This week on the journey of discovery that is Grauls Wine & Spirits' new item caravan, we stay on the Iberian peninsula for a stop-off at the landmark Rioja bodega of Carlos Serres in Haro. All fruit from this property is hand-picked and de-stemmed to focus the flavor of the grapes.

This 2018 Reserva is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano, aged for 24 months in oak and a further 12 months in barrel for depth and complexity.

The wine shows a cherry red color with thin terracotta edge showing its longer barrel age. Aromas of mature black fruit, toffee and balsamic as well as some mineral notes. This is a silky wine, but fresh and refreshing as well as elegant and persistent.

Great with hearty stews, grilled meats, and strongly-flavored cheeses.

Grauls Wine & Spirits' new item odyssey stays in Europe this week with a quick trip out to the Iberian Peninsula to explore the wines of Portugal.

From the lesser known Alentejo (from the Portuguese "beyond the Tagus {Tejo} River) region, Montaria Reserva is a Syrah-based blend of 3 grape varieties - dark ruby red in color, with berry aromas and dark chocolate on the palate. Aged for 7 months in French oak adds to the structure of the wine and will benefit from a bit of breathing or decanting before service.

Additionally, with each case sold, the wholesaler will make a donation to BARCS to support their mission.

Grauls Wine & Spirits' world tour continues with a mad dash across the world to the Côte Challonais in Bourgogne (leave yourself enough time for the connection from the TGV at Dijon - we didn't and paid for it dearly).

In the little commune of Mellecey, 6th generation winemaker Romain Pillot operates an estate of a few hectares and with the help of his son, produces fine, elegant and deliciously fruity wines.

Adorned with a brilliant ruby ​​color, his 2022 Bourgogne reveals intense notes of small red fruits topped with a typical touch of liquorice. The fruit bursts forth in a gourmet mouth where the tannins are revealed with finesse, a pure pleasure to taste!

Grauls Wine & Spirits' new item odyssey has hit the road again for the new year!

This week, we pay a visit to the central coast of California and the ultra-trendy AVA of Paso Robles.

One of Paso's oldest (50+ years!) wineries, J. Lohr brings us this wonderful Petite Sirah from their Estrella District vineyards.

Tower Road Petite Sirah abounds with aromas of dark cherries, plums, chocolate, and cooking spices. It's full-bodied, creamy and ripe with a deep core of fruit and velvety tannins.
