Today’s cigar is the Nica Rustica Broadleaf by Drew Estate! It is a medium to full strength cigar that is blended to showcase native Nicaraguan to***cos from Esteli and Jalapa. The flavor profile consists of rich tasting notes that includes chocolate, earth, coffee, and spice, all accented with a lingering sweetness on the finish. Aficionados will enjoy this rustic smoke that is robust and deeply satisfying.

The Nica Rustica comes in several sizes, one being EL Brujito. Con Orgullo (with pride) is embedded deep within the people and the culture of Esteli, Nicaragua. Estelianos have embraced the image of “El Brujito” as a sign of pride and display it though-out their city in iron works, graffiti and sculpture. Carved into stone over 6,000 years ago by a flourishing Pre-Columbian civilization, “El Brujito” literally means “Witch Doctor” or to the locals “the Shaman”. Early Shamanic practices included the use of to***co in ceremonial and medicinal rituals.

The Padrón 45 Years Family Reserve is an impressive well balanced, rich cigar that feels firm to the touch yet has an impeccable draw that delivers a full body of flavor. This toro uses 10 year old to***cos and is nicknamed “The Little Hammer”, a reference to Jose Padron’s humble beginnings as a carpenter in Miami after his exile from Cuba. The maduro is rated a 94 with the natural being rated a 95 as a more mellow version.

An online customer all the way from Marlboro, New Jersey smoked the Jaco Napolitano and felt compelled to write a review on Cigar Scanner! Have you tried one of our own? 💨

JACO NAPOLITANO REVIEW by SPS - Tonight I had the pleasure of smoking a cigar blended and sold by The Leaf Affair, the company owned and operated by Macs, our SOTL on this app and her husband Jake Gaitan. This cigar is the Jaco Napolitano part of a private label blended by her husband out of Killeen, Texas. As far as I can tell, after some research, this is the only place where these are available. The website states that “This is the first cigar for the new Jaco Cigar Company, owned by Jake Gaitan.” It is a medium strength Intensity, with a wrapper consisting of Ecuador Connecticut and Mexico San Andres and a Nicaraguan binder and Honduras Copan and Jamastran filler. This a really cool looking cigar with a shaggy foot. The unusual thing about a shaggy foot cigar is that its wrapper does not extend all the way to cover the binder and/or filler of the cigar at the foot. The idea here is that you will be able to taste the flavor of the cigar without the wrapper and once the wrapper is reached, then you’re going to get two distinctive flavor combinations. Then, after the burn reaches the wrapper, the cigar becomes a different experience. The appearance of this was very nice, a bit shiny, some veins but overall a fine wrapper with a coffee and cream color. I don't know if it was just this example but I noticed a very distinct color difference around the end of what would be towards the end of the second third and into the final third. As you can see below I did notice a nice sweetness and flavor difference between the two. Upon first light the initial flavors were strong earthiness, and woody flavor. Once the burn hit the wrapper I got that familiar and very pleasant flavor that most San Andres wrappers give me. As I moved into the second third I was really enjoying this cigar. The burn was great, a bit wavy at times but it corrected itself and needed no assistance from me. The construction was great and the ash solid. The smoke output was creamy and the volume gave me a great mouthfeel transmitting those woody flavor notes. As I entered the solid section of the second third, I picked up something I never have before… a flavor of mustiness. Now, do not get me wrong, it was not a negative thing but I felt I was being transported to the living room of my grandparents house and great memories flooded my mind. Call me crazy but this cigar flavor transcended beyond just cigar flavor and made this an experience well worth repeating. The strength stayed a solid medium and as the mustiness faded, I started to fade, more pepper notes followed but I was never overpowered by pepper. The final third brought on a bit more strength, more medium to full without that ni****ne kick and more predominant pepper notes. I also noticed a slight sweetness coming through. That was great. I smoked it for 1 1/4 hour down to the nub! I’m a very critical reviewer so my only knock was pepper, I am not a big pepper guy. Overall, I rated this a solid 4.0 and I believe with some age that score may indeed increase. This was a $13.00 cigar and I thought well worth it for the experience. I would strongly recommend you take a flyer on this. I bought 4 and I will definitely smoke another in about a month and smoke the rest, 1 each, after each successive month of age. To Macs, great job and it may be worth your while to take these on the road😎👍🏼. I always say that if you can support you local B&M do it. This is no exception since our SOTL is a local shop.”
