New In: Kilchoman 100% Islay 14th Edition 🥃

Distilled from the farm distillery's 2013 and 2014 publican barley harvests, this dram was matured for nine years in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks at a ratio of 9:1, before being bottled on site at 50% abv. Expect notes of caramelised sugar, peat smoke and pineapple.

In our Whiskeria magazine Autumn 2024 issue, we highlight the endeavours of two recipients of the Scott Dunn Award, a prize founded in remembrance of the much-missed manager of over Inverness shop, who passed away suddenly in 2021.

The award is presented to support staff members in their chosen entrepreneurial pursuit. With the prize, Minnie Parmiter (former staff member at The Whisky Shop Victoria Street in Edinburgh) purchased a 5-litre still with which she perfected the recipe of her very own gin, Copper Lion Gin.

She said: "It's a whisky drinker's gin. It has got the complexities, balance and nature of a single malt."

Customer Favourite: Hatozaki 12 Year Old Umeshu Cask Finish 💫

Named after Japan's oldest lighthouse, which resides in Akashi harbour, this twelve-year-old Hatozaki hails from the Kaikyo Distillery. The expression is made up of small batch single malts that have all been aged for at least 5 or 6 years. The blended malt was then filled into American oak casks, where it slumbered for twelve years, including a 6-month finish in Umeshu casks - a sweet and sour Japanese liqueur made from ume plums.

New In: Tomatin 12 Year Old Sherry Cask 🍷

Fully matured in first fill sherry casks for 12 years, this Tomatin Single Malt is wonderfully smooth and easy-drinking. Caramelised apple and pear lead, balanced with a wonderful mix of sultana, orange peel, apricot and hints of aged leather. Deeper on the palate with notes of chocolate fudge and manuka honey, along with dried fruit and nut. The finish is warm and round with a sweet, cinnamon spice.

New In: Casamigos Mezcal 🦈

This joven (unaged) mezcal is distilled from 100% Espadin agave by a family of fourth-generation mezcaleros in Oaxaca, Mexico, using the artisanal method. Once harvested, the piñas are split and laid to cook for 4-6 days in earthen pits lined with volcanic or river rock, before being crushed with a Tahona wheel. The spirit is double-distilled, and boasts a fruity, herbal and slightly smoky palate.

Edradour 10YO Cask Strength Sherry.

It never rains in Manchester, it soaks.

During these rather turbulent times in weather and running around for early Christmas presents, it's nice to have something to treat yourself with.

We get asked for Edradour a lot, so now we have our own cask of 683 bottles, bottled just under 60% ABV with it's all natural colour, it is truly captivating to look at as well as taste.

This is the true definition of a 'sherry bomb', and for any of you who are into that style it is worth dropping by to see us to check the bottle out, to try it, and then to take one home for this intense winter time.

The Isle of Harris Distillery's first ever bottle of whisky has landed back in Manchester and is ready go home into the hands of drinkers and collectors alike.

A combination of ex-bourbon, ex-oloroso, and ex-fine sherry casks, bottled at 46% ABV with no colouring or chill filtration - it has everything you want from a distillery made famous by its gin, but is now firmly planting its foot in the whisky side of the business, too.

Glenallachie 21YO Batch 4.

This things never stick around long enough to get on the shelf, but we've managed to secure one for the shop!

Billy Walker's legend is undisputed when it comes to sherry cask maturation. The man is the King Midas of fortified wine.

Since purchasing Glenallachie, his older releases have been coming out thick and fast, but the 21YO has been a special part of his short, but eventful history at Glenallachie.

Cementing his hold on this distillery with this luscious, heavily sherried liquid is something that any drinker or collector is in need of on their shelf.

The Final Chapter.

Say hello to the final appearance in the Ian Hunter Series from Laphroaig. A 34YO single malt, matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry oak casks, retaining that classic Laphroaig flavour all the way through three and half decades of maturation.

This series has been a pleasure to see when it comes to Islay whiskies. Not only do we have the history of Ian Hunter, one of the most important people in Laphroaig's history, but we've also been able to see some of the oldest and most unique bottles of Laphroaig in their official packaging.

We've only received three of these bottles, and due to how quickly Book 4 sold through, we don't think these will be around for long. Old Isaly whisky isn't always the easiest thing to come across, let alone with such a unique story and packaging as this.

NEW ISLAY RELEASES

A double-header of two rather potent release by Loch Fyne from the ever famous isle of Islay.

A Williamson 7YO single cask release, bottled at 53% ABV and one of only 277 bottles from a refill Bourbon cask. For those of you in the know, Williamson has always been code for arguably the most famous distillery from Islay. A distillery that can even divide drinkers of peated whisky.

This thing is a little powerhouse bottling with all of the punch and flavour that you would come to expect from this distillery.

Bruichladdich. A distillery more famous for it's punk approach to everything, this bottle being no different. Fully matured for twelve years in a Rivesaltes wine cask, bottled at 63% ABV and one of only 397 bottles, this is a rather unique product. Bruichladdich have a wealth of fun cask maturations across their warehousing, but it's often used as a vatting part of The Classic Laddie, limited edition releases of Port Charlotte, or within their Octomore range. Here you have the chance to try it in it's rawest, most potent form.

PLATINUM BEN NEVIS 31YO.

Trying to find older Ben Nevis is a fun problem for most whisky retailers to have. The distillate has so much character and power that it's often drank at a younger age. However, this example of Hunter Laing's Platinum range is a jewel in the crown of The Ben Nevis distillery.

An older and rather complex style of west coast mainland single malt that was fully matured in an Oloroso sherry butt for it's whole life, bottled at 62.1% ABV and had an out run of 540 bottles.

Expect some full and rich fruit notes with the more classical backdraft of Ben Nevis smoke and west coast salinity. The perfect product for any collector or drinkers shelf, this kind of whisky isn't the easiest thing to come across.

One of our favourites has switched it up!

Luckily the liquid inside is still the same, and as tasty as ever! But Maker's 46 now has a bottle that fits in with the rest of the range.

For those of you that didn't know, Maker's 46 is classic Maker's Mark bourbon with a twist. A few months worth of finishing with additional French oak staves for a bigger, rounder, more indulgent flavour profile from one of our most beloved Kentucky distilleries.
