hour on Friday September 20th from 5-7pm!. An innovator when it comes to bringing high quality, responsibly-farmed European wine to the American market at remarkably low prices, Mary Taylor wants us all to be drinking great wine, all the time. France has been a particularly important focus of her career, and on this visit she will be introducing you to 5 new French producers in her roster. As always this will be a casual, drop-in format tasting, no reservations needed. Wines will be available a la carte as 2oz or 5oz pours, and bottles will be available for purchase (yes, this is a great time to stock up for the impending holidays!)

Great news for those that love the vibe of our little wine space after the sun goes down…
Beginning Tuesday, September 10th we will be extending our hours until 10pm, Tuesday-Saturday*! That means more time to shop, as well as more time to enjoy our cozy space with wine and snacks! Plus after 8pm we’ll have special $7 pours, no corkage on retail bottles over $40, and some fun snack specials. Most importantly, the vibes are just stunning in the space after the sun goes down, so there is no better place in Athens to enjoy great wine with friends.
(*Fear not! The Lark is still open seven days a week. We are currently keeping Sunday & Monday hours at 2pm-7pm.)

It’s been a great week for Alsatian wine lovers here at The Lark! New to the shelf (and menu!) are the lovely wines of Vignoble du Rêveur, the personal project of Mathieu Deiss and partner Emmanuelle Milan, a wine power couple exploring biodynamic farming and experimenting with the classic grapes of Alsace on a 7 hectare plot of vines in Binnwihr. These wines are dynamic and delicious, come learn more and pick up a few bottles!

We were beyond thrilled to get our hands on some of the wines from outstanding Alsace producer, Marcel Deiss, and .d.rew wasted no time popping this brilliant Blanc for your Sunday bottle (you lucky folks). A blend of multiple Alsatian grapes, this wine is overall…heavenly.

Another incredible opportunity to engage with a talented winemaker is happening next week!! We are thrilled to welcome Elizma Visser, winemaker for for a tasting takeover on Tuesday August 20th from 5-7pm. Visser makes elegant wines that deeply express the terroir of the Breede River Valley in South Africa. Delicious, soulful wines from some of our favorite grapes, made with low-intervention to the environment. What’s not to love? Pop by to try four different wines, either a la carte by the glass or as a tasting flight! As always, this is a drop-in event, no reservations needed.

Tinned Seafood Shoutout:
We LOVE the Limfjord Cockles from .nordic !
Lots of producers pack cockles in brine, but these come in high quality rapeseed oil, lending a richer, more buttery quality. Eat straight from the tin, enjoy in a pasta, or cook into a soup or chowder. Definitely pair with a crisp white or rosé. Swing by to stock up for the weekend or enjoy at our bar! We’re here today until 8pm.

The easiest way to elevate your modest Monday night pizza? Add a delicious bottle of Queen of the Sierra Coferment! This juicy grown up fruit punch of a wine is a cool blend of red and white grapes that is effortless to enjoy (and goes with a million different foods…or just goes perfectly with beating the heat.).
It just joined the menu, so best plan is to snag a glass and then stock up on bottles!

We are stoked to host Izzy Driscoll of Huia Vineyards for a tasting takeover from 5-7pm. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Mike and Claire Allan in 1996, Huia Vineyards is one of Marlborough’s only producers dedicated to the production of minimal intervention, organically farmed wines. Huia makes wine in a very ’natural’ way; of course, organic viticulture, but also a holistic approach to the whole of the environment and landscape they call home. Sheep and chickens wander through the vines, bees pollinate the wildflowers that grow throughout the property.
AND, they make classically delicious, sound wines from multiple grapes, that are all thirst quenching and perfect for summer. And yes, we will be pouring their Sauvignon Blanc. And it’s outstanding.

As always, this will be a drop-in format tasting, no reservations needed.

