JONGINENGE’S TOWNSHIP SURF PROJECT: “QUBHA AMAZA” – RIDE THE WAVES!
Sasol Chiselhurst has had the pleasure of being involved with this amazing initiative! Jonginenge is teaching kids from Nompumelelo Township to surf for free.
Learning water skills is sure to open some doors in their futures. There is a glaring contrast between Nompumelelo and the neighbouring affluent suburb. Township life can be tough at times and we feel that teaching these kids to surf will have a positive impact on their lives.
Transferable ocean knowledge and skills may also create opportunities for work as a professional lifeguard or surf instructor. The surfing way of life will also open learner surfer’s eyes to the sustainable eco-tourism potential inherent to surfing and surf travel.
Learning to surf allows kids to develop their confidence and courage, challenge their skills and develop a sense of belonging without falling into negative life choices. The beach is a beautiful place to visit and the kids get really excited when we catch a first glimpse of the ocean!
The Qubha Amaza initiative is completely self funded and if you would like to get in touch or involved to help them carry on their great work you can get in touch with them below:
