Remember, remember the 5th of November. Well, I didn't. Just realised it's the shop's birthday. 12 years! Thank you to everybody who has kept me going in lovely Crediton. That's a good excuse to open one of my favourite wines from the Naughty Room, Ver Sacrum Mencia. No oak, just pure gorgeous fruit from this Mendozan number.

So the door may be shut because the scaffolders think the Saturday morning is a good time to block the pavement, but I am open!!! There are some lovely new wines from Hungary, Argentina, California, and Bordeaux to explore....

One of the best tastings of the year done. Thank you, , that's some fantastic wines tasted and a quick flit to the British Museum to see some old stuff. Now home to see what works in the cold light of day. Surprisingly the shop is actually open tomorrow!!!

The shop is shut this Tuesday and Wednesday as I finish my tour of tastings to find exciting new wines for the shop and bar. Have already found these brilliant tawny ports and Douro still wines which are also great value for money. Let's see what else is out there....

I was in these vineyards a couple of weeks ago, and am really pleased to find such a good Tavel Rose. Organic, rich, and full of flavour but with a lightness and balance which holds it together. A cracking Autumn rose, for food or with a good conversation.

Busy day in London. Three tastings, RHS Lyndley Hall, Gordon Ramsey's, Institute of Directors. Some lovely wines and busy tube trains. Amazingly I managed to not get the train to Carlisle and am back in Devon....

What's new this week? Well, there's a banging organic Douro, Minas Murcas, bold but really well balanced. Spring Theory is an IPA Lager hybrid, sounds weird tastes lovely. Finally we are joined by 'Mr Wiffy' today. Despite two showers, whatever he has rolled in is still there with a balancing aroma of lime. Apologies in advance.

Two days to go. Thanks to a very talented young man (who happens to be genetically related to me), the shop isn't as chaotic as normal. #shoplocal

So the bar is beginning to get there. Just a few wines by the glass are ready for you.....plus beer cider and ale of course. Amapola will officially open on Friday 24th November. We will probably be in chaos, but we are going to open Thursday to Saturday 5pm to 11pm. Reservations can be done by phoning the shop, 01363 777719 or messaging on the page Amapola Wine Bar .

Whoop whoop I am off on Holiday! Luckily the customer service is going up a notch and the brilliant Ben is looking after the shop.
