"Ensamble

Espadín
The Espadín agave, known as the genetic Mother of the Blue Weber Agave, is used to produce tequila, and is also the predominant agave used in mezcal production. Unique in itself, the characteristics of this agave showcase the aromas of wet earth, a rich smokiness on the mid-palate, and a finish reminiscent of wild flowers.

Mexicano
The Mexicano agave thrives in the moist environment of lower elevations. This wild agave can grow quite large and is usually harvested when close to ten years of age. The concentration of sugar in the fully mature agave produces an extremely powerful mezcal. The palate is distinctively herbaceous and earthy with a long lasting finish in the mouth.

Barril
This thick-foliaged, wild agave, often used as fencing to divide land in Oaxaca, intensifies the complexity of this mezcal. As citrus and floral notes arise, hints of green peppers compliment the nose. The palate is a delightful balance of citrus and creamy banana.

Madrecuishe

Madrecuishe is part of the Karwinskii family of agaves. It thrives in dry climates and typically grows in a tall, cylindrical shape. Due to the agave’s dense core and low water content, mezcal made from Madrecuishe typically has high minerality with vegetal and floral notes."

The original tax stamps that sealed bourbon bottles were part of a federal system used by the U.S. government to regulate and ensure the authenticity of distilled spirits, including bourbon. Known as “strip stamps,” these tax stamps were introduced following the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 and were in use until the early 1980s. Their purpose was to confirm that the spirit inside met specific standards and that the appropriate federal excise taxes had been paid.

Design and Placement: The tax stamps were long, narrow strips of paper that typically ran across the cap or cork, sealing the bottle. The stamp was torn upon opening, making it impossible to tamper with or reuse without obvious signs. The presence of an intact tax stamp signaled that the bottle had not been opened or altered after leaving the distillery.

Color Coding: The tax stamps often used different colors to indicate the type or proof of the spirit. For example, green was common for bourbon, while other colors might be used for different kinds of whiskey. This color coding also made it easier for inspectors to recognize compliance at a glance.

Detailed Information: Each stamp included specific details, such as a serial number, distillery information, and sometimes the bottling date. This level of detail allowed government agents to trace the bottle back to the distillery and verify its production in compliance with government standards.

Tax and Regulation Purpose: Since distilled spirits like bourbon were subject to federal excise taxes, the stamps provided a way to confirm that these taxes had been paid. The stamps were an important part of federal control over alcohol production and distribution, especially during Prohibition and post-Prohibition eras, helping to combat bootlegging and counterfeit spirits.

To celebrate the release of Gladiator 2, director Ridley Scott is launching two limited-edition wines, Caracalla and Geta, named after the Roman emperors featured in the upcoming film. The wines, part of Mas des Infermières’ Imperatores Collection, bear Scott’s exclusive label designs depicting the two historic brothers and will be available from November 4 at Selfridges stores and online.

For collectors, a premium magnum edition of Imperatores will include a signed commemorative card and a prop Roman coin from the movie.

Caracalla, the red wine, named after the emperor played by Fred Hechinger, is a Syrah-Grenache blend. With aromas of ripe black fruits and spices, the wine boasts a rich, silky finish and balanced tannins, said to capture the complexity and boldness of its namesake.

Meanwhile, Geta, the white wine, named for the character portrayed by Joseph Quinn, is a blend of Rolle, Clairette, and Roussanne grapes. Fresh and floral, it offers notes of white fruits and citrus with a hint of almond, making it a lively yet refined choice.“ - .ws
