Been saving this beauty for 21 years to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. Do to scheduling we waited a few months. Finally opened this. The wine was well stored in temp controlled wine fridge. Cork broke. This can happen with an older wine where the cork (or in this case the upper section of the cork) can get dry. Pushed it in and decanted.

The result was a wonderful, perfectly aged and an balanced wine that was glorious. This is the difference between a top growth Bordeaux and an inexpensive late vintage wine. Nothing wrong with a $10 wine…I drink them daily…but the nuanced flavors and amazing mouthfeel differentiate an aged wine from the everyday drinker. Definitely a special occasion wine. And to note, these type of wines don’t have to cost hundreds of dollars. You can age and enjoy wines like these for well under $100’s

So while this is somewhat humorous and brilliant on the part of the shop owner, the fact that they have to do this in order to protect themselves sickens me as both a retail store owner as as a consumer.

Some local stores here have everyday items locked up simply because shoplifters have often been given a pass, and have started moving into the suburbs.

Our local WP police are great, but their hands are often tied when it comes to actually charging some crimes. They aren’t even allowed to chase criminals who drive off.

Everyone deserves a safe shopping experience without the fear that we will be robbed blind because there are few consequences.
