Our Famous Face bust of Emmeline Pankhurst, remembering her whilst many local elections are going on. Pankhurst was a leading figure of the suffragette movement, and is an incredibly important part of British history who helped women win the right to vote.

On this day in 1923, 100 years ago to the day, the tomb of Tutankhamun, ancient Egyptian pharaoh, was unsealed and entered by British archaeologist Howard Carter. Inside, the archaeologists found Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus, alongside a whole host of ancient artefacts. The discovery and eventual unsealing of Tutankhamun’s tomb endures as one of the most widely known archaeological discoveries ever made.

On this day in AD 76, Roman Emperor Hadrian was born.

Hadrian had a love for all things Greek and was the first emperor to be depicted with a beard. He strengthened the Roman Empire through architecture, building Hadrian's Wall and rebuilding the Pantheon. He visited almost every province of the empire during his peaceful twenty-year reign.

Emperor Hadrian is one of the many iconic figures featured in our Famous Faces Collection. The bust pictured here is hand-crafted in high quality English plaster at our workshop in Bath.
