A time when artists evolved from skilled craftspeople to eccentric geniuses, whose creativity was a lifestyle displayed in the way they lived and looked. Birthed from the Romantic Movement in France, these earth children were compared to gypsies that lived in an area of Eastern Europe, called Bohemia. Thus the Bohemians were born. One hundred years later, the Bohemians adapted to what was known as
the Aesthetic movement. They rebelled against rigid social constraints and embraced a style based on their bohemian ancestors. Sanianitos is a representation of that ‘Boho’ sub-culture. By no means alone but by all means individual, our Bohemians adapt to any ‘fashion culture’ and can be channelled into any style space. Though fashion often embraces Bohemians, the life itself, the yearning for individual freedom, the rejection of modern materialistic concepts, the dream of Utopian Ideals and production of hand crafted goods, remains a powerful alternative to mainstream culture. In Trinidad and Tobago we have been considered the Multicultural Island of the Caribbean. Our Bohemians appreciate that diversity and believe it is something to be constantly celebrated and expressed in Life, with others, and with self. We embody that by adorning ourselves like the Goddesses we are, being free and fun-loving like the Earth Children we are, travelling as much as we can and opening our minds to cultures, as the Gypsies that we are, and appreciating and sharing our Life-Richness in the best way we can; elegantly and fun, with passion and charm, as glamorously as our ancestors of the Romantic Movement.
