This ’07 Bollinger La Grande Annee Rosé magnum was incredible! Amazing freshness, structure, acidity and “pop” with a long, lingering, almost creamy finish. Every glass leaves you wanting more!

A chef friend was cooking mackerel, a delicacy if done right. He needed wine with powerful acid structure. It could only be the ‘14, ‘17, or ‘20 vintage. I picked this Niellon Chassagne that delivered.

Later that night, we needed more weight for the pasta course. We pulled this ‘14 Leflaive Batard. It’s a steamroller - a heavy weight champion because it’s light on its feet. There are few other massive Chards that have this much precision and acid structure. One for the books, but I’m saving the next bottle for 3 years from now. Needs time, but was the right time this weekend! - Dave Sokolin

Over the weekend, we were very fortunate to have a legendary 2000 Bordeaux tasting between Lafite and La Mission Haut Brion, both 100 point legends. We were blown away when we first tasted the 2000 vintage when they were first released. Last night further solidified our feelings on how spectacular these wines are today. After a short decant, they were on firing on all cylinders. As the night went on, the wines got better and better. Both bottles exceeded our expectations at every level, and the finishes were 90+ seconds. If you don’t have 2000 Bordeaux in your collection, you better jump on them before they hit the pricing stratosphere!

Last Thursday our team had another incredible dinner at Bobby Van’s in Bridgehampton, NY. “Vans” has been the go-to spot for Sokolin team dinners for decades. You won’t find a better pairing than back-vintage Cali Cabernet and the Porterhouse for two!

Louis Latour is an old school legend and one of the top producers of Corton Charlemagne. Scoring 98 points, 2019 is the highest scoring vintage ever for this wine!

Last night’s dinner at the world-famous American Hotel in Sag Harbor, NY was a delight, especially paired with these two exquisite wines: the elegant 2010 Domaine de Chevalier and the vibrant 2018 M. Chapoutier Crozes Hermitage Les Varonnieres. 🍷✨

Ornellaia has always been a huge Sokolin staff favorite and we were thrilled when we got another chance to taste the 2006 over the weekend paired with an amazing homemade eggplant parm, compliments of our friend
This bottle was singing and it’s hard not to give it a perfect 100 score right now even though there is plenty of life left ahead of it!

At Sokolin, we LOVE back-vintage Cali cabs and it doesn’t get much better than a 20-year old bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve! We had the opportunity to taste this elegant and youthful 2004 last night and it did not disappoint. The nose is full of dark fruits, to***co and some cocoa with a beautiful, delicious long finish. We were pleasantly surprised to find that this bottle was still a bit big as it benefited from some time to breathe and really open up. The 2004 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a winner and if you have access to well stored bottles it should show well for at least another 10-15 years. Cheers! 🍷
