Edited: the landlord is now threatening to pursue legal action for this post. So I will rephrase what I think may have come across as confusing/misleading or otherwise leading you to think they are malicious.
First, it was my intention to let you know that I did not sell the business. So many of you asked, and we told you no. So I wanted to make sure you did not think we lied about that. We were not offered a lease renewal because I missed the deadline to send them the intention to excercise the option to renew. They want me to clarify that as well I think.
Second, the property was rezoned to restrict the sale of liquor. The sale of liquor was grandfathered in, it is my understanding that the contingency was that liquor can still be sold as long as it's with the sale of the existing license. I'm getting my info straight on that (I have to dig around for the literature on this). Regardless, I was told that city planning will deny their business license application due to zoning restrictions.

Hi Neighbors! If you're living within a 500ft radius of 1111 MacArthur Blvd. Please reply to the ABC letter you should be receiving in the mail soon. You can protest this. The license was grandfathered with the ability to sell liquor with very strict contingencies. The location is no longer zoned to allow a liquor store. The new tenant did not purchase the license from me. This is a new license they are trying to transfer. Also, the new tenants seem to be the landlords family. Please stand up for us. We not only lost the business unexpectedly through a technicality, (the landlord took advantage of a deadline I missed) the landlord is trying to make it look like we sold it to them. We did not. This is not our license being transfered over.
Thank you. We are still looking into moving, so if we let this slip through city hall approval, we may not be able to reopen on MacArthur because there will be too many liquor stores in one area.
