Barrel 25190 was an easy choice of the many barrel samples we tasted, this one had the most complexity and layers of flavors. This barrel is in a great spot of its evolution. It posses no youthful ethanol notes and does not come across as overly oaky. There is a wonderful balance of fruit, spice and oak that don't compete with each other but come in waves , Defiantly more spice than herbal notes with a delicate sweetness. The overall harmony and intensity make this one delicious glass of whiskey.

This is our second barrel from the distillery. First one was favorite among rye fans. This one provides same bold Kentucky rye whiskey flavors. 🔥
An Immediate sweetness pops from the glass suggesting cherry hard candy and a touch of maple. On the palate it almost reminds me of a high rye bourbon with notes of sticky caramel and raw honey backed up with classic Kentucky rye flavors of Fresh herbs, gloves, and white peppercorns. A wonderful viscosity coats the palate leaving lasting flavors charred oak, citrus oils, and dark toffee. Bold flavors will stand up beautifully in a top shelf old fashioned or sip straight up to unlock all the complex flavors. Amazing quality for the price.

Tasting Notes

The palate is dense and intense with subtle wood smoke, butterscotch candy and charred oak. It finishes with long lasting flavors pipe to***co, floral notes and caramel apples. While there is some warmth from the 120 proof, this whiskey has flavor intensity to match it. A must have for any American whiskey lover.

This is our third barrel from them and had opportunity to do it in person at Louisville KY. We were presented with 3 barrels with different finish times which were hand selected by assistant distiller. (3 to 8 months barrel finish)

TASTING NOTES:
A gorgeous reddish hue has developed nicely from extended aging in port barrels. The nose does not disappoint with wonderful aromas of red licorice, candied cherries, and homemade apple pie. On the palate there is a great harmony between red fruits, honey roasted almonds, and spicy oak. The finish comes in waves and seemingly last forever. The higher ABV gives great balance to the rich port notes . So easy to enjoy for the bourbon newcomer yet complex enough the most discerning connoisseur. Some Angels Envy casks are simply bigger versions of the distillery expression, this barrel is exceptional and has the extra dimensions to keep the taster longing for another sip.

LJ team did quick trip back in March this year to Preservation distillery to pick first barrel for Massachusetts from their highly sought after stock. We were presented almost 30 samples from their different offerings for single barrel pick.
This barrel stood out the most for its well made Willet purple top funk.
A rich deep bronze color, with just a quick nose you can tell this is a big whiskey. Toasted hazelnuts, crème Brule and fresh flowers waft about on the nose. The palate is intense and dense with powerful flavors of toasted oak, fresh spring flowers, and warm honey. The high proof in the whiskey is almost invisible due to the intense concentration of flavors. After 8 long years of aging in Kentucky this bourbon is in a perfect place maturity. It's bold, complex, balanced without a hint of oaky tiredness.

Quick trip to Kentucky resulted in a 10 year double oaked Hirsch barrel. (last 2 years in char 1 new american oak barrel) only 22 barrels will be released of this nationwide. (Willet Bourbon OG mashbill 🔥
The nose reminded me of high age MGP- lot of brown sugar/bakery and palate/finish had perfect willet purple top funk.
arrival should be in fall of 2024. more details will follow as we get near to the fall.

Nose: Dynamic orange zest and barrel funk leads the way. It's zippy and fun with graham cracker, to***co, and cinnamon-laded barbecue sauce notes throughout. There's a distinct nutmeg note that builds well late. It's distinctly woodsy with sweet nuance throughout. The empty glass smells of soft Andes crème de menthe thins and cigar box.
Palate: Wow, this immediately coats every surface of the mouth with that sweet Cavendish & Harvey hard orange candy. It melts into a bit of a creme savers vibe before transitioning into those higher octaves of lemon and grapefruit. What a juicy sip—a small one will do! At last taste this whiskey just sings. It's like Jack Daniel's barrel proof rye and a Willett purple top wheatear had a baby. Delicious. The finish goes on in excitable waves of lemon and baking spice, like softly bouncing over the waves in a speeding boat.
