Oktoberfest is upon us! And at Subscribeers Singapore that means it is time to celebrate the 200-year German drinking tradition. This week, we’re featuring beers that were made in response to the pandemic, and German-inspired beers to celebrate at home.

We may not be able to go out as often in these difficult times, but we can still rejoice and celebrate what brings us together – Locally-made and curated craft beers. Happy drinking!

1.) Ren Min - Kiss Kiss, an IPA Milkshake, loaded with fresh mango puree, rounded out with heaps of lactose and dry-hopped with Sabo and Citra hops. We found this to be smooth, and easy to drink. A perfect IPA for the uninitiated, and a great starter for those seeking a spectacular night. ABV: 6.9% | IBU: 24
Kiss Kiss, along with its counterparts (Cloud Chasing, Family Ties and Crowdsurfing), is part of the Future Now! Series, a response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the fundamental joys that have been temporarily taken from us.

2.) Ren Min - Cloud Chasing is a Hazy, Classic New England IPA.
It's full of tropical flavour, dry-hopped with fresh Citra and Talus hops. This IPA is fruit-foward, carrying bouquets of citrusy aromas. Citra is a popularly used hop in New England-style IPAs, and its citrusy essence perfectly complements Cloud Chasing’s fruity, juicy characteristics. Talus hops, a relatively new hybrid hop, brings to the table an alluring mix of sweet fruit and resinous flavours, along with floral, somewhat woody aromas. ABV: 6.8% | IBU: 33

3.) Ren Min - Family Ties is a Vanilla and Cacao Porter.
Made with Mekong Delta Cacao nibs and Madagascan vanilla, this porter is a roasty, chocolatey treat. It strikes a perfect balance between decadence and drinkability- not quite a pastry porter, but appropriate for dessert. We found this to be comparable ABV: 5.6% | 20 IBU

4.) Ren Min - Crowdsurfing is a Session Hazy New England IPA. This hazy ale showcases waves of tropical aromas with a fruity mix of Idaho 7, Citra, and Azacca hops. This all-day IPA delivers the full, satisfying flavours of a bigger IPA in a smaller, more sessionable package.
ABV: 4.5% | IBU: 20

5.) RedDot BrewHouse - Heartlander Ale is a Tropical Session Ale. If you miss traveling, here is your brief respite- Heartlander Ale was made based on experiences gathered through travel. It is juicy, bursting with bold tropical flavours and citrus, bringing forth crisp and refreshing sensations. It is here to remind us, “We do not just travel on planes but we travel with our memories and all.”
ABV: 5% | IBU:

6.) Red Dot Brewhouse - Smoked Maerzen is a Märzen-style beer. It’s rich with malts, complimented by clean, hoppy bitterness. Bringing bready and nutty aromas, with a twist of additional smokiness. Perfect for Oktoberfest, and a great palate cleanser to compliment the citrus and juiciness of this week’s lineup.
ABV: | IBU:

7.) Red Dot Brewhouse - Heartlander Stout was inspired by the process of making Malay Kueh during the downtimes of Singapore’s Circuit Breaker period. Made with roasted coconut, this stout is rich with roasty flavour and bears a unique charred flavour that serves to remind us that roasting brings out the best in coconuts, and we think, of our Singapore spirit as well.
ABV: 5% | IBU:

8.) Specific Gravity Beverage Company - Oktober Festbier is a Märzen-style beer. A German lager style with Bavarian roots, this Märzen lager is brewed using the decoction method, or stepped mash protocol which yields a terrifically malty profile from the Vienna, Munich and Melanoidin malt used, perfect for this season’s celebration. Prost and enjoy!
ABV: 6% | 0 IBU

9.) Civilization Brewing Co.- October Festbier is a Märzen-style beer. Oktoberfest season is upon us! In the name of the 200 year German drinking celebration, Civilization Brewing has decided upon bringing forth their very own Oktoberfest style. At 6.1% ABV, this light-coloured lager brings forth a slightly malty, biscuity flavour that goes smooth with a floral finish.
ABV: 6.5% | IBU: 22

10.) Brewerkz- Oktoberfest is a Malty Amber Lager. A deep-amber delight that highlights an enticing biscuit bread crust aroma and hazelnut overtones. It has a rich, malty body and finishes with a sweet and balanced bitter aftertaste.
ABV: 5.3% | IBU: 22

Hi Subscribeers! Here is the list of your tasty craft beers this month!

1) Carbon Brews - Baby Rich Lupulins is a Session Hazy IPA
We were especially impressed that they managed to pack so much flavour into a Session beer. ABV: 3.9% | IBU: 15
Drinks like a 6% , packed full of fruity hops, juicy and super easy drinking.

