for March is here!

Where would we be without the Widow Clicquot?

Ever wonder how much of the wine you love exists because a woman refused to take “no” for an answer? This month’s wine club celebrates International Women’s Month as we raise a glass to the mothers, sisters, wives, rebels, and pioneers whose fingerprints are all over some of the world’s most remarkable wines — including right here in this month’s wine club. We’re featuring three wines crafted by women who aren’t just making wine — they’re making history. Join us in celebrating with every sip.

This we have a wine that is a bit lighter in color and body but Morgon doesn’t miss any of the intensity in flavor. All organically farmed, hand harvested, semi-carbonically macerated, and then clarified in aged barrels, the wine is both light and rich with cherry, violets, raspberry and licorice. (P.S. - We have a magnum left if you really love it!)

Join us for a delightful afternoon with Matteo Furlani, the talented owner and winemaker from Povo, Italy! Experience the unique tastes of his Cantina Furlani and Mae Son wines, crafted with care using organic and biodynamic methods. Don't miss this chance to taste these wines and learn from the expert himself!

These wines, crafted from hand-harvested grapes, reflect the passionate dedication of its' maker. Each grape is de-stemmed by hand, allowing for the full expression of the fruit. The use of indigenous yeast in fermentation and aging in stainless steel tanks and old barrels create a distinctive profile that showcases the terroir of the region.

With no fining, filtering, or added SO2, this wine embodies purity and authenticity, a true testament to the land from which it originates.

for February is here!

California is a place we hold dear, rich with the people we love and, undeniably, overflowing with wine that speaks to our souls. As we embark on our first trip to Sonoma County as a family of three, we feel compelled to honor and share the deep history of this remarkable region.

We’ve chosen three classic and historic California wines as our storytellers, each one capturing the essence of how wine came to flourish here, paving the way for our country’s esteemed place on the global wine stage.

Today, California’s wine industry is a powerhouse, influencing the US economy and the global wine narrative. Ranking fourth in wine production worldwide, it trails only France, Italy, and Spain. California wines are now sold in more than 60 countries around the world, and growing —a testament to the industry’s vitality (and to my stepmom, Honore, and her work as VP of International Marketing for California Wine!). Wine tourism flourishes too, with over 23 million visitors exploring the Golden State’s wine regions. Napa and Sonoma alone welcomed more than 4 million visitors this past year.

The industry directly employs about 250,000 individuals and generates an additional 116,000 jobs in supporting roles. In total, it creates and sustains an incredible 514,000 jobs. Yes, this includes me and many of my family members and friends.

So, let’s raise our glasses to California—a beautiful land steeped in rich history and an ever-evolving, influential wine industry that invites us to explore its depths and delights.

“…we look timidly forward, with a spark of hope, to where the new lands, already weary of producing gold, begin to green with vineyards.  A nice point in human history falls to be decided by Californian wines.”
-      Robert Louis Stevenson, on his honeymoon in Napa Valley, 1880.

Cheers,
P. & E. Mullins

This time around we’re having a with the ‘Ni Dois’ Russian Imperial Stout from in Brazil. Japas is a brewery formed by three third-generation Japanese-Brazilian women, with the intent of breaking stereotypes about gender in brewing, while embracing their roots. Their Ni Dois (the Japanese and Portuguese words for “two”) is the second in a series of beers exploring the fusion of Japanese and Brazilian cultures. Brewed using Japanese Ponkan tangerines and Brazilian Cerrado vanilla, this stout is full bodied and rich with hints of coffee, molasses, chocolate, dark malt, and a lift from sweet, zesty tangerine.

For this we are pouring Saint-Jean from Terrasses du Larzac in the Languedoc. Winemaking couple Béatrice and Sébastien Fillon thoughtfully cultivate their vineyards by parcel all organically and by hand. From 50-year-old vines of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, and Cinsault. These grapes thrive in a Mediterranean climate, nestled in terroir of schistes, sandstones, and pebbles. Each varietal is vinified separately and aged in concrete. Only 835 cases were produced. Expect delightful notes of black pepper, red currants, raspberries, and violets, making every sip soft and luscious with tons of crisp red fruit! Perfect for the a cozy weekend inside watching football. 🏈 🍷 ❄️

Maybe this time we should call it a Bright Red Weekend, because Le Beaujolais is a beautiful, bright, jewel-toned red packed with intense flavors. All organically farmed, hand harvested, and whole-cluster macerated and fermented. Bright raspberry, cherry, violets and earth practically leap out of the glass!

This we’re pouring the Lèmme Lèmme from in Tuscany. The name means “very slowly,” and that’s a very accurate description for the production of this rich Sangiovese blend. The vines are all 80 - 100 years old, and grow wrapped around the trees surrounding winemaker Gabriele Buondonno’s home on the estate. After harvest, the fruit (along with some stems) is vinified in two old-fashioned 400L open-topped clay jars. Another 12 - 18 months of aging in clay jars follows, resulting in a full, rich palate with black fruit and olive tapenade. Only 1000 bottles are produced.

for January is here!

The start of a New Year is unlike any other season—there is this pressure of resolutions…what will I change? Should there be a do-over, a fresh start? Yet, whatever the resolve, time continues, and we rediscover the fact that many things aren’t possible to control, alter, or change.

For me, it’s a moment to pause to take a fresh look and gain new perspective, count my blessings, elevate and amplify what is good, and, most importantly, surround myself with the people I love.

Something about January, its quietness, its chill, that can at times feels isolating, and, yet, at the same time, contemplative. It’s a time to reflect about the most meaningful relationships in my life—the people with whom I have the privilege of working with, and of course, my family who fill my home and life with love and light.

Our selections this month are each inspired by relationships that matter, couples working together, partnering with the land, and caring about the details because of each of these bottles are not a product, but a gift that comes from the heart.

Cheers,
P. & E. Mullins

It’s a Holiday Weekend, so we’re opening a special treat - the Torre alle Tolfe Canaiolo from Tuscany. Traditionally, a little bit of Canaiolo is used to balance Sangiovese’s tannins and acidity in Chianti, but having it as a monovarietal showcases its approachability. Torre alle Tolfe is a certifed organic farm and winery, so their vineyards are surrounded by grain fields, olive groves, and vegetable and herb gardens. After hand harvesting, the grapes are vinified and aged in cement vats. The wine is bright and juicy, with raspberry and blackberry notes, plus a touch of leather and fennel blossom. Only 1800 bottles are made!

For this , we have the Madelyn Red Wine Cuvee from Napa Valley; a celebration of “the everyday things that make our lives full and content.” The 2020 harvest was very low yield, so this wine is almost entirely Cabernet Sauvignon (95%!), with splashes o Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc to fine tune the natural richness of the Napa fruit. Plush and velvety with black fruit, spices, cedar, and vanilla. Named for Michael Trujillo’s daughter, Sophia Madelyn.

On these cold weekends we’ve decided to open up a and share it with you!
For our first we will be featuring
Pinotage! Beeslaar was founded when winemaker and long-time Pinotage lover, Abrie Beeslaar had a chance to produce a site-specific wine from the old bushvine Pinotage grown at a unique plot near the Simonsberg mountain. The cool mountain winds inhibit the growth of the bushvines, which in turn produce smaller bunches of smaller berries, with higher concentrations of color and flavor. At the same time, longer growing seasons allow a pronounced complexity to develop. Beeslaar captures the powerful expression of these grapes through fermentation in an open-topped concrete container, followed by 20 months aging in carefully selected barres. The results are rich and earthy, with heady incense, spices, and tart cherry and plum.
