THERM is a software that was developed by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to simulate the thermal (insulating) capacities of different materials and wall systems.

It's a fairly simple program that when used well can lead to some far out design iterations.

I used THERM to test how different adobe walls performed depending on their unique geometries. Contrary to what I expected the walls that had more grooves had better insulations capacity than those that were purely solid.

As a reference most adobe buildings use solid walls. However thanks to novel building techniques, new geometries that respond better to specific climatic conditions can now be explored.

In todays environmental analysis post here are some images I generated using Ladybug via Grasshopper of some solar simulation studies I did for my final project () with and .

As I've mentioned previously, environmental analysis programs such as Ladybug are a superpower that allows you to understand how your buildings will perform to distinct climatic conditions at different times of the year before going through all the time intensive trouble of building and testing them in the real world.

Incorporating bioclimatic principles to our built environment has never been easier and enjoyable.

This one's for all you painters out there...

As a lifelong painter, the mainstream acrylic paints used today are just another word for liquid plastic. (Yes there is oil but due to its long drying time, most people end of using acrylic.)

After having my heart broken way too many times every time I washed my acrylic brushes, I decided to take matters into my own hands and invent a new kind of paint.

Introducing the worlds first seaweed based paints. Unlike acrylics that use plastic as a binder, my line of paints use nothing but locally harvested giant kelp as the pigment binder.

In addition, I developed a canvas replacement made also from giant kelp that adds that extra 🖕🏽to the industrial art materials complex.

My momma always said I should be a hand model 🖖🏽... I said nahhh I'll be a dreamer instead.

Back in the day communities around Mexico used to use cactus goo (mucilage) as a vernacular water purifier.

UAs part of a residency i did a couple years back with my good friend .fiahhh for , we looked at how this magical goo could be combined with another local material tezontle (lava rock) to produce a water bio filter even the future would want to adopt.

The last few years have been nothing short of life changing. Been learning many news tools that I will continue sharing here.

One of those tools is Unreal Engine. For those those of you who don't know, Unreal Engine is a platform used to create entire worlds for video games and VR.

I used this software to create the renders for the final project I did in alongside my colleagues and

In this project we created a community center in Tijuana that responded to the local climate conditions and changed form over time while bioremediating the soil with the help of local bacteria.

Used software Houdini to develop a script where I can create forms inspired by sandstone erosion.

Being that sandstone erosion is one of the hallmark features across the Las Californias landscape, my plan is to apply this workflow into the design of houses the literally become one with their surroundings. 🌊🏜️