2) Carbon Brews - Feels Good Man is an American Pale Wheat, Aromas of citrus, cardamon spice and orange peel. On the palate grapefruit, lemon and orange zest dominate to give a crisp and super refreshing wheat beer.

3) Monkami Rice Lager 米釀啤酒– Moonzen Brewery
A clean pale golden lager brewed with Junmai Daiginjo sake rice. Light bodied, crisp and refreshing, this beer has a pleasant dryness balanced by light maltiness and a mild citrus hop bitterness.
Japanese Hybrid Malted Barley + Junmai Daiginjo Rice Sake Lager
Polishing Rate: 50%
Rice Grain: Hitomebore

When we first tasted this beer, we were excited as most of the rice lagers didn't use such high grade rice. We were not disappointed at all. Very smooth and crisp.

4) Moonzen Brewery Hainan Cocoweizen

Bask in a tropical paradise with this refreshing Hainan-inspired Hefeweizen.

5) White Peach & Oolong Session IPA- TAI WAI BEER
This session IPA is brewed with fresh peach and Oolong tea leaves, boasting a harmonious blend of hoppy, maltiness, light sweet peach aroma with the bright notes of Oolong and fruits profile from hops.

Iis a refreshing yet with complex flavour tea beer that can be enjoyed in all seasons.

When we hear about tea beers, we are normally quite sceptical as it's not easy to find a well-brewed tea beer. Balancing the tannins from the teas is a difficult task. This was quite well done!

6) Ren Min Progression
Progression is a balanced, hop-forward IPA with a malty backbone and subtle hints of grapefruit, nutmeg, and black pepper. Ren Min used Magnum, Amarillo, and Centennial hops in this brew. A carefully selected mix of four grains was also used, though Pilsner malts account for almost 90-percent of the bill. American-style IPAs tend to average somewhere in the neighbourhood of 55 to 70 IBUs, or International Bitterness Units, so at 29 IBUs Progression is considerably less bitter than many of its American counterparts.

We have been trying to get in touch with Manbeer since we've heard of this new brewery, and here it is! This first batch is brewed in Sicily, Italy, while they setup their new facility here in Singapore.

7) Renmin Aerodrome
Brewed at Birrificio Alveria in Sicily, Italy, under Ren Min's direction, Aerodrome is a bright, citrusy 4.7% ABV ale fermented with a special Norwegian farmhouse yeast called Voss Kviek and dry-hopped with Mosaic. The yeast, however, is the star of this beer’s show, coaxing refreshing hints of marmalade, fresh orange, and lemon into Aerodrome’s fruit-forward flavour profile. This yeast has been passed down between generations of farmhouse brewers in and around Voss, Norway, and has only recently found its way into experimental craft breweries around the world. Ren Min is thrilled to be one of them.

8) Young Master 少爺啤 再來 Another One
Crushable, juicy and refreshing, you will always want another one of this delightful session ale.
AWARD LIST:
2021 AUSTRALIA INTERNATIONAL BEER AWARDS - BRONZE
2020 ASIA BEER CHAMPIONSHIP - CHAIRMAN'S SELECTION
2020 CATHAY PACIFIC HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL WINE & SPIRIT COMPETITION - BEST PALE ALE
2020 CATHAY PACIFIC HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL WINE & SPIRIT COMPETITION - GOLD
2019 ASIA BEER CHAMPIONSHIP - BRONZE
2019 AUSTRALIA INTERNATIONAL BEER AWARDS - BRONZE
2018 ASIA BEER CHAMPIONSHIP - SILVER

9) Young Master 少爺啤 Classic Pale Ale
A true classic that won’t ever go out of fashion. The Classic is designed to be versatile – you can drink this all day and in all seasons.
We’ve taken careful measures to create an elegant balance of malts and hops in this pale ale. The result is just enough malty richness, paired with a thirst-quenching blend of North American and Australian hops.

We employ late additions and dry hopping to bring out its delightful fruity, floral and zesty.

ABV: 5.0%
IBU: 35

10) Sweetwater IPA
This mammoth IPA is defined by generous quantities of juicy American hops. The extensive dry hopping process contributes to its bright and flavorful character. This beer is unfiltered to leave all the natural flavors intact and bottle conditioned to stay super fresh. ABV 6.3%

Dear Subscribeers, here are your January Singapore Craft Beers! Happy 2021!

1) The 1925 Brewing Co., - Great Expectations 2021
Bursting with bubbles and excitement, this brew represents our hope and expectations for 2021. Crisp, dry and fruity, this effervescent beer resembles a champagne, perfect for celebrating a new hope and a better year. With bright citrusy and tropical fruit aromas, this light beer is easy to drink and will fill you with positivity, optimism and something to look forward to.

