Welcome to Domain Dupont, a young family estate 👨‍👨‍👧spreading over 5 hectares and located in the heart of Burgundy.⠀
⠀
Founded in 2009 by Yves Dupont, the Domain is now managed by his daughter, Delphine, one of the youngest winemakers in the region. ⠀
⠀
Having grown up in the vines, she was educated from the youngest age to the wine making know-how by her father and her grandfather. 🍷⠀
⠀
After winemaking studies in Beaune, she ventured in giving the family estate a second birth as well as a new refreshing pulse after her father retired.⠀
⠀
According to her, "The new vines have potential precisely because they are young. Now they need to age to become denser." 🍇⠀
⠀
Since Delphine is here, Domain Dupont's wines are "more delicate, more pointed, more elaborate." 🇫🇷

Let’s continue our tour of French vineyards! 🍷

Welcome to Domaine Julien Masquin, in Vallée du Rhône. ⠀
⠀
The vineyard, originally composed of a few plots of land, was considerably developed by Paul Masquin in 1936. Two generations after, Julien Masquin, the actual owner, took over the handling of the Domain, in 1998. ⠀
⠀
For ten years, he strove to implement reasoned and reasonable viticulture and finally vinified his first vintages in 2009, which are a subtle balance between tradition and modernity. ⠀
⠀
2017 marks the arrival of a modernised winery that gave a new pulse to vinification and ageing methods.⠀
⠀
Let's zoon in the three star wines of the Domain ! 🌟⠀
⠀
🔴 CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE RED MONTPLAISIR⠀
⠀
The 🍇 Grenache and 🍇 Mourvèdre grapes are planted on the famous terroir of La Crau Est, a terroir made up of rolled pebbles and red clay. The 🍇 Syrah is planted on the sandy soil of the Cassanets, which gives it great finesse.⠀
⠀
The grapes are harvested in small crates and sorted by hand grain by grain after destemming. They are then vatted by gravity in stainless steel tanks for 24 days.⠀
⠀
⚪️ CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE BLANC MONTPLAISIR⠀
⠀
Coming from a unique plot of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc nestled in the heart of the Rayas woods, it is the result of the association of 🍇 Grenache Blanc and 🍇 Bourboulenc. The two wines obtained are then blended to give the Cuvée Montplaisir.⠀
⠀
🔴 CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE RED MEMORA⠀
⠀
The 🍇 Grenache and 🍇 Syrah grapes express themselves fully on this sublime sandy terroir of Pignan and Cassanets. Benefiting from a slight inclination to the East, allowing an optimal ripeness.⠀
⠀
Harvested and sorted by hand, the grapes are blended directly in vats. The harvest is completely de-stemmed and crushed. The vinification, in concrete vats, lasts 21 days, alternating pumping over and delestage to favour the finesse of the tannins!⠀

Vineyards Visits 🍷

Located in the smallest appellation of the Médoc, Moulis-en-Médoc, Château Chasse Spleen is a very singular vineyard. The estate was created after 1855 and could not be included in the imperial classification. It had to wait until 1932 to be classified as a "Grand Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel".

Château Chasse-Spleen is located at the top of the Grand-Poujeaux hillside. The vineyard, not far from the Garonne, benefits from an exceptional terroir.

In addition to the climate and the availability of water, the vines get their water requirements from the clay and limestone subsoil. It is this Medoc terroir, which pushes the vines to perseverance, which provides the density of the juices of the berries.

After nature comes culture. In addition to practising a reasoned culture, Château Chasse-Spleen is certified HVE "High Environmental Value". This certification attests to the good ecological and sanitary practices of the estate. These practices include a commitment to biodiversity, the production and use of renewable energy, the use of the circular economy, etc.

It is in these exceptional conditions that Chasse-Spleen wines are produced. In addition to the grand vin Château Chasse-Spleen, the estate also produces two second wines: L'Héritage de Chasse Spleen (formerly Ermitage de Chasse-Spleen) and L'Oratoire de Chasse Spleen.

The origin of the name Chasse-Spleen is still mysterious. Two anecdotes dating from the 1860s are attributed to it. Some say that this magical name comes from discussions between the mistress of the place, Rosa Ferrière, and her neighbour Odilon Redon. The latter was a symbolist painter and had worked on Baudelaire's Spleen by illustrating Les Fleurs du Mal.
The other hypothesis involves Lord Byron, a British poet, who, during his visit to the château, is said to have said: "This wine has no equal in chasing away dark thoughts".

This love of pretty verses is still present on every bottle today. Indeed, what makes Chasse-Spleen so original is that each vintage is adorned with a quotation on the top of its label.

You were plenty to reserve some wines from Domaine Combier during our last Private Sale! 🍷 let’s discover more about this amazing vineyard!

At Domaine Combier, what is a great wine? It is the fruit of the work done in the vineyard with total respect for the terroir. Because only balanced grapes give harmonious, deep, fresh and fine wines. There is no artifice in the winemaking process, never any advanced extraction. The expression of the fruit must be immediate. "We like joyful and charming wines, and we do not believe in the myth of the wine that must be austere in its youth to be good in its prime: A great wine must be good at the beginning, in the middle and at the end!

"We find the finesse of Pinot Noirs in great Burgundies magical and that's what we want to convey in our wines. We also like them to flow straight." Even if each cuvée keeps its own style, there is always a frankness and this elegance of fruit, aromas and tannins.

A pioneer of organic agriculture in France, Maurice Combier, even if he is considered a madman, has always followed his convictions. Since 1970, when viticulture discovered the "benefits" of technical progress, productivism and clones, he continued to advocate manual work and hard work in the fields. During all his years at the head of the domain, his priority for the respect of the environment and the quality of his fruits will give him a head start to become an example in the Rhône Valley.

The arrival of the younger generations has favored, over the years, the extension of the property to viticulture to the detriment of arboriculture, which now represents only 5 hectares of apricot trees... Since 1990, Laurent has continued the work implemented by his father, David and Julien in turn ask themselves questions to constantly improve their practices. All the plantations and replantings are in massal selection to preserve the typicity of the grape varieties. It's all about balance and precision. Each intervention in the vineyard is adjusted as closely as possible according to the character of the soil, the lunar calendar and the life of the plant. It is Nature that governs each gesture and not the opposite.
