Lenora’s Restaurants Catfish Lafitte

This Tuesday my good friend Brian and I ate dinner at Lenora’s Restaurant on the square in Oxford, Ms. Lenora’s is owned by Mike Portera of Greenville, Ms. Mike was in pharmaceutical sales before deciding to follow his life dream of owning a restaurant. The atmosphere is very elegant, yet relaxing and inviting. The food at Lenoras is truly unique as I have never tasted anything with quite the same flavors. All the food is inspired by his mother who is of Italian decent. The menu has a very strong Mississippi vibe to all of its dishes. Growing up in the delta of Mississippi Mike was constantly acquiring inspiration for the restaurant he would one day own. You can taste southern soul in everything from the homemade bread to the phenomenal bread pudding if you have room after your entree. The presentation of the food was photo worthy. Every dish that I would watch go by on a servers tray looked like a five star presentation, which is surprising that the cuisine can be so fine yet feel home cooked by a good southern woman. The waitress recommended that I pair my meal with a glass of the house Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was a great selection and really complimented the entree.

Although there are many fine options on the menu at Lenora’s I went with the Catfish Lafitte after talking it over with Mike. I was very pleased with my decision as soon as I tasted the first bite. The fish was cooked to perfection with an awesome shrimp and Tasso ham sauce to top it off. The fished is served over a black eyed pea succotash that reminds you of something that your grandmother would make in her kitchen. The braised collard greens were my least favorite part of the meal, as I should have gone with the asparagus Brian got. The aroma of the meal made me feel as if I were in the French Quarter in New Orleans. The seasoning was perfect on the fish, simple but made the flavor of the fish stand out.

I left this meal glad that I ventured away from my usual steak and potatoes. I feel like I was eating a piece of southern culture. The atmosphere was outstanding, and the service was southern hospitality at its finest. I would recommend this dish to anyone that is a fan of fresh Mississippi raised catfish. The artwork at Lenora’s also added to the experience for me. The entire front wall is a mural that Mike had commissioned for his his wife on their 20th wedding anniversary. It features inspiration from the delta of Mississippi and other southern cultural staples like cotton fields. Overall the atmosphere and the food combined make for a wonderful evening on the square in Oxford, Ms.

“Southern Lights”
St. Martin Parish, Louisiana

Aurora colors fill the sky above a pair of live oaks and distant sugar cane fields.

I’ve wanted to see an aurora for a long time, but I honestly can say that I didn’t think I’d see the “northern lights” in South Louisiana, and especially not in May. Aren’t these things supposed to be reserved for Canada and winter months? LOL!

With my daughter in tow, I drove out to one of the darkest country roads I know of that has limited obstructions facing north. We got out of the truck and walked around, letting our eyes adjust. We stared and stared at the sky asking each other if we were seeing anything. To our naked eyes, it appeared like something might be slightly different in the sky, but we weren’t confident. We assumed it was just our minds wanting to see something or it was just light pollution. However, what our eyes couldn’t be sure of, my camera could. Once I pointed the camera to the sky and used a long exposure to let in more light, the pinkish colors appeared. So cool! I hope you like it!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT CATS 🐈 🐱 ♥️ ️
"Most people think that cats do nothing, are lazy and do nothing but eat and sleep ...
It is not so!
Do you know what a cat's mission is?
All cats have the power, every day, to remove the negative energy accumulated in our body ... as soon as we fall asleep, they absorb that energy. If there is more than one person in the family, and only one cat, it can accumulate an excessive amount of negativity by absorbing energy from so many people ... When they sleep, the cat's body releases the negativity it takes away from us.
If we are too stressed, they may not have enough time to release all that negative energy, and so, as a result, it accumulates as fat, until they can release it.
So, they get fat and you think it was the food you were feeding them ... or because they don't move enough ... and the truth is, they don't.
It is nice to have more than one cat in the house, so that the weight is divided between them.
They also protect us during the night, so that no unwanted spirits enter our house or our room while we sleep ... That's why they like to sleep in our bed.
And if they think we're fine, they won't sleep with us.
If there was something strange around us, they jump into our bed and protect us ...
If a person comes to our house, and the cats feel that that person is there to harm us or that he is bad, the cats surround us to "protect" us ...
If you don't have cats, and a stray cat comes into your house and adopts it as a home, it's because you need a cat at that particular time ... So the stray cat volunteered to help you.
Thank the cat for choosing your home for that job.
If you have other cats and can't keep the stray cat, find a place for him.
The cat came for a reason unknown to us on a physical level, and in dreams you can see the reason for the appearance of the cat at that moment.
There may be a debt, some karma he has to pay ... "So don't freak out or frighten the cat."
Well, "he" will have to come back, one way or another, to fulfill this obligation ...
Cats heal us
Cats are adorable creatures, and they love their owners above all else, but they have a different way of loving ...
Their love is true, so don't doubt it.They are our great and true friends and above all good companions.
