Hi,All my favourite people
Just a update on our latest vist to the Suffolk coast, I have labelled some of the pictures and will give a brief summary of each place, starting with Woodbridge, which is my hone town the ye old Bell and Stellyard is were I fell in the fire on a Christmas eve (early days of drinking).
WOODBRIDGE is a port town of east Suffolk it is 8 miles up the River Deben from the sea it lies 7 miles from Ipswich and around 74 miles from London. The town is close to some major archaeological sites or the Anglo Saxon period, including the Sutton Hoo burial ship and had 35 households at the time of the Domesday Book of 1086,it is well known for its boating harbour and tide mill,it has been named the best place to live in the East of England.
Aldeburgh with the port of Dunich, Just down the coast, Aldeburgh was a small and relatively insignificant fishing village until rthe 1500s when it became a prominent port and home to a growing shipbuilding industry. The flagship of the Virginia company, the sea vent, and two of SIr Francis Drakes most famous ships, the Greyhound and the Golden Hind were also built here. In more recent history Aldeburgh became the first English town to elect a female Mayor in 1908 and was of course, famously the home of composer Benjamin Britten.
THORPENESS
The small village of Thorpeness is dominated by the mere, which is popular all year round and bears witness to the village's fantastical past.. In 1919 Stuart Ogulvie bought the hamlet and set to transform it into a private fantasy holiday village. Today the village is just how Ogilvie envisaged it with pretty mock Tudor houses and the fairytale House in the Cloulds, along with a boating lake.
DUNICH
In the Middle ages the village was a thriving port the size of London, but a massive storm in 1286 swept away the monastery, along with many homes and other buildings
WALBERSWICK
Lies on the south bank of the River Blyth,a short ferry ride across from Southwold. The ferry, which transports people across the Blyth in the summer months, is rowed by the fifth generation of the same family.
I Hope the above was a little insight to the area.
Missing you all,

Yes it's true!! Clive and Angela (Mr and Mrs Shopkeeper) are retiring!!

We would both like to say a big thank you to all our customers and staff who have been so supportive over the last 40 years.
It's felt like one large family and we have had a lot of laughs and fun over the years. We have seen newspaper boys/girls grow up and now having their own families.
The shops will continue and we would like to take this opportunity to wish Suresh every success.
We will still be about and be supportive of any local functions so please keep in touch.
Once again, many thanks for making our work so enjoyable.
Take care and good health to you all.

Clive's last day will be Saturday 16th September so please come along to say goodbye if you can.
