WINE CIRCLE - A LAST HURRAH!

Well the time is here. The new owners take over in a few days and we want to make it as easy as possible by having clear shelves for them to fill with their goodies.

Spirit lovers you are in for a treat with over 200 Single Malt Whiskies coming with the new owners among other things.

So to help them do this..........

From today we have got 20% OFF EVERYTHING ongoing until the changeover (beer, spirits, wines - it's all got to go!) IN STORE ONLY.

Wine Circle closes for refurbishment and for the new owners to take over on Saturday June 16th at 5 pm.

Needless to say, but these wines and spirits will not be re-stocked, expect the best stuff to go first, so grab it while it is on the shelf!!

Imagine 20% off Craggy Range Sophia, 20% off Dry River, 20% off all spirits, even 20% off Ouzo, It's all a steal. You won't get another chance like this.

Finally I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported us and made the last 12 years a pleasure. It's been a blast (with good wines).

The loyalty program and all outstanding vouchers are suspended until further notice. In store only.

I pity a fool that doesn't drink Calvados! This beautiful Apple Brandy from Calvados Château du Breuil is impeccable. Lovely notes of baked apples and muscavado sugar on the nose. Smooth and just right as a cure for the slight chill in the air

Simple label. Complex wine. Just the way we like it.

Another cracker from Quinta da Romaneira. Their pure Touriga Nacional is brooding and delicious. Lots of dark plum, baking spice, and cocoa notes on the nose. Ready to go now with a quick decant or will sit happily in your cellar for a while too.

FREE FRIDAY TASTING:

A bit of Douro Tinto fun!

I still remember a few years getting a call from Jennifer Kush to tell me about the Chasing Harvest wines, her winemaking venture that she has along with her husband Michael. She was calling in transit to NZ from an airport in Chicago, where they are based if not amongst a vineyard. Before you knew it they were up to see me pouring their wines. At that time they just made Central Otago Pinot Noir, they've since expanded their commercial selection to include wines from the Douro. All of their wines are very small batch and truly delicious!

Connal's latest note: "Traditional Douro blend of Tinta Roriz Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Rich and sumptuous, with oodles of dark fruits, blackberries and a lovely 'baked earth' hint. Well structured and great value."

This great wine will be on tasting Friday from 5pm to 7pm, so get down here and we'll see you later to try it.

Who says Riesling can't age and turn in to something truly delicious? Because this wine will change your mind if you were ever part of the above school of thought. The Memento Riesling 2012 from Seresin is so good right about now!

Lime sorbet, lemon tart, cooked peaches, hints of fresh mango and pineapple in there too. Zippy on the palate with decent weight. Lovely!

Only a few more bottles though so get in quick. http://bit.ly/2GHeqPh

Loving this Albarino from Nelson greats Neudorf Winery! It is racy with some lime, slate, and fresh white nectarine notes. Hints of apple and mandarin on the finish, too.

Excellent drinking. Got yours yet? http://bit.ly/2Fv6Vf9

Starting to write up the Wine Bar's list for the event. You'll find this little cutie from there on Saturday! Her name is Kripta and she's been described by Robert Parker as "like drinking clouds" (I prefer liquid heaven.. But you get the idea).
Yes it's a Cava but nothing like the stuff you find in floor stacks in the supermarket. Kripta is to Cava what Dom Perignon is to Champagne. Hand disgorged with over 7 years on lees. From some of the oldest vines in the Cava region. So pumped to have this on the bar!

Who's going to pop over and have a drink? Got your tickets yet? If not, what are you waiting for?!?! Link in bio - you know what to do 😎🍷

World of Wine Festival - just a month to go

Most of you have probably seen our previous posts about The World of Wine Festival and thought 'Oh yeah that looks like fun we should totally go' and thought you'd get tickets closer to the time. WELL it is just over a month away now so it is time to get your tickets to this amazing event.

We are very very proud to be a part of this great event. It is not just about sharing the goodness and love for wine or about tasting your way through a bit of liquid geography but to be an opportunity to learn about wines. Never in NZ's history has this many bottles from around the world been open in one place for consumers to taste their way through. There are over 140 wines from 14 countries to taste through! (I mean seriously... can you even name 14 wine producing countries without using google?)

There are excellent opportunities to learn about specific wines/regions in more depth by the expert-led Master Classes that take place over the two days. Winemakers and MWs are flying in from around the globe to take you through some incredible wines. These Master Classes are also only $25 OR only $20 when bought with a GA ticket!!

Atop of this your ticket includes FREE tastings of all of the wines (none of those pesky tokens) and a FREE Riedel wine glass (RRP $25)! For all of that it is just $60/pp!

Given the calibre of the wines and the range we honestly think that this is probably the best value wine tasting event in NZ's annual calendar!

Dates are Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of May. 12-6pm. The venue is AUT's Auckland City campus opp. the Auckland Art Gallery.

Get your tickets through the event's website right HERE: https://bit.ly/2BMyLRF

9 years young. We recently pulled a few bottles of this wine out of the cellar as we had some customers interested in aged dessert wines. You really can't look past this 2009 Château de Rayne-Vigneau. Loaded with creme caramel, baked apricots, lemon tart, and candied honeysuckle. Luscious and lively on the palate. Plenty of age left in her yet.

Literally two bottles left. Are you going to be the lucky one? http://bit.ly/2EYVjTR

Pulled out this legend from the cellar. Hello Weingut Dönnhoff - a leader of quality German Riesling. His terroir-focused Rieslings from the Nahe region are known the world over as being some of the best examples of this alluring grape varietal.

This is a wine for all! A white wine made from Verdicchio from northern Italy. It is fresh and full of beautiful fruit and floral notes. The aromatics of a Pinot Grigio, the body of an un-oaked Chardonnay and the complexity of a Riesling. What isn't there to love about this wine?

FREE FRIDAY TASTING:

Cooler evenings call for Port!

There is nothing quite like a nice Port to keep you company on those cooler nights. We know that it isn't 'that' cold just yet - that is when Whiskey is called for - yet it is starting to settle in nicely in Auckland during the evenings. A small tot of Port probably wouldn't go astray after dinner and dessert. The Quinta da Romaneira Fine Ruby Port (aptly named) is just the cure for all of this!

Connal's latest note: "A good robust Ruby Port, with lots of concentration of plums, milk chocolate and earthy spice. The acidity is balanced and it is not too sweet. A great Ruby that will rival many LBV Ports."

This great wine will be on tasting Friday from 5pm to 7pm, so get down here and we'll see you later to try it.
