It’s officially 2025! ✨ As the holiday season winds down, many people are trading in their festive to-do lists for New Year’s resolutions. We’re sharing helpful tips to guide you toward smarter, more nutritious eating as you kick off the New Year. 💚
🌴 Enjoy Whole Foods — There is no need to limit choices when it comes to the wide array of fresh whole foods available! From fresh and dried fruits and vegetables to lean meats and proteins, nuts and seeds and whole grains, there are plenty of whole foods to enjoy when focused on a nutritionally-centric lifestyle.
🌼 Pretty Presentation — Ever heard the phrase “We eat with our eyes first?” It’s true! Think of how much emphasis fine dining restaurants place on the artful plating before they serve every dish. Eating should be enjoyable — and when it looks good, it tastes good! So consider that when making a dish — whether it’s a quick breakfast, a pre-made lunch on the go or a formal dinner.
🌈 Eat the Rainbow — So with that presentation in mind, why not make the plate colorful too? Having a goal to “eat the rainbow” also ensures that nutritional-minded people load their plates with a variety of healthy foods. Think red peppers, oranges, yellow bananas, green spinach, blueberries, purple carrots or potatoes… the list goes on. When filling the grocery basket, consider the colors!
🥕 Pass on the Packaged Foods — Frozen or pre-packaged meals and canned foods can sometimes be secretly loaded with unwanted ingredients and preservatives to keep them fresh for long periods of time. So when faced with a choice, choose fresh!
🙅♀️ Ditch the Drive-Thru — Fast-food joints typically don’t have nutrition in mind when slinging triple burgers and fries out the window. While these options can be sometimes be a good choice when on the hurry, they should be a very occasional part of a nutritional lifestyle. Save the drive through for “emergencies only” or as a once-in-awhile splurge. And when opting for quick-pick up, why not choose an independently owned place instead of a large chain to give the local business a little love?
🛒 Skip the Supermarket — Speaking of large chains… instead of shopping at a large supermarket, try hitting up a local farmers market for freshly harvested fruits and vegetables and locally produced foods. Or look into a local farm that offers fresh food boxes for delivery or pick-up.
Eating with nutrition in mind shouldn’t mean deprivation or starvation! It’s about focusing on the healthier options, and limiting those less than healthy ones for special occasions. 💛
