🎉🎂We turned 6 over the weekend, and we’re filled with gratitude as we reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared with all of you. These past six years have been made so special because of the amazing community that has supported and loved us from day one. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank each and every one of you for making The Bodega feel like home. We couldn’t have made it this far without your support, and we are so excited to celebrate this milestone with you over the next 6 weeks! 🥳 Stay tuned for more!

HEART CHAT TIME: I would like to think if you've come to know us for anything in this little beloved community of ours it's for a couple things:

#1 Good Coffee: I dare you to find me some coffee beans that smell or taste this good somewhere else. I do want to try them. I travel and try out LOTS of coffee shops near and far and I ALWAYS miss our coffee. So much of that is due to our roaster and their diligent work to find the best beans in all the best regions and care for the farmers that produce them. They then use their expertise in roasting and the mad scientist process that goes on behind the scenes to make it smell and taste that good once it hits our cup.

When we began, we searched for a roaster that we could be proud to partner with that lined up with our heart to be good to people from farm to cup and we could not be more grateful.

Fun Sidenote: I also started out needing lots of cream and sugar in my cup, and now love a good cup of black coffee where you can taste the notes. Who even am I? You don't want to miss it and cover it up when it's that good. ;)

We got a fresh load of beans in today from the roaster - they're as good as they get right now ... if you'd like to order some to pick-up or be shipped to your home I will share the link so you don't miss that goodness.

Do you know how awesome it would be for a small business to sell out of all the 1 lb bags of beans and know they're filling your cups with joy and yum while they're helping us too? Very fun, that's what that would be. We've never sold out in a day before, but that could be a really sweet mission for this day!

Which leads me to the next piece of what I hope our identity has become here.

#2 Good Work: Our heart for this space began with a deep desire to be a third space that wasn't home, wasn't work, but was a safe place to grab a chair and enjoy a moment knowing that you'd find kindness and goodness extended to you across that counter. Where you could find people 6 days a week who knew you and cared about what was going on in your world. We often repeat to one another what has become one of our core value statements around here - "to serve the best cup of coffee in the shortest amount of time possible with as much love as we can pass across the counter." That's our heart. Was. Is. Always will be.

Let's be honest, it's been rough out there. Loss of jobs. Fear. Unsettled. So much. If I can be really honest and give you a peek behind the curtain, it's been rough in here too. Hurting hearts. Tired peeps. Broken stories. Health problems. Discouragement present.

Both in the chairs beyond our counter and also behind it.

And so I've taken a bit to be sad about those things, feel my own feels, be mad sometimes, admit discouragement when I need to ... and then remember - The ONLY way through is together. To be good and kind and find other people doing the same.

That's how we press on and find our way. Always.

To remember that we do all belong to each other and that when we care for one of us we care for all of us. It really is often that simple. It gets complicated and convoluted and buried under hard ... but the golden rule still does prevail.

So you'll find us both reminded and reminding inside these walls. Everyone has a seat at the table, we will still be trying to pass cups across counters with love and goodness, we will still catch tears when we need to, pass out hugs when they're necessary, jump up and down when you're celebrating, and all the rest of what sharing life together offers.

Sometimes "good work" means big things...big projects, big mission, just big. There will be times when that's true for us too.

But more often than not I am learning - the world changes, lives change in the mundane moments in tiny towns and places all over this world where people show up to be good to each other and find hope and healing in that process. The Bodega has certainly been that for so many of us. If these walls could talk and share all the stories they've held.

It's what inspired a coffee shop here in the first place in so many ways. It's still what continues to fuel us to show up.

So, just in case you're in a season where you're needing a space where someone sees you, knows your name, and cares about your story, here's your reminder...We do. There are pay-it-forward sleeves on the wall for you to snag a coffee that someone else has left for you, already paid, so don't let that be a barrier.

I just wanted to remind you of some things you might already know - but just in case you've forgotten...we serve coffee so we can love people...and we'll be here tonight until 7pm and fling those doors back open in the morning at 7:30am.

Let's keep drinking good coffee and doing good work together and showing up for each other. We will - if you will. Let's be kindness and goodness together in a world where that stands out.
