Let's highlight one of our favorite women in wine... Anne Pichon.

Anne Pichon and her late husband, Marc Pichon, started an agrarian-bohemian life together in the 1990’s when they moved into an abandoned farm house at the base of Mont Ventoux. The began to resurrect the a defunct domaine called Murmurium, meaning “the buzzing song of bees.” And while the 15 hectare vineyard was in poor shape, the site was properly organic for many years leading up to Anne and Marc’s stewardship. Today, Anne produces no more than 40 barrels of wine along with her sister-in-law Véronique who manages the commercial affairs. The wines themselves are named “Sauvage” inspired by the Pichons’ respect for and attachment to nature.

Employing careful vineyard management, low yields and late harvesting, Pichon hand-harvests and destems all of the fruit.

Anne Pichon Sauvage Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Grenache Noir is a powerful mature grenache with spiciness, wild ‘garrigue’ & cooked red fruits- an exquisite long finish... so much wine for 20 bucks.

We are so blessed to have received a few cases of very limited naturally produced in Barbaresco, Italy... they won't last long.

"With our special knack for finding new winemakers who have converted their lives from one of bo***ge to Mammon, God of Money, to that of servitude to Bacchus, God of Wine, we've run smack-dab against one of the craziest, funny, "uh-oh" and provocative winemakers we've ever met.

His name is Fabio Gea and he is making delicious wines from small parcels in Barbaresco. 

The whole enterprise is a few lines of Nebbiolo inside and outside of the Barbaresco designation, as well as small patches of Dolcetto and Barbera- in total 0.9 hectare from family land and some additional plots he's been able to rent. All vineyard work is done by hand, with minimal treatments of only copper and sulfur. In the cellar, apart from experiments in "toilet" (Gea has crafted his own porcelain amphoras, certainly a first as far as we are concerned), he uses older barrels of 440 liters and 500 liters, glass and stainless steel. The total production is around 5000 bottles a year of 18 different wines. Some wines are traditional, others definitely outside-the-box."