We have three classic options on the tasting lineup, and a special and rare Sunday bottle from one of Burgundy’s most exciting natural winemakers (we literally got 3 bottles). There are lots more fun 🇫🇷 wines on the retail wall, so you have no excuse to not drink well today.

Monday Morgon study? Flirt with some Fleurie perhaps?? It’s hot outside, but that doesn’t mean a graceful light red isn’t what the doctor ordered to set your Monday right. And, we recently restocked on some very special Beaujolais producers, which really deserves to be enjoyed year round, not just in November 😉. AND, since on Mondays you can pop bottles without paying the usual $15 corkage, you can enjoy these wines in our cool bar space for an absolute steal. We’re open 2-7pm on Mondays, come by and find your vibe.

We are beyond thrilled to welcome Peter Gönc of for a tasting takeover on Friday, July 12th from 5-7pm!!
We’ve been pouring and praising Gönc since day one at The Lark; you love the wines (sales don’t lie) so now you can come meet the maker behind these wonderful and varied bottles. Peter is a 4th generation winemaker in Slovenia, however his desire to think and work outside of the box is a personal path.
We’ll be pouring 4 wines that represent his multiple projects, available as a flight or a la carte by the glass.
This is a casual drop-in tasting, no reservations required, but marking your calendar and showing up early is highly recommended.

Ice cold bubbly sounds perfect to us on this hot summer day, and we highly recommend this brilliant bottle from Parigot & Richard in Burgundy! Made from 100% Aligoté , it is mineral driven and dry with graceful citrus fruit. Come snag a bottle or two, and hang for a glass while you’re at it, we’re open 2-7pm!

June = Linen and Chenin. All we want to wear, all we want to drink. We’re currently pouring this beautiful Chenin Blanc from . Mineral forward, with juicy nectarine and key lime fruit, it has a lovely texture but still refreshes in this summer heat. You need to come grab some before it’s gone!

Y’all, we are STACKED with STEIN! The temperatures have been rude this week, and we’ve seen your rosé consumption increase accordingly. Get ready, because this insane Mosel rosé has landed in the shop! Made from Pinot Noir and a little of (rare for the valley) Cabernet & Merlot planted to steep slate soils, the ‘23 may be the most electric vintage we’ve tasted. We’re pouring it on the menu while supplies last, and trust us, they won’t last long. Don’t sleep on the Stein Rieslings on the retail wall either; these wines are pure magic 🪄 and will change skeptics into fanatics.

Overnoy-Crinquand Cremant du Jura Rosé! What more do you need to know??! Come hang with Andrew and delight in this special treat for a perfect Sunday afternoon. Made from their younger vine Ploussard, this bubbly is bone dry, mineral forward, and utterly delicious.

We’re all swooning a bit over this new Bardolino in the shop! We love this iconic Italian wine style that has been doing the light and chillable red thing long before it was trendy. La Fraghe was founded by Matilde Poggi in 1984, when it was uncommon to see women running a cantina in Italy. At a time when large, quantity-driven firms and cooperatives dominated local production, she chose to concentrate on quality and pure expression of the region’s unique grapes. This red is vibrant, juicy, fresh (and only $21!!) and perfect for summer 🏖️ It’s going on the menu starting today, come grab a glass and a few bottles for the weekend!

We’ve been spreading a lot of California wine love lately, but we’re also excited to shine a spotlight on some incredible French producers in June! 🇫🇷 Join us Tuesday, June 11th from 5-7pm when we welcome Pierre Gastaldello of Bobo Selections! Pierre is the curator of this special portfolio of natural wines. The name Bobo is inspired by ancient and modern environmentally-conscious Parisian movements, and the wines communicate the soul of their soils and the mentality of the artisans who made them. We’ll be featuring 4 inspiring winemakers from the portfolio, each with a distinct personality, all of them delicious! As always, this tasting takeover is a drop in format, no reservations needed. Wines are available by the glass or in flight format, and bottle sales while supplies last!
