Firefly Outfitters LLC

Firefly Outfitters LLC Small but brilliant! An interesting selection of world wines-- not your typical grocery store lineup. Firefly is small but brilliant!

We "outshine" the other Door County wine purveyors with over 1000 wines mainly from Italy, France and Spain. If you are tired of the mass-produced, overly extracted wines that have become the trend nowadays, shop with us! We have carefully selected wines with good structure and balance, made by smaller producers who care about their wine and their reputations as wine makers. It's not our official

motto, but we frequently say "no critter wines." Most of our wines are in the $15 to $30 range. We also carry a sizeable selection of sparkling wines from around the world, including grower champagnes from France. Our beer and liquor sections are small, but unusual. In addition to libations, we stock a variety of camping/outdoors/emergency supplies, such as freeze-dried meals, solar rechargeable lights, personal water filters and more. Handmade soaps and body products made by Jennifer Dahl, along with a few folk art pieces and antiques are also available for sale.

It has been a fast and busy summer! Here are some new and back-in-stock items:

Wines: as always, too many new items to write about, but here are serious wines with fun labels: J. Mourat's Chenin du Jardin and Rouquin de Jardin. Organic Pinot Noir and Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, and easy on the wallet. (Rouquin means Redhead, btw.)

Liquor: We now carry Tip Top Cocktails in single serving cans, in several flavors. They are well-made cocktails and you will need ice, because they are boozy.

New art: lots to see, including some very wild and whimsical wood serving trays made in Sweden (designed in France) --sure to be conversation starters at your next party (or a truly unusual wedding gift.) For fiber artists, we have beautiful stitch marker Advent Calendars (only 2 available) and an assortment of other stitch markers and sliding tins to keep them in, plus various new cross stitch and embroidery kits, many of them humorous. Lots of new, artistic greeting cards as well.

Soaps: I finally started making soap again after about a two year break and have a handful of different scents/styles on hand, plus many pretty 3D molded goat milk soaps available in many shapes. (I will be teaching an introduction to soap making class this December across the street at NWTC, so watch for that if you're interested--it will be a small group.)

Back in stock: My almost famous Tomato Umami Jam-- for your charcuterie board or the ultimate BLT or gourmet grilled cheese. I made four batches this year, using Roma tomatoes from Sully's (since my own tomatoes are taking their sweet time this year.) Rhubarb Rosemary and some other interesting jam flavors are available as well.

Newly added to our Conserva Corner: Alaskan wild caught Sockeye and Coho salmon; stuffed squid in ink sauce; Galician razor clams in brine; Galician mussels wit garlic & chili; Smoked Rainbow Trout with lemon and cracked pepper, and more. If you like seafood, you you can keep them in your pantry for a last-minute meal, easy snack, or for when the power's out--just pop open and serve with crackers or bread.

Long Potato Chips in three flavors. These look great on a charcuterie board. Long rectangles with a Pringle-like texture (and since they ship in little trays, they tend to not be busted up into chip dust.)

Smoked Olives, Smoked Tapenade and Smoked Artichoke Hearts. Something a little different!

Lastly, you know that corner by the Greenwood? I had my own Door County stickers and tea towels made up. If you know, you know. (I already had the sticker stolen off my car once, lol.)

Cheers!

Winter... the quiet time. We're cooking at home more since our restaurant options have shrunk considerably. On the plus side, we have lots to play with, thanks to new arrivals!

-Interesting and hard to find Chili Peppers. Calabrian chili flakes, Urfa Biber and Marash chili peppers from Turkey (both with interesting chocolate/raisin/coffee notes,) Gochugaru for making Kimchi, and bright Kashmiri Chili powder.

-Exotic spice mixes-- Berbere, Biryani, Shawarma, Thai Red Curry, Elote, all-puropose Greek Seasoning.

-Sausage mixes-- one for DIY brats and one for breakfast sausage.

-Hazy IPA Seasoning-- for veg, pork and chicken. Something really different and fun, IMO!

-Dip mixes-- French Onion and Chili Queso. (People will want your "recipe.")

-Honeybush Tea--similar to Roiboos but a bit sweeter.

-Tamarind powder.. so many uses in various world cuisines.

-Timut Peppercorn-- similar to Sichuan Peppercorn, this rare spice comes from Nepal.

-Gumbo File--Powdered sassafras and thyme, used in Cajun and Creole cuisine.

-Butterfly Pea Flowers...they make a beautiful blue infusion and add a subtle floral taste and aroma to teas, cocktails and such. Add an acid like lemon juice and the color changes!

-Flavored turbinado sugars. For ri***ng a cocktail, sweetening tea, or decorating baked goods. Black Lime Sugar, perfect for a Margarita (limes grown and dried on a family farm in Guatemala.) Dragonfruit Sugar is lovely atop lemon bars, or makes a striking pink drink rimmer. Marigold Sugar and Lavender Sugar are delish in tea or on cookies. And why not put Magic Unicorn Sugar, bri***ng with flavors of lemon, blueberry and raspberry atop a cupcake and make someone's day?

Cheers!
