WeatherPrufe Coatings is paint and coatings manufacturing business, started by Don McWilliam and Mark Giddey in 2005. Retailing as WeatherPrufe Paints – the company specializes in developing high quality decorative and light industrial paint systems to customer requirements. Mark Giddey has worked for 31 years in the coatings industry in the Western Cape, 16 of which were in the capacity of Chief
Chemist at Neutron Paints. Mark left his position as a Technical Director of Neutron, and sold his shares to invest in WeatherPrufe. He is a holder of a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and Higher Diploma in Chemistry, as well as other related industry qualifications. Mark is a well-respected paint chemist and continues to find solutions for the many coatings problems encountered by our customers. Don McWilliam has worked in the South African coatings industry for 32 years. He has been involved with many of the local and international chemical manufacturers, assisting with product development and marketing to paint manufacturers. He resigned his directorship and sold his shares in Servochem Cape (Pty) Ltd to invest in the development of new paint technologies at WeatherPrufe. We believe that the synergy resulting from this formulating experience provided by Mark, together with the intimate raw material knowledge provided by Don, has been key to the success of the range of coatings produced by WeatherPrufe. By producing a range of products that can be confidently used in the industry, we can devote our time to assisting end users in the form of training and giving on-site advice, rather than continually addressing problems caused by marginally performing products. WeatherPrufe works closely with a number of Developers and Contractors to ensure that the correct specifications are written, and the final application of the product is of a high standard. Most of our exterior products are formulated on adhesion promoted pure acrylic binders and are flexible and highly durable. High solids levels ensure thick film protection and longer coating life. We have also developed a number of speciality products that have no equal in the South African paint market. All of the products we specify will meet and better the SABS requirements of the specific product category. We have 13 products approved by Thales for use in wine cellars, dairies and the fruit industry, and an Agrément approved paint system for mass housing. We have recently opened a modern retail outlet in Tableview with extremely fast tinting times, and a full range of accessories for the contracting and DIY industries.
