Barbaresco & Barolo
March 15 - This Saturday, we’ll be pouring three Barbaresco alongside three Barolo. The Barbaresco and Barolo regions are the top regions in Piemonte producing the top Nebbiolo wines in the world. While Nebbiolo, the grape used to make both Barbaresco & Barolo, has a history dating back to at least the 13th century, the modern wines as we know them are a relatively recent development. In the 1970s and 1980s, Barolo and Barbaresco producers began to respond to changing tastes and trends, leading to a shift towards a "modern" style with less tannic wines that could be enjoyed sooner. The association of Barolo with royalty, particularly King Carlo Alberto, led to the wine being known as "the wine of kings" and later, "the king of wines".We will also be pouring an optional higher-end Barolo you don’t want to miss.Normal tasting hours are 10:30am to 3:00pm. If the wines have not run out by 3:00pm, they will continue to be poured until 5:15pm.Six Tastes: $25All the wines will be available for purchase until sold out.Bring some food as these wines show better with food.Get ready for Brunello di Montalcino tasting the following week on March 22.#vintagewinesd #vintagewinemiramar #vintagewineltd #vintagewinesandiego #california #winetasting #sandiego #vintagewine
Tuscan
Join us Saturday for a tasting of Super Tuscans. The history of Super Tuscans is, in essence, a story of rebellion that began in Chianti. The wines of Chianti were historically a blend of Sangiovese and other indigenous grapes as required by the DOC. By stepping outside of the DOC regulations, winemakers began experimenting with different grapes and blends in a bid to bring back quality. This, of course, meant their wines could no longer qualify for DOC status and instead had to be labelled Vino Da Tavola. Fortunately, for these rogue winemakers, wine customers came to adore these new Tuscan expressions which tended to be more intense and full-bodied than Chianti DOC. French oak was also being used more to age wines over the use of traditional Slovenian oak. The strong presence of Cabernet Sauvignon was also noted in some of the wines leading to favorable comparisons with Bordeaux. We will be pouring new vintages of some of our favorites as well as a couple of Super Tuscans new to the Vintage Wines lineup. We’ll also be offering the 2016 Mazzei Siepi as an additional offering. The 2016 Mazzei Siepi is a library release from Mazzei available on a limited basis. You don’t want to miss it !
Normal tasting hours are 10:30am to 3:00pm. If the wines have not run out by 3:00pm, they will continue to be poured until 5:15pm.
