Did you know that today is the 48th anniversary of The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 aka The Judgement of Paris?! This amazing event put California wines on the map and 1973 vintage of this gorgeous wine took the crown for red wines!

Saint K’s winemaker Chris Kiranbay doesn’t do anything by the book.

The 2021 Saint K Yōkai Chardonnay comes from Yellow Foxtrot II Vineyard in Santa Barbara County, it spends 10 Months in 40% New French Oak.

“Rich aromas of browned butter, butterscotch and sea salt are pleasantly creamy and engaging on the nose of this bottling, which also shows floral hints of plumeria and jasmine. Meet The Establishment Brewing Co.’s Part-Time Model New Zealand Pilsner; this refreshed take is for people in the mood for a nose full of winey (but never whiney!) gooseberry, lime, lychee and crushed apple. The Paul Hobbs Crossbarn is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon coming from select vineyards across Napa Valley, plus 12% Merlot & 7% Cabernet Franc. New Gin Alert!!!

Motoring star James May (aka Captain Slow), once presenter of the BBC television show, Top Gear, and now co-host of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, has now turned his hand to distilling craft gin with the brand James Gin.

First up, the American Mustard:

Don’t be fooled by its name; this gin has won multiple awards for its warmth & savoury profile. We’ve combined mustard seeds & gherkins to create something really spectacular. American Mustard (or ‘Ramstud’ in America because the authorities were worried you’d put it on your burger) is blended from fresh mustard seed and dill pickles as the perfect accompaniment to every traditional American fast food recipe.

Next, the London Drizzle:

Since most gins are designated ‘London Dry’ - and London generally isn’t, James came up with the idea of making one that evoked ‘the smell of rain on a hot pavement in Regent’s Park.’ That distinctive scent that hangs in the air, just as those first drops of rain hit the ground on a summer day, is called ‘petrichor’. One of the key components of petrichor is also present in beetroot - so they’ve combined that with lovage, bay, orange, and ginger to create a gin designed to instantly invoke the majesty of the Sceptered Isle.

The history, from the elixir to the liqueur:
A liqueur made with 130 plants, this number being the only known element of a recipe that retains all its mystery, Chartreuse has carried its fame very far : that of the Chartreuse Order which developed and perfected the recipe in its different versions but , also, that of a mountain range from which the emblematic and refined drink has borrowed its name. The Chartreuse liqueur has long been able to open up to the world, almost fitting into the register of popular “culture” in many places around the world. But, as originally and outside the period when the expelled Carthusians (Chartreuse monks) were outside France, it is in the Chartreuse mountain range that its production takes place. Very close to the Monastery of the Grande Chartreuse where the only two people who know “the” secret formula reside.
