! Today we have a picture of the "Number Two" municipal liquor store at the Point! This was the first municipal liquor store in Warroad, named such as it was the phone number for the establishment. It's first year of operation was 1942 where they had a reported profit of $10,824. Warroad had voted in 1940 to approve a liquor store in town. This was back when Roseau County was dry and prohibited the sale of alcohol. There was a legal loophole that allowed it to happen. The land the building was on was originally part of the lake, which is of Lake of the Woods County, and LOW County allowed the sale of alcohol. The government dredge had deposited some of the material from dredging the harbor at the Point. This establishment was in operation from 1942-1972 and in 1976 the building was hauled to Edgar Nelson's farm to be used as a barn.