This beer was brewed in collaboration with creative agency 72andSunny Singapore.

2) Sunbird Brewing Company- Eclipse of the Sun Scotch Ale
Had a chat last night with a fellow beer lover, who proclaims that this is his favorite beer from Sunbird.

Scottish ales are strong ales, also known as "wee heavy". Traditionally, it goes through a long boil in the kettle for a caramelization of the wort. This produces a deep copper to brown in colour brew. It is sweet and full bodied with a much more pronounced malty caramel and roasted malt flavour.

3) Sunbird Brewing Company- After Midnight Sangria Ale
A surprise and unexpected addition, this Sangria Beer in a bottle (ABV 5%) is a perfect marriage between Pale Ale and Red Wine with the wonders of Cinnamon, Vanilla, Peach and Grapefruit. Crisp, refreshingly sweet and full of juicy citrus flavour.

4) Civilization Brewing Co. - Civilization Vienna Lager
Here is our salute to a legend in the beer world: Franz Anton Dreher, creator of the Vienna Lager! With this homage style, we hope to and place when malt was being revolutionized. Dreher's innovation brought English drum roasting techniques together with the traditional lagers of Continental brewing. The result is the beer you now hold, proudly displaying the flavors of caramel Vienna malt with exceptionally clean finish. Cheers to you, Mr Dreher!

5) Off Day Beer Company Pale
Familiar, Citrus, Malty. Our Pale Ale Embraces Your Tastebuds With A Gentle Toasty Maltiness Before A Touch Of Citrusy Hops Wakes The Palate Up. The Balanced Nuances Puts Your Part Time Yoga Instructor To Shame.

6) Off Day Beer Company Easy IPA.

Bright, tropical, crisp.

Knock back, relax, switch off to switch on later. You deserve this.

Our flagship beer is bright. Nope, it is not luminescent, but it has the crispness of a Pilsner melded with aromatic fruity American hops. Easy on the palate, it is a great all-purpose beer for those looking for a refreshing change

7) Rye & Pint Brewery Punchin
PUNCHIN' RYE is brewed together with quality Pale Ale and Rye malts to create a sweet and malty beer. It has a prominent passionfruit flavour with a touch of spiciness. This smooth finish beer leaves you with a hoppy aftertaste. A bread-like brew takes the cake!

8) Rye & Pint Brewery Poppin
Kick back and enjoy a juicy IPA!
Loaded with mango & pineapple flavours from dry hopping (Citra, Cascade & Mosaic), Poppin' haze is your tropical brew in a glass!

9) RedDot BrewHouse Singapore Sling Ale
What could get more local than a local craft beer brewed as a tribute to the most famous Singapore cocktail, the Singapore Sling?

The Singapore Sling is a gin-based sling cocktail from Singapore. This long drink was developed sometime before 1915 by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon, who was working at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore.

Expect the nuances of the familiar flavors of this cocktail, with a craft beer twist.

10) WildBrew Creature of Habit pale ale
Tropical, hoppy and slightly bitter. Wild Brew's Pale Ale is bold and mightily malty. The selected hop blend gives a juicy mouthful of stone fruits (think peaches, mango, lychee, apricot) and tropical fruits like passionfruit.

Called the Creature of Habit for its drinkability and the fact that you'll be having (at least) one a day.

Cheers!

Every single one of these beers are seasonal, limited edition brews. Merry Christmas everyone!

1) Sunbird Chocolate Mint Stout
The bright, intoxicating aromatics of the chocolate and mint emanating from this smooth-drinking milk stout are palpable. From the creamy, frothy head on top to the semi-sweet, slightly dry finish, the Sunbird Brewing Company team couldn’t have whipped up a better recipe for this extra-special time of year!

2) The General Brewing Company - Jam Packed IPA
If you enjoyed their Chocolate Dinosaur Stout in our previous package, you will love this IPA. Delightful biscuity malt base with smooth yet assertive hoppiness. Expect a blend of pineapple and mango flavours layered with pithy bitterness.

3) Brewerkz Sentosa Series - Fort Siloso Chocolate Vanilla Porter
“Beer that tastes like rich stories of the past.”
Built by the British Empire back in 1879, Fort Siloso is now our nation’s last remaining preserved coastal fort. It was designed to ward off a seafront attack. This English-styled Porter is an homage to the British defence of Singapore in World War II. Velvety in texture with a rich chocolatey flavour and hints of coffee and vanilla notes.

