Erika started her winemaking career in the Kleine Zalze and Graham Beck cellar, working on their still wine range. Fast forward to 2019: she’s named Newcomer of the Year by the Platter Guide, with two debut wines achieving their highest rating. It wasn’t just a big night—it set the tone for what came next. Three years later, she earned a spot in the Cape Winemakers Guild.

This week, we tasted her wines - the Groenekloof Sauvignon Blanc, the Old Vine Chenin from Agter Paarl, the Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch, and a Coastal Rhône blend. Every one of them hit 4.5 or 5 stars, but what really stood out was their texture. Erika’s fingerprint is all over them. These wines don’t try too hard; they’re confident, honest, and full of character. Kind of like Erika herself.

Spotlight: Trizanne Sondagskloof White

An interesting one. A little bit of skin contact, a little bit of barrel fermentation and out pops this brilliant, vibrant Sauvignon Blanc. Underlying minerality, crisp freshness and just a solid, solid wine. Great stuff.

We have a new release on our shelves at The Vineyard Connection!

Craig and Anne Wessels farm some of Hemel-en-Aarde’s oldest Chardonnay and Cabernet vineyards with Restless River. This year’s release proves, once again, they’ve nailed the balance between freshness and depth in their wines. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s top quality.

An unexpected double tasting yesterday with a visit from the Legend Kevin Arnold, with his first release of The Family Syrah, probably one of the best Syrahs we have tasted; and Clarise with her delicious Il Geco wines. Quite an accolade to be told by Kevin that it was the best Sangiovese outside of Italy that he had tasted!
