The St. Louis Bourbon Society is proud to host our city’s very own Colonel Steve Akley, a Kentucky Colonel since 2016 and lifelong St. Louis native as a presenter for this year’s St. Louis Bourbon Festival!

In addition to writing, Steve is a co-host on the popular podcasts The Bourbon Show and The Bourbon Daily as well as the publisher of the email magazine Bourbon Zeppelin. He created the ABV network and recently co-created St Louis own ABV Barrel Shop with Fasnacht.

The St. Louis Bourbon Society is beyond excited to add former St Louis Blues defensemen and current Missouri District Manager for Heaven Hill Distillery to this year‘s St. Louis Bourbon Festival presenter lineup!

Hess was drafted in the second round, 26th overall, by the St. Louis Blues in the 1974 NHL amateur draft. He appeared in 329 NHL games scoring 27 goals and 95 assists for 122 points. Bob went to the playoffs 3 times with the St Louis Blues 1974-1977. He is a member of the St. Louis Blues Alumni Association and knows his bourbon.

The St. Louis Bourbon Society is proud to welcome David Whitmer as a presenter for this year‘s St. Louis Bourbon Festival! With a background spanning nearly 30+ years in the food and beverage industries, David performs an important, multi-faceted role at MGP. Serving as VP, Corporate Director of Quality, and Alcohol R&D and Innovation, he is a walking encyclopedia of scientific, technical and regulatory information regarding ingredient and finished product innovations. David is also the Master Blender for MGP And certainly knows how to talk shop when it comes to bourbon and rye whiskey. David may be a VP, but he spends more time on the floor than he does behind a desk. We are super excited to have him join us that this year‘s festival. The St. Louis Bourbon Society is proud to host Penelope Bourbon's Michael Paladini and Danny Polise as presenters for this year’s St. Louis Bourbon Festival! Penelope is a company that was crafted in the classic entrepreneurial tradition. Mike and his wife, Kerry teamed up with his close friend and childhood next door neighbor, Danny to create something truly special. Both grew up in Basking Ridge, NJ. where they began to embark on creating a bourbon that everyone could enjoy and love.

Both found out in 2018 that their wives were expecting. Mike and Kerry always knew that if they had a girl, her name would be Penelope. The day they found out they were having girl, a light bulb went off. Mike and Kerry decided they wanted to bring together two things they both love so dearly – their soon-to-be baby girl, Penelope and Straight Bourbon Whiskey. A company was born.

The St. Louis Bourbon Society is proud to host Michael Veach as a presenter for this year’s St. Louis Bourbon Festival! Michael was inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame in 2006. He’s written and contributed to five books and is the foremost authority on bourbon history. In addition to this he is the former Filson Historical Society Bourbon Historian and has provided bourbon history education in many different forms over the years. The St. Louis Bourbon Society is proud to host Greg Metze as a presenter for this year’s St. Louis Bourbon Festival! Greg became Old Elk Distillery's Master Distiller following a 38-year career at MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, one of the world's largest distilleries. He is considered one of the spirits industry’s premier master distillers and has had a hand in crafting many of the whiskies on the shelf today. Greg’s connection to Old Elk traces back to the distillery’s inception when he was brought on board to create the signature mash bill for Old Elk Blended Straight Bourbon Whiskey that would bring to life the vision of Old Elk Distillery in Fort Collins Colorado.