4) Brewerkz Sentosa Series - Bukit Manis Jasmine Kolsch
“Beer that tastes like sunset and zen.”
Inspired by the lush nature and wellness sanctuaries of Sentosa – Bukit Manis is the path to rejuvenation away from the bustling city life. Embark on a journey through hidden gems and indulge in true relaxation and pampering. Crisp, sparkling and slightly fruity with the aromatic hint of jasmine.

5) Level33 Bohemian Pilsner
Another seasonal from Level33, we are huge fans of their craft brews.
Refreshing. Crisp. Bitter Tones. Floral Hoppy Aroma
Inspired by the first Pilsner developed in 1842 in the city of Plzeñ (Pilsner), this clear golden beer is brewed using Saaz noble hops & pale malts.

6) LeVeL33's 10th Anniversary Special Brew: HOPPY 10
This year marks LeVeL33 10th anniversary! And, on this special occasion, our resident brewmaster, Gabriel Garcia, has brewed a special beer using 10 different hops from all over the world.
Hoppy 10 is a light-bodied beer with citrus & pine notes on the palette and hints of peach aroma. This flavourful and aromatic beer is now available on tap & for takeaway.

7) Brewerkz Sentosa Series - Tanjong Rimau Yuzu Nutmeg Witbier
“Beer that tastes like the sea and its breeze.”
One of Singapore’s best-kept secrets, Tanjong Rimau is a coastal headland at the western tip of Sentosa. Rich in marine life, natural reefs and even hidden caves – perfect for an adventure with nature. This is a classic wheat beer with hints of nutmeg and coriander and a citrusy yuzu aroma.

8) Brewerkz Sentosa Series - Siloso Beach Lime Sea Salt Gose
“Beer that tastes like chill island vibes.”
Renowned for being the hippest beach on Sentosa, Siloso Beach is a place to head to for fun-loving people both day and night, with a wide sandy beach lined with water sports and the trendiest bars and restaurants. A refreshing Gose brewed with sea salt and kaffir lime. Zesty flavours and hints of herbal sourness and salt.

9) The 1925 Brewing Co X Crust - Kaya Toast Stout
KAYA TOAST STOUT is brewed using surplus fresh bread provided by Redmart. Kaya Toast Stout is a collaboration beer proudly brewed locally by The 1925 Brewing Co. and Crust. Enjoy the sweet aromas of pandan and coconut, followed by the light caramel profile of bread and creaminess and roasted notes of the stout. A traditional dish served non-traditionally, this beer is essentially a Singaporean breakfast in a bottle!

You had us at kaya.

10) Red Dot Whiskey Oak Barley Wine
If you enjoyed their Muscovado Tripel, this will intoxicate you in a good way too.
A rare style for a local microbrewery to produce, this limited edition Christmas brew has maltiness, toffee and caramel with a medium to rich body.

09/11/2020

Hi Subscribeers! Here are your November tasting notes – some very interesting limited edition collaborative brews this month!

1) Beer Farm/ SST Asam Boi Sour Plum Gose
Looking for a true taste of Asia, Beer Farm and Smith Street Taps mixed the unique sweet and salty character of Asam boi or salted plums with our kettle-soured Berlinner Weiss.

The resulting beer is a true taste of Asia in an Australian made beer. A redolent deep orange with a dense rocky head, sweet complex aroma and an evocative and intriguing sugary, sweet, salty, fruity and sour palate. Perfect for a humid Singapore afternoon.

2) Red Dot x Pedro Brewcrafters Muscovado Tripel (SG x Philippine)
This collaborative Belgian Tripel is interesting because of the use of muscovado, in Portuguese açúcar mascavado, a type of partially refined to unrefined sugar with a strong molasses content and flavour, used in the manufacture of rum.

3) Sunbird Halloween Party Blood Orange IPA
A refreshing IPA with balanced bitterness, the blood orange shines through the hoppiness of this beer.

4) Thirsty Asia Golden Ale
The Singapore Golden Ale is crafted to be refreshing like a Lager but aromatic like an Hopped ale yet not too bitter to suit the Asian’s palate.
Refreshingly crisp, aromatic with melon notes, light fruitiness.

5) Alive! Brewing One Night in Cologne Kolsch
One Night in Cologne is a Kolsch style ale originating from the beautiful city of Cologne, Germany. It is malty and bready with delightfully light fruit and floral notes.

6) Civilization Brewing Weiss
This beautiful beer has has notes of banana bread, and bubblegum, cloves. Brewed in the 1516 Germany Purity Law tradition with only German Malt, German Hops and German Yeast.

