Caol Ila 12yo 43%, R995 (save R155)

Originally launched in 2002, the 12yo is the entry point into the Caol Ila core range (and sadly the only expression from the distillery available in SA). Although not as pronounced as its fellow peated neighbours, it is still unmistakably a classic Islay malt. Predominantly matured in ex-bourbon casks.

Expect citrus fruitiness, elegant smoke with a spicy warmth and lingering smoky finish.

Ardnahoe 5yo Inaugural Release 50%, R1,590

The new Ardnahoe distillery on Islay, located on the northeast coast between Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain, was built in 2018 by independent bottlers and blenders Hunter Laing.

This inaugural, limited-edition release was matured for 5 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Non-chillfiltered and naturally coloured.

The distillery has a capacity of 1M litres/year, with 90% of its whisky production peated to 40ppm, and it is the only Islay distillery to use wormtub condensers. Since becoming operational, Ardnahoe has been the 9th active distillery on the island, but now, since Port Ellen has reopened, it is one of 10, with more currently being built.

While in 4th and 5th are two reliable daily favourites which founds their way back on to our shelves with new stock being available.

Blanton's Single Barrel WB 46.5%, R1,395

An official Blanton's Single Barrel bourbon produced at the famed Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky, and selected by our team. Only 216 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46.5%.

One of the most sought after bourbons in the world, Blanton's is generally aged between 6 to 8 years, in Warehouse H at Buffalo Trace. Warehouse H is the only metal-clad warehouse at the distillery, which transfers heat quicker than brick warehouses allowing for greater temperature fluctations which results in more wood interaction.

Expect a deep, rich and complex dram, with butterscotch, floral lavender and an earthiness, followed by vanilla, honey and a touch of pistachio nuts.

Being lovers of all good whisky, including the American whiskey variants, we are excited to announce our latest bourbon exclusives! The American whiskey selection in SA is rather limited, and the previous three releases we did in 2020 and 2021 were very well received and didn't last long at all.

Produced at the Barton 1792 Distillery, the oldest fully-operating distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, which along with the Buffalo Trace distillery is owned by the drinks company Sazerac. These two Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskeys were both distilled in 2014 and bottled late last year, making them 9 years old. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at a higher strength.

Tomatin 2012 Single Cask 57.8%, R2,390

Introducing our next single cask release, selected by and bottled exclusively for WB. This is our 3rd release for the year, 2nd from the Tomatin distillery in the Highlands, and our 85th whisky release in total!

The whisky is the final release in our 10th Anniversary picks - although due to shipping delays it is a few months late. Offering something very unique with a full maturation in a red wine cask; but fear not, the wine influence has not overpowered the richness of the Tomatin spirit and the whisky offers a wonderful balance.

Distilled 20 April 2012, matured for 11 years in a Cabernet Sauvignon red wine cask and bottled 25 September 2023. Only 265 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at cask strength.

Maclean's Nose Blended Scotch 46%, R690

After a string of recent awards, we've had a lot of enquiries for this wonderful blended Scotch whisky. Now available again, while stocks last (and we really don't have very much of it!).

Maclean's Nose is a small batch, blended whisky from the team at Ardnamurchan and Adelphi. The release pays homage to their long-established partnership with esteemed whisky writer and industry veteran Charles Maclean and the landmark near the distillery that shares his name. Blended to have a stereotypical west coast character with a high malt content (70%) and a good proportion of ex-sherry casks. The label uses crushed barley paper made from a by-product of whisky production. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%.

Expect citrus, sea salt, beach bonfire and lime marmalade with white chocolate, vanilla and smoked praline.

Kingsbarns Combo Pack 46%, R2,160 (save R240)

From the historic Kingdom of Fife, on the east coast of Scotland, we have fairly new arrivals to South African shelves with the Kingsbarns combo pack. The Lowland distillery was built in 2014 near the famous St. Andrews golf course, where an 18th century derelict farmstead was restored into a modern distillery.

Kingsbarns Balcomie is named after Balcomie Castle and produced using locally grown Fife barley and matured exclusively in ex-Oloroso American oak sherry butts.

Kingsbarns Doocot is named after the distillery's 200-year-old traditional nesting shelter used, which would have been used to keep messaging doves/pigeons. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon (90%) and STR ex-Portuguese red wine casks (10%).

Both are non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%.

Glenlossie 13yo Berry Bros. 51.4%, R1,890

Our next single cask release, selected by our team and bottled exclusively for us, is now available! This is our 3rd release with independent bottler Berry Bros. & Rudd - a British wine and spirits merchant that dates back over 300 years to 1698.

This single cask is from the Glenlossie distillery in Speyside, established in 1876. The distillery is one of the many Scotch distilleries belonging to drinks giant Diageo. Primarily used in blends, it is rarely found as a single malt release. This marks not only the first time we've had an exclusive release from this distillery but also the first time it's even been available on our shelves! Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at cask strength.

Expect spiced custart, fresh apples, lime zest, vanilla pods with waves of shortbread, wood spice, fresh fruit, and a soft lingering spice on the finish.

Our Malt of the Month for February is Glenmorangie 12yo Palo Cortado. Buy this Highland single malt Scotch on special offer during the month and save, while stocks last.

Glenmorangie's 12yo Palo Cortado finish is the third release in the 'Barrel Select Release' Series of small-batch single malts. Matured for 8 years in ex-bourbon casks, and then finished in Palo Cortado sherry casks for the remaining 4 years. Palo Cortado is a rare variety of sherry, created by chance when the protective ‘flor’ yeast does not form on sherry intended to become Amontillado.

Expect toffee, fudge and vanilla sweetness with mulled wine, followed by honeyed ginger and milk-chocolate truffle dusted with cinnamon.

Four Roses Single Barrel 50%, R1290

Under the leadership of Master Distiller Jim Rutledge, the Four Roses Single Barrel was launched in the U.S. and Europe in 2004. Although a standard release in certain markets, this is generally not available in SA, with limited stock being available one or twice a year only. Produced from a mashbill of 60% corn, 35% rye and 5% malted barley, and matured for between 7 and 9 years.

Expect a full-bodied but balanced bourbon with dried spice, pear, maple syrup, and hints of ripe plum and cherries.

Aberlour 18yo Double Sherry Finish 43%, R2,200

Originally introduced in 2008, Aberlour 18yo was relaunched as the 18yo Double Sherry Cask Finish in 2022. This small-batch single malt was matured in ex-bourbon American and European oak casks and finished in a combination of first-fill Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry butts. (The bottle is now also a 750ml, and not the previous 500ml!)

Expect a full-bodied and rich whisky with chocolate raisins, liquorice, apricot and grated nutmeg.

The latest limited-release from the Ardnamurchan Distillery on the west coast of Scotland. Composed of 58% unpeated and 42% peated spirit.
