With everyone being back from a holiday weekend, Monday seems like a good day to do our weekly cocktail recipe. This summer we have been making cocktails that honor female literary greats! This week’s cocktail is a shout out to an author that almost all of us know, simply for our required reading from middle school or high school. S.E. Hinton is the author of “The Outsiders”, “That Was Then, This is Now”, “Rumble Fish”, and many others. “The Outsiders” is the book we think of most from this author (or perhaps you think of the 1983 film, featuring alllll the 80s heartthrobs) and is one many of us read in school, which taught us the pointlessness behind violence, and the importance in being true to yourself, innocent, uncorrupted, unblemished, or simply “Staying Gold”. S.E. Hinton began writing that book when she was 15 years old, and was 18 when it was published. Her career continues today, as, the now 76 year old author, still writes today, but has switched to writing more towards younger audiences. An author who has touched so many lives from her writings deserves a good cocktail. So here we go,
The OutCiders
- 1.5 oz of gin (we used )
- 1 oz apple cider
- 0.5 oz simple syrup
- 0.75-1 oz of lemon juice
- Ginger ale
- Apple slice for garnish
Instructions:
In shaker with ice, add gin, apple cider, simple syrup, and lemon juice. Shake until well mixed, strain into glass with fresh ice. top with ginger ale. Garnish with apple slice. Enjoy! 🍎
*this is an excellent cocktail for fall, so keep it tagged for tailgate season!*
