This Sat. Dec. 14 come to the shops for our regular free Saturday tasting, this time, selections of Champagne André Clouet.

We’ve been in love with Clouet sparklers ever since we first tried them and we’re excited to be able to finally feature them for a Saturday tasting. These are scrumptious, Pinot Noir-based champagnes that you won’t want to miss out on!

Winemaker Jean-François Clouet was born and raised in Bouzy and still lives in the 18th century village house built by his ancestors. His family was the official printer to Louis XV’s Royal Court at Versailles. Jean-Francois is well-aware of the influence his family has contributed to the grand and tumultuous history of the region.

Acknowledging the privilege and significance of his standing, Jean-François strives to continually improve upon the estate and wines by drawing from its past as well as implementing changes that ultimately improve the quality of his wines. The Domaine’s 20 acres of Grand Cru vineyards are situated in the coveted middle slopes of Ambonnay and Bouzy.

This is what happens when you make wine and run a small business with your spouse.
This Sat. Dec. 7, meet Olga and Barnaby Tuttle of Teutonic Wine Company in Portland, and taste their latest releases, for free.

Winemaking techniques from the Alsace region are their template, Barnaby says, and the Willamette Valley is the canvas.

What you will taste in the glass is the expression of the vineyard where the grapes are grown, so this is a great opportunity to set your palate to the amazing wine region just a couple hours south.

Olga and Barnaby will be at the the Ravenna store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Queen Anne store from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30.

This Sat. Nov. 30, come taste wine from local, boutique winery, Piolet.

The winery was founded Andy Ferguson and Alex Stewart, who met when they were both winemakers at Quilceda Creek. When they're not making wines, they love mountaineering. In fact “piolet” is French for ice axe.

Their combined experience and passion is evident in their wines and Piolet focuses on limited production bottlings that are an incredible value and pleasure to enjoy.

Andy and Alex will be at the shops Saturday presenting their wines- Andy will be at the Ravenna store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Alex will be at the Queen Anne store from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30.

This Sat. Nov. 2 come meet winemaker Anne-Charlotte Mélia-Bachas and taste the Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhônes she makes with her husband Laurent Bachas at their winery, Château Font du Loup, in the Rhone Valley of France.

Font du Loup translates to ‘fountain of the wolves’, and is named after the natural springs in the area where the wolves would come to drink. The Château has been in the Melia family since 1942.

Font du Loup has roughly 20 hectares (organically farmed – although not certified), including holdings in the La Crau vineyards, and is planted on mostly sandy soil with vines that reach 100 years old. It is located in one of the coolest appellation places with slow ripening of the grapes.

Anne-Charlotte, who goes by the nickname Anch, will be pouring her wines and sharing stories at the Ravenna shop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Queen Anne from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This Sat. Oct. 5, come taste wine from a Willamette Valley, OR pioneer, for free.

Hyland Estates was established in 1971, the year Walt Disney World opened and All In The Family debuted on TV. Untouched, unmoved and self-rooted, Hyland’s gnarly 51-year-old vines remain entrenched in red volcanic Jory soil.

Owner and winemaker Laurent Montalieu takes "land not hand" approach. He believes for a vineyard to truly speak, it must be left wild and untamed. Hyland vines produce a textually mature, high-concentrated juice that come with decades of establishing oneself firmly into the land.

Jessica Endsworth, chief Hyland educator, will be present several wines. She'll be at the Ravenna store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Queen Anne store from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30.

We hope you can join us!

Come to the shops this Sat. Sept. 28 to learn about Barolo and other Piedmont wines, with a free tasting of latest releases from the G.D. Vajra Winery.

It's a family operation. Their wine offer soulful and honest expressions of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera, primarily, along with small quantities of Albarossa, Freisa, and Pinot Noir.

The Vajra's winemaking philosophy is simple - they are not modern, they are not traditional. They practice sustainable farming and craft sensitive, transparent wines of place by patiently allowing the fruit to dictate its own evolution.

We'll be pouring Vajra's latest releases at both shops between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

We hope you can join us!

This boy grew up to be a winemaker. Come meet him Sat. Sept. 21 and taste his family's wines.
Anton is part of the third generation of two families who came together to form Carpineto Winery, which make some of Tuscany's greatest wines.

He was born in San Francisco and, at age 4, returned to his family's estate in the Montepulciano countryside. Now, still young, at 26, he's following in his father's footsteps to introduce the world to Carpineto wines.

Anton will be at the Ravenna shop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Queen Anne from 2:30 p.m. to 5.

Come by, say hello and taste his wines!

Bonus: In addition to the main label, Anton will share two of the winery’s offerings from their Dogajolo label – which are blends of Italian and international varietals.

See you soon.

French + Italian = Vallée d’Aosta

This Sat. Sept. 10, come taste wines from Grosjean winery from vineyards tucked up in the high alpine mountain valleys beneath Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn on the French-Italian border. The area is extremely isolated, and French is more predominantly spoken than Italian in the region.

The Grosjean family specializes in a number of interesting native varietals, some of which may seem like “out of left field varietals,” but you’ll be a believer after one whiff!

Come taste and learn at the Ravenna and Queen Anne shops!