7) Fountain Dunkel
I was curious when I found out the brewery at Snow City had rebranded.
This Dunkel is a roasty version of the classic dark German lager, and is very sessionable.
Bold and enigmatic, with a powerful aroma of coffee, chocolate and caramel.
The Dark Spring dunkel is heavily roasted and full of confidence.
A small sip will wake you up - to a different idea of what a beer can be.

😎 Red Dot chocolate coconut baltic porter
The Baltic-style Porter is a smooth, cold-fermented and cold-lagered beer brewed with lager yeast.
Rich and satisfying, great with prime rib and aged gouda.

9) 1925 Heart Of Stone
Another collaborative beer for November, 1925 brewed this dark ale with
Mushroom Cordyceps from a Singapore company. At 5.5%, it warms the cockles of our hearts.
Cordyceps has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries to treat fatigue, sickness, kidney disease and low s*x drive.

10) 1925 BaXian Tea Lager
This limited edition lager is brewed to celebrate our heritage. We brewed this lager using only the best dancong oolong tea, 八仙 (ba xian); a leaf that is only served to the most distinguished guests.

The lager is light and refreshing to taste with a heady aroma and notes of osmanthus flowers, nectarine and honey. Taking a sip of this divine brew is certainly like flying in heaven’s garden together with the legendary Eight Immortals.

Hi Subscribeers

here is your October selection of Singapore Craft Beers.

1) Monster Green Lager - RedDot BrewHouse
One of our personal favourites from Red Dot.
Green spirulina infused lager beer. Sparkling green, noble hopped, clean and crisp with hints of malt.
The description according to their website - it strengthens the immune system and eliminates AIDS virus.

2) Weizen - RedDot BrewHouse

A typical German-style wheat beer, Weizen is fruity, spicy, cloudy straw and flavourful. Noble hopped with subtle bitterness. Showcasing vanilla, spice and fruit notes.

3) Alt-O - Düsseldorf Altbier - Binjai Brew
Binjai Brew – named after NTU’s Binjai Hall where three engineering students started their beer-making journey, they have come a long way since.

Altbier is a style of beer brewed in the historical region of Westphalia and around the city of Düsseldorf, Germany. Its name comes from it being top-fermented, an older method than the bottom fermentation of other lager beers. This ale is darker in color, coffee-like bitterness, nutty caramel flavours.

4) Plan B - Passionfruit Milkshake IPA - Binjai Brew
With a thick and heavy mouthfeel, hazy golden hue, balanced passionfruit aroma, this interesting IPA is sure to delight your tastebuds.

5) B Hazy - NE IPA - Binjai Brew
We love the arty design of this can. This New England IPA is medium bodied, hazy golden hue, with intense fruity flavours.

6) Hammerhead West Coast IPA - WildBrew
With a tagline "Drink beer. Save Wildlife." How could anyone refuse?

The HAMMERHEAD WEST COAST IPA is a gentle beast that guarantees your danky, dry, bitter West Coast IPA flavours all in a dangerously easy going, day sipper.

7) Oktoberfest Amber Lager - Brewerkz
This exquisite seasonal brew is a deep amber delight with biscuity bread crust aroma and hazelnut overtones, malty rich palette and a balanced bitter aftertaste.

8) Circuit Breaker - Brewerkz
Celebrate making it through the Circuit Breaker, and hopefully Phase 3 comes soon!
‘Circuit Breaker Hazy Pale Ale’, a new take on traditional pale ale brewed with heaps of oats and wheat for a silky mouthful. With chockfull of juicy, fruity flavours like mango, grapefruit and passionfruit.

9) Rose Oolong Tea Pale Ale - Sunbird Brewing Company
Brewed exclusively in limited batches, a fascinating blend inspired by the versatility of tea leaves. The fragrance of crushed rose buds and rare-orchid infused with exquisite oolong tea leaves handpicked from the Wuyi High Mountain. This harmonises a generous fruity and rose perfume with woody and floral notes that is intense, complex but yet well-balanced.

10) A Day in August - Alive Brewing Co & Brewlander
Day in August is a collaboration beer between local brewers - Brewlander and Alive Brewing. This “rojak” (mixed) style of an ale was created to reflect the rich mixed cultures that represents Singapore, taking inspiration from the different spices and ingredients used in our daily meals.

Loosely based on the witbier style, the beer was made with mixed strains of wild yeast that ferments best at Singapore’s ambient temperature to create interesting tropical fruit flavours. Kaffir lime zest, black pepper corn, coriander seeds were added into the mix to create beautiful soft layers of flavours. Expect refreshing citrus from the kaffir lime, followed by a pleasant mix of subtle spices, and rounded off with a pillowy texture.

Cheers to the quality breweries featured this month!
