THIS SATURDAY, February 15th, you are invited to attend our first-ever "Babyless Baby Shower" at Palisades Church, 6301 Birchwood Street, San Diego 92120 starting at 1 p.m. (This is off Waring Road and Interstate 8 near SDSU.) The baby shower will benefit the Military Outreach Mission of San Diego.

Military parents struggle to make ends meet, and babies have so many needs. While we don't have anyone specifically having a baby, we're hosting a baby shower anyway to help meet the needs of young mothers in the military.

We will have fun games and prizes, and we will hear the Director of the Military Outreach Mission, Barbara Chavez. This program has been helping active duty families meet their needs through donations and food programs. You can donate baby supplies at the shower — and yes, unlike some baby showers, MEN are invited too! Current high needs items are larger-sized diapers (sizes 4 and 5), training pants, and formula.

If you wish to make a monetary donation, you can do so at www.sandiegomom.org/donate.

This event is organized by the Grantville-Allied Gardens Kiwanis Club and the Kiwanis Youth Development and Support Club of San Diego (KYDS). We are not affiliated with the church itself and all Kiwanis events are open to the public.

You are cordially invited to attend our event on February 15th at Palisades Church. We are hosting a baby shower to benefit the Military Outreach Mission of San Diego. Military parents struggle to make ends meet, and babies have so many needs. Please see our attached flier, and feel free to pass it along.

Collectively, the Kiwanis Youth Development and Support of San Diego (KYDS), the Kiwanis Club of Grantville-Allied Gardens, and Palisades Church have worked to put on an event where we will be collecting donations and having a "non-baby baby shower." We will not have a specific baby in mind (or on hand, that we know of), just the military babies in need here in San Diego County. We will have games, prizes, and the director of the Military Outreach Mission, Barbara Chavez. This program has been helping active duty families get needs met through donations and food programs.

Please [RSVP ](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfPDdEcyxyzt1KUskjUtlYa8s4mBo3yHYtchxEtvQErcH7afw/viewform?usp=header)if you would like to come. If you wish to make a monetary donation, you can do so at [https://sandiegomom.org/donate](https://sandiegomom.org/donate).

Current high needs items are larger sized diapers (size 4 and 5), training pants, and formula.

Let us know if you have questions or would like to help. We will be stuffing goodie bags at our next KYDS meeting on February 10th at Emiliano's Mexican Restaurant during our meeting at 6pm. Stop by for some service and a fun run-through of the games!

We are proud of our 55-year member, Gene Elmore, the 8th wonder of the world!

The first paragraph on the first page of Gene Elmore’s memoirs starts out “To my wife, the first to read My Memoirs and the encouragement in all the things I do…” shows how humble this incredible person is. His wife: Wanda Elmore, is also all things wonderful.

Happy 101st Birthday to the eighth wonder of the world, Gene Elmore. Gene is a WWII veteran, a Navy pilot who flew hundreds of missions over Europe (including on D-Day in 1944) and Japan, and post-war humanitarian relief for the Berlin airlift.

He has been a member of our Kiwanis Club since March of 1969 (that's longer than the San Diego Padres have played Major League Baseball) and continues to attend meetings on a regular basis. He was our club President in 1974-85 and Lt. Governor in 1985-86, winning the Kiwanian of the Year Award in 1982-83.

We are lucky to have Gene and his wife, Wanda, still with us and we hope to hang onto them as long as we can. (Newsletter attached is from Gene's 100th birthday last year.)

We remember the long and generous life of Cal Pancheri, who passed away just a few days ago. Cal would have turned 100 next March.

Originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Cal spent 28 years as a member of our club. In 1999, he relocated to the city of Poway, where he spent another 25 years in the Kiwanis Club there. He was well-respected and accomplished in both clubs, even getting his daughter and granddaughter to join the Poway Kiwanis Club as well. He was the patriarch of three generations of service, and a trailblazer for our organization in many ways.

Farewell and thank you, our old friend.
