It’s time to say goodbye to our home on Alberta... but it could be time for you to say hello! Our restaurant space is now for sale and has literally everything you need to get cooking right away: a bright & cheery dining room during the day, cozy & intimate at night, with two different sets of furniture/lighting and a complete point-of-sale system; a fully equipped spacious kitchen loaded with equipment in excellent condition; tons of food storage, utensils, supplies, shelving, racks; located on a corner anchoring the east end of the arts/retail district; excellent neighbors including , and a new multi-restaurant development in the works; awesome landlord. For us, getting into this space a few years ago was a dream come true and though it’s hard to say goodbye, we’re excited about what the next owners can create in the space! Interested? Serious inquiries to info @ kargigogo.com.

Heading into our FINAL DAY of service. Thanks to all of you placed orders for pickup. We’re pretty much sold out but will have a few orders of khinkali and khachapuri up for grabs between 5-8 tonight if you don’t mind waiting a little bit! Thank you for an amazing week! We still have a few slots open for online, call-in or walk-in orders this weekend, but they are filling up very quickly. Ordering online is strongly encouraged for hot food and Take & Bake, but you can always drop in anytime for wine and packaged foods. Want frozen khinkali? Keep your eyes on our website this weekend around 7 AM to reserve the very last bags we’ll make (pickup next weekend).

** ORDERING TIPS! **
Thank you so much for the HUGE number of orders the last couple of days! With wait times of 2 hours or more as a possibility, here are some tips to help you out:

1. To ensure that we can take care of you, please ORDER ONLINE if possible.
2. There is only so much food we can make at one time, that’s why there are time slots when you order online. If your preferred day/time isn’t available, that means we are already maxed out during that slot.
3. Online orders have priority over phone-ins or walk-ins. Phone/in-person orders will be inserted into the queue at the next available slot, which may be at the end of the night or in some cases not possible.
4. Please make sure you know which items are frozen/take-and-bake and which are hot.
5. We can’t convert Delivery orders to Pickup or vice versa.
6. Be nice! :) We are all working as hard as we can to take care of you and we appreciate your patience!

Gamarjoba friends,

It is true that the only constant is change. While this year has been difficult (for all of us!), it has also given me an opportunity to pause and reflect upon the restaurant, my family and priorities. With a baby at home, a few more gray hairs and a lot more experience, I’ve discovered that those priorities have changed since we opened.

Anyone in this industry will tell you that running a restaurant is more than a job — it’s a lifestyle. It has become increasingly clear to me that the demands of this lifestyle and the goals for my life in a broader sense have less and less in common.

As a result, I believe it is time for another change: Kargi Gogo is closing. Our last day will be Sunday, November 22nd.

Even though the restaurant is closing, my love for Georgia remains strong. I will continue to make Georgian wine available to you online in the Portland area and beyond. (Much more about this later.) I am also keeping my fingers crossed that we will be able to resume our Georgia tours in 2021, and of course I can’t wait for my family to get back there as soon as we safely can.

When McKinze and I were randomly sent to Georgia 10 years ago for Peace Corps service, there is no way we could have predicted the impact it would have on our lives. It has been a privilege to share just a tiny bit of the food, wine and culture that we fell in love with. We’ve been so blessed and fortunate and are forever grateful to those who have supported us throughout the years.

There will be time for more thank-yous and goodbyes. But for now, let’s have some fun! We have three weeks left and we’re firing up the ovens, mixers and pots of boiling water to make as much khachapuri and khinkali as we possibly can. We’ll also be stocking up on frozen khinkali, take & bake khachapuri, jars of adjika and bottles of wine to get you through the winter. So stop by one more time (or two more, or three more…) to enjoy some of the Georgian hospitality we all love (socially-distant and takeout, of course)!

To you, to the future, to peace and to love -
GAUMARJOS!

Sean

Feeling particularly nostalgic this last week: exactly a year ago I was in Georgia with Forktown Food Tours for our first Discover Georgia tour. Such a magical time with the best people. Was supposed to be there now but 🤷🏻‍♂️. Tomorrow night (Wednesday): Civic Winery & Wines invited me to talk about my experiences in Georgia and Kargi Gogo at a free Zoom meetup they’re hosting. Sign up at https://www.civicwinery.com/shop/35, pour yourself a glass of wine and let’s talk. Looking forward to it! -Sean

A picture taken exactly one year ago, getting ready to open for a shoulder-to-shoulder, line-out-the-door night of Georgian hospitality. A lot has changed since then but the food is still tasty, the wine is still some of the best in the world and we’re still here to welcome you. ❤️🇬🇪 Come see us this weekend, 5 to 8 PM, and enjoy a taste of Georgia at an outdoor table or in your own home. We appreciate your support. kargigogo.com
