THANKSGIVING EDITION! Elegant, Refined Red Burgundy.

A wonderful example of Cote de Beaune and showing the grace and elegance of premiere cru level wines, this wine is aromatic with notes of redcurrant, plum and cherry, enhanced with hints of white pepper and kirsch. Nervy, fleshy and generous, it has a highly elegant, silky texture with concentration of rose and cherry flavors, and a dusting of integrated tannins that make it food friendly and give it some aging structure.

While the concentration, elegance and refinement are sure to make oenophiles happy, its pure notes of rose, cherry and violets are sure to make it enjoyable for others as well over the dinner table.

It’s rare to have young 1er cru wines showing so well at this price point (hint, they’re usually a bit more expensive), which makes this a good value to boot.

Dion’s on River Street Supports Toys for Tots this Holiday Season

Since 1947, Toys for Tots has brought holiday joy to millions of children, thanks to the initiative of Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendrix and his wife, Diane. Now in its 76th year, this cherished program continues to brighten lives nationwide by delivering gifts to children in need.

Dion’s on River Street in Waltham is thrilled to be an official drop-off location for the 2024 Toys for Tots program. Here’s how you can join us in spreading holiday cheer:
• Collection Dates: Beginning Monday, November 18th, we invite you to drop off your toy donations. The final day for donations is December 11th, when the Toys for Tots coordinator will collect the gifts.
• Special Event: On Saturday, November 30th, from 3–6 pm, Dion’s will host a “Bring a Toy for a Taste” wine tasting. This event is our way of saying thank you to our generous community—bring a toy and enjoy a taste of our selection!

Donation Guidelines
• Preparation: Please ensure all toy donations are new and unwrapped.
• Supported Ages: Toys for Tots primarily serves children up to age 12.

Important Note: Please avoid realistic-looking weapons and gifts containing food, as Toys for Tots cannot distribute these items.

Crazy value for highly rated Chianti Classico Riserva!

Castello di Radda is a storied estate located in the heart of Chianti Classico, an area renowned for its centuries-old winemaking traditions. The winery is nestled in the rolling hills of Radda in Chianti, a medieval village that has been at the center of Tuscan viticulture for generations.

The estate covers 45 hectares of vineyards, all cultivated organically, a practice that began in 2015 and culminated in full organic certification in 2020.

The organic Castello di Radda estate is located in Radda, a village that is home to some of the highest sites in Chianti Classico.

Today’s featured wine is their Chianti Classico Riserva, made with 100% Sangiovese. After fermentation the grapeskins are left in the wine for three weeks, ensuring extract and tannin structure for ageing. The wine is then matured in 20% in new French oak tonneaux and for 80% in second passage tonneaux and Slavonian oak barrels for about twenty months.

The result is a wine that’s structured, with firm but beautifully integrated tannins and acidity, with deep flavors of rose, violet, cedar and black cherry. A wine that’s truly super high quality for this price is really tough to find these days - I’d grab a couple of bottles before the vintage is sold out!

Join us this weekend as we explore the wines of Drouhin and Drappier

We’ll be feature a number of Burgundy wines by Domaine Joseph Drouhin along with wines made from the Drouhin family’s 235 acre estate in the Dundee Hills of Oregon.

Founded in 1880, Domaine Joseph Drouhin has evolved and grown over the years to become one of the largest and most diverse estates in Burgundy. Known for their philosophy of respect for terroir, the House of Joseph Drouhin practices organic and biodynamic viticulture techniques using horse drawn plowing, natural composting and allowing grass to grow freely between the vines.

Additionally, we’ll have Drappier’s Pinot Noir based Brut Champagne open, one of our staff favorites at the store. Here’s the full lineup:

In 1968, Tenuta San Guido made the first ever Super Tuscan red wine known famously as Sassicaia. Today it’s highly prized and you’re lucky if you can get it for under $250/bottle.

I’m happy to tell you that we can experience the high quality of San Guido’s wines and taste the wines of their highly prized vineyards at a much lower price, by tasting the estate’s Guidalberto - their wine that’s meant to be drunk younger than Sassicaia.

Guidalberto is nothing short of spectacular. It has a similar pedigree from vineyard to bottle. The grapes are intentionally picked a bit early to preserve freshness, allowing for youthful approachability. An amazing 2022 vintage has closed the gap considerably between the winery’s “Guilalberto” and “Sassicaia” wines.

San Guido’s blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, which are 40% new, 40% second use and 20% third and fourth use. The result is a wine that’s rich in aromas of fragrant purple flowers, dark-skinned berries and crushed mint. The elegantly structured palate doles out succulent blackberry, orange zest, licorice and saline notes set against taut, refined tannins. Then there is that long finish that lasts and lasts.

🍷There’s a reason Sauvignon is so popular; whether it’s a mineral Sancerre, a fruit driven New Zealand example, or a richer, more tropical example from California, there’s something inviting about the immediacy of fruit flavors, the invigorating sense of refreshment, and the sheer ability of the wine to play with various foods.

Today we’re offering an example that’s a real step up from every-day examples, but that still hits all the familar notes. OTQ is made by Jules Taylor, who was named New Zealand’s Winemaker of the Year in 2021. We were lucky enough to host her at our shop a few weeks ago, and really glad she introduced us to this small production wine.

OTQ stands for “on the quiet”, a reference to the fact that she was making these single vineyard wines away from the limelight and the focus on the higher production wines she’s famous for.
